By refraining from rabid and obtuse hyperbole of John Gruber caliber. But that’s not nearly as fun now, is it? But that’s until I see hard numbers. Even so, I’m happier with the butterfly keys than the wobbly keys of old, which are downright unusable to me.
I was also happy with my MacBook Air 2018 keyboard for three days until the T key started producing double or triple output. Three days!

Couldn't imagine buying an Apple product without an Apple Store at least somewhat nearby. That's part of the Apple premium imo. :(

Apple's lack of retail stores in certain countries at this point in time is just ridiculous. Poland has a very vibrant software development community and I would think Apple would want to see that grow in their direction. If they are relying on third parties to represent them well, I would submit that perhaps that is not always the case and that they need to pay better attention to those third parties resellers/VARs/repair centers.

The list of Apple Retail Stores just seems very thin to me. Lots of stores in the countries they serve, otherwise users are SOL. Just my 2¢.

This is why I love Apple.
They are always working to put customers first.
You won't get this level of customer care from a Samsung, Dell or HP.
Right, but you won't get such a boneheaded design from them either. You'll get a tried and true design that's been battle tested and will stand up to abuse for years.

Of course it'll be .001mm thicker, if that matters to you.

The only non-techy macOS user I know is my mom.
Everyone else has a job in either software development or graphics intensive use cases so I can‘t relate.

People stopped using macOS for stuff like taking notes or writing stuff here years ago due to cheaper alternatives.
Then either those people are masochists (since Apple “apparently” are not “listening” to what they want), or Apple laptops are actually fine (since those professionals are still using them). :)

Then you had a defective one because mine doesn't do that at all. The integrated GPU is about what you'd expect. But again, at least I can type flawlessly on mine without any issues. That makes it worth it alone.

It depends on many factors.

Do you live in a hot climate? Do you do intensive tasks regularly? Etc.

If you are barely using your CPU and GPU then obviously you wouldn't experience those problems, but if that's the case why even buy a MBP?

It's the Spacebar for me; which, combined with "substitute double-space with period" feature, makes for a very annoying. Time when writing text messages or. Documentation.
Wish I had the time or the motivation to go get it replaced, but I'd rather wait until I hear about Apple fixing the issue. Until that happens, it's safe to assume that the problem will come back in one form or another, and much time will be wasted.

Do those fit with the screen lid closed properly on macbook pro`s? i have a feeling they dont close the laptop properly and you only really can use them when the laptop is open and in that case i can just as well use a external keyboard instead.
Yes they do close properly. The only downside is not seeing each individual key light up when you have the keyboard brightness on full

Sorry to hear that so many are experiencing this issue. It can be extremely frustrating.

For those who are downplaying the pervasiveness of the issue, here's a question:

When was the last time that Apple went above-and-beyond doing more than is adequate to address an issue? I can't think of a recent example. If Apple sets up a special repair program for something then you can bet that it is more serious than the public knows.

I took mine in today... I booked it in before I seen this post as having issues with mine and getting to point where it’s annoying me.

They told me it will up up to 7 days (at least 3 days) even tho they told me they have the part in stock - they will try cleaning it first apparently. so I don’t think this post covered the UK.

Apple should declare victory and move on to the old style keyboard. After 4 years they will always have this vocal group that hates this keyboard. Why don't they just offer both?

I do plenty of intensive tasks and never encounter an issue. I push the CPU/GPU plenty. It’s clearly a better choice than the new ones. Anyone could see that. You also don’t get the faulty/ ugly touch bar on the 2015 model. The issues you speak of are non existent so it’s a win win to buy the 2015 model.

And that wouldn’t happen with just the regular keyboard?

It wasn’t an issue with the unibody MBPs. It started being an issue with the rMBPs. I never owned a rMBP, but am on my 2nd tbMBP. So far the issue was worse on my 2016 MBP than my 2018, but I haven’t had my 2018 long enough to conclude anything.

I like the keyboard, but still have plenty of irritation points with it. The oil transfer to the screen is one of them.

Wouldn’t go that far, but it sure seems that laptops have reached a point of diminishing returns for what most people need them to do. My 2018 MBP stutters less than my 2016 which stuttered less than my 2012. That's all great and all, but I still own a 2009 MBP as a backup and as a Web developer, I would be able to survive on that ancient beast if I absolutely had to... wouldn't be ideal, but wouldn't be impossible.

Cool, thank you! i will get one then. as i rather have that then a repair bill of 800 + usd when out of apple care after 3 year haha. thank you!

I just had a quick chat with Apple support because the "o" letter, and the "e" letter to a lesser degree, will frequently duplicate while typing. It actually happened during the support chat session. Their solution was for me to follow an Apple approved guide on how to use compressed air to clean my keyboard.

Not much choice if you want to target Apple hardware with your software. Most love their devices but hate how unreliable they are.

So, masochists then.

I mean it’s hard to “love” something that’s unreliable.
And yes, there’s always a choice. A choice to use older more reliable machines, for example, or rethink one’s obsession about a failing product.

Yeah, that "double space with period" feature makes absolutely no sense on a Mac, where you have easy access to that character. Oh well. :p

Is easy to disable, though.

I have a bad feeling that they're not going to redesign the keyboard in the next MacBook Pro redesign.

Good, they shouldn't!
[doublepost=1556230365][/doublepost]I think this is a case of things get ridiculously blown out of proportion. My wife, myself, and 30 of my employees have the 2016 MBP and not a single one of us have had issues. Yes I know it's a small sample but if the issue was THAT bad surely 1 or more of us would have had issues especially since we all work outside with our computers.

"should be prioritized"

That's a downfall right there

I wonder if Apple will start saying "only for Applecare customers"

When you have a company that says "in order to repair this, we must replace the entire top case." anything could be "improved"

It's like asking, why won't Apple bring back the anti-glare screen option when a certain percentage of people need and want them when using their Macs in sun-lit rooms with lots of glare and reflection.

Because Apple only care about money. If people keep buying Macs, then Apple does not care what you think.
