I'm an old. I don't know what that means. Is that a Facebook tweet?

With the cost of this and an iPad Pro, why not just get a Macbook Air?
Procreate.

For the first time in my life I’m actually considering an iPad. They have never held my interest in the slightest in the past. I’m really intrigued by this one. I’ve been holding out for the 14 inch MacBook Pro but may just do the iPad/magic keyboard combo instead.

(I like to draw and tried digital drawing for the first time two weeks ago - I’m only 39 but my age is DEF showing lmao 😂)

Funny how they leaked the white magic keyboard in the product video couple of minutes before the guy actually announced it 😃

I have to image that Xcode, Final Cut and Logic Pro are coming at WWDC this year - why else would you give the hardware this spec?

I wonder how they'd do these apps given they have to run on such a small(er) iPad screen using larger, touchable objects.

Procreate on the iPad is amazing. So powerful and so much fun! And the pressure sensitive Pencil is a dream. And there are other terrific drawing/design apps: Concepts, Affinity Designer and more. There's a learning curve, but your experience with physical media will help a lot. (For me, taking Skillshare classes in Procreate and Designer has definitely helped me understand the potential of these apps and has helped get me more comfortable with their user interfaces.)

Add the Magic Keyboard and you have a powerful and portable tool for all kinds of creating.

That’s the final piece for me. I’ve been moving increasingly to iPad Pro as my main device with my iMac on my desk for Final Cut Pro and some of the more advanced Photoshop features that haven’t yet (yet!) come to the iPadOS version.

I started watching this event expecting to finally replace my iMac but I left convinced that I won’t bug another Mac at all. The M1 chip (not a souped up A chip) is a good indicator that we’ll see Apple’s pro apps make it to iPad the same with iPad apps made it to the Mac.

As you said, why have all that power (and Thunderbolt) if it’s not going to run Apple’s own power hungry apps? This iPad Pro was clearly made to run Final Cut, Xcode and Logic. I’m looking forward to WWDC more than ever!

Just wish I wasn't so into photography. RAW file workflow is a PITA on iPad.

I'd be all over the new iPad Pro but it still runs iPadOS. None of my daily driver Pro apps will work on it. Ugh. What's the point in having a "pro" device that can't run any pro apps???
That will change starting with WWDC. M1 + 8/16 GB RAM are in the new iPad Pros now. The Elephant in the Room is becoming bigger than the room...
