Had it in my cart, went to the bathroom, returned. Now late Jan. I'll just pass I guess. No rush since the discount is 3+ months out.

Yep. Looks identical to this 5k. Good job.

Yep. You clearly missed the point.

I'd be really tempted to get this if my MacBook Pro could run it and if it wasn't so ugly. I'm just going to wait for the new iMac to get a 5K display. Hopefully with the new display port spec the new iMacs will work in target display mode since I don't think they have to split streams for the latest 5K to work, right?

It looks a bit ugly. Don't care that it's thick though. If people complain that it's thick, then Apple might try to slim down the next iMac and fill it full of ****** laptop components.

The worst thing is that is doesn't work with the current iMac, and there is no guarantee that it will work with the next.

This. I don't understand. LG has plenty of monitors that are aesthetically pleasing but the LG/Apple monitor looks utilitarian/pedestrian. Apple had to provide their desired specs AND approve the design. Why did the final product end up looking like something you'd see in a bulk purchase used in cube farm call center? I'd love to know the rational behind giving that design an approving thumbs up.
Agreed. I'm still getting the 5k but wish the bezel was uniform.

I've just placed an order. Very pleased to see it available in December as promised. Impressed by Apple for extending the promo period too. They must know that there are a lot of unhappy Mac users around at the moment.

Style-wise I really like the aesthetics of this monitor, except for the thick top-bezel. Aside from that, I wouldn't change a thing. I realise I'm in a minority here; each to their own.

Not going to happen.. Marketing see no benenfits in that...
I disagree. They were working on it alongside codeveloping these displays. There is a great marketing benefit but it would be after the sales peak of the LG monitors before they could announce it. Nobody else is doing a product like it and it makes sense for many users.

$974 is such a great deal on this display. I don't have USB-C on my MacBook Pro or I'd have jumped on this. A no brainer for new 13" buyers who need a larger display at home or the office.

I hope the MSRP drops to this price (non-sale) by the time I buy a new MacBook pro in a year.

More like LG UltraThick. Tim Cook, you should be ashamed of yourself.

If you said that to an Eizo user you would look like you knew zero about backlights for professional colour applications where you can't have some laptop or tablet type of screen.

You are going to be waiting a very very long time then...

Anyone look at these up close and can tell me if the extra cost is worth the cost in screen quality over a Dell 4K? ($500) The Dell 4K are super sharp for me and the coding I do mostly (clean text).

I don't care about ports. I do not do Photography or Photoshop so color accuracy is not super important. I don't play games so latency not that big of a deal.

thx

Of course the 4K is sharp... at 21.5"!

But the 5K is sharp at 27"!

That's an huge difference!

Just a shame they don't also have a thunderbolt or displayport input. If so, I would have gotten one of these for my old mac pro.

Just go look at a 5K iMac. It's the same panel and the iMac's screen is stunningly crisp. This display is the main reason why I'm going to shell out the dough for a tbMBP. I code too and my eyes have been screaming for a better screen because I spend so much time staring at one.

There's only one thing I care about in the new tbMBP: 5K monitor support.

I don't get the complaints about the bezel. Not a big deal, really. I am wondering how this device would work for a Win box with USB-C and a modern GPU, though.

I ordered one when they were up for order a few weeks ago. No update on shipping. Anyone else in the same boat?

These are indeed pretty ugly, especially by Apple's standards, but someone will probably make something that you can dress them up with given that a lot of Mac users care about aesthetics. Also, I'm finally going to be able to mount my display on a monitor arm, which I've been wanting to do for ages, but I currently have a 30" Apple Cinema Display and they stopped selling the VESA mounts for those ages ago.

For me, this is just going to be a floating black square. I don't care if it's thick and I hope Apple takes notice that a lot of us are buying it for the specs and not because Johnny Ive loves it.. If it's as clear and bright as the iMac's display, it's gold to me.

I can't see why Apple couldn't release a new display in the casing of the iMac easily enough - basically, an iMac without the computer inside. It would have made a lot of people happy and surely not taken too much in the way of research and development?

I'm super pleased with the 5K display in my iMac - the picture quality is outstanding, and beautiful. I suspect the LG 5K will be just as nice as it's probably the same panel.

No way would I ever go back to a lower rez display for a desktop computer.

Can you clarify: Are you in the UK though, as US seem to have earlier dates? Thanks.

UK, London. I've selected the pick up option from Apple Store in Westfield and got 30th Dec as delivery date. I think i was lucky, the online store page shows Feb now.

True. But at least to my eye. The 4K on Dell's 27" is Super crisp and sharp. guess it would be even sharper on a 5k but prob. not worth the price diff for me. already estactic about Dell 4K 27 rez
