Sure, but you can get that same power in an M2 Air for $100 cheaper.

And if you're reallyconcerned the active (fan) cooling the Pro offers for max performance under sustained heavy load, then I think the 14-inch or 16-inch model with the Pro/Max chip should be the pro's choice.

The 13-inch two-port Pro model exists, I think, because some people need "Pro" in the name, but don't want to spend Pro money. End of story. It's the only explanation. (But one possible justification for choosing this model is that it offers longer battery life than any other Mac laptop.)
some of us actually like the Touch Bar too! I got my M1 MBP on purpose just so I could keep using the Touch Bar. It's great and I don't understand all the hate.

Why are these so expensive? It made sense when there were literally never sales on Apple products, but the MacBook is often available cheaper than this through authorized retailers in new condition.
I have to imagine 99% of these are customer returns, so they're pretty much the same as new, with the same warranty.

I think it’s more like we just like having the physical function keys more.
I bought into the Touch Bar on day 1. Apple sent me a survey relatively early on asking about the Touch Bar and it was only then that I first realized that I don't actually enjoy or benefit from the Touch Bar. The Touch Bar is alright. But I really do love the full sized function row on the new laptops. It's fantastic.

I personally love my M2 MacBook Air and it’s better webcam.

Their laptops are just a tad bit overpriced too, at least the Air and this 13” Pro.

Buying new from Amazon literally is the same as buying new and it’s often cheaper than this. The refurbed ones should be cheaper than the cheapest price Apple will allow a retailer to sell a new product for.

Just had the display on a two and half year old Intel version of this model crap out. Apple want to charge half the price of a new machine to replace the display. The same problem in previous models of touch-bar MBP were replaced under a program.

Just do not touch a Touch Bar machine. They are rubbish.

It’s in a weird position. It’s the same list price as the M2 Air with the 10-core GPU but lacks the updated screen and MagSafe. Anyone who needs the fan is probably going to get the 14” Pro.

Refurbs used to get a 15% discount. Now it’s only 10%. I agree it’s a less attractive proposition than before.

Not just Amazon. Other retailers like B&H offer credit cards that reimburse sales taxes, which amount to ~10% discounts in high-sales tax jurisdictions.

They probably have a lot of these to sell refurbished because people probably refurb them for the M2 Air or larger Pro. These models need to be discontinued.
Once the 14” Pros came out the 13” Pro use case became much less compelling. While the fanless Airs clearly throttle under extended loads, those who push the Macs to the limit are more inclined to get the 14” with the better screen and more powerful processors. Apple seems to recognized as much, pricing the 13” Pro the same as the Air similarly equipped. But I wouldn’t be surprised to see the 13” Pro discontinued or replaced next year.

The advantage of this MacBook Pro is the active cooling, previous enclosure design (some dig it), obviously the M2 chip and able to go beyond 16GB memory. However the refurb models are all 8GB memory and 256GB/512GB storage.

If I work for you and that’s the machine you offer me I’m going to ask for an Air or a Pro 14/16.
Employers aren't offering Macs. haha. You'll get offered an HP with an i5 processor. It'll be heavy, have short battery life, and be loaded with malware (like Antivirus). You'll get an "upgrade" every 6 years. Enjoy!

This is awkwardly priced just like the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus. It’s like Apple is screaming get the 14P/PM or the 14/16 MBP.
Sounds like Apple are encouraging the upsell exactly as planned then, it helps in Europe that the 14” and 16” MacBook Pro models are still priced at pre war inflation levels so look increasingly a better deal due to the weak euro and pound.

Apple will fix this in October with a price realignment when those models get the M2 Pro and M2 max CPUs (or perhaps might just jack up the price anyway if they don’t have product ready for launch)

Both does have a notch. A no go. It makes the menu bar bigger in height and waste space horizontally. Also I don't need the power of M1 Pro CPU. MBP M2 is nearly perfect for me. If I really miss something, it's the 120 Hz display like on my iPad Pro.

Except it wastes no space what so ever. Instead of a black physical bezel, you now have actually something IN the „bezel“. And if the look of the notch bothers you so much, you can just use one of many tools, which turns the whole menu bar black and just like that you have your bezel back

My 2015 MBP was started showing problems and I didn't need the power of M1pro so I was waiting for MBA with magsafe. Unfortunately the MBA with 512 SSD cost around 2000 USD in Sweden. So, I decided to buy a used 16" MBP M1 pro with 29 battery cycles for same amount, still 1000 USD cheaper than a new one!. It is much heavier than MBA but I do enjoy the screen size. This should be enough for me for the next 5-7 years.

No point trying to reason with anyone saying that still. I tried to debate it so many times, but 99% of them never have used it in person and just assume things.

The notch is a total non-issue on there.

I love my basic MacBook Air M2. Great price on sale most of the time at B&H photo for $1099 no tax w/payboo.

Powerful enough for 42MP in Photoshop.

And I often do. But then I have MagSafe port that is of no use. With the 2020 model I had an extra USB port that was more useful.
Yeah, compared to Intel four-port MacBook Pros, the 14"/16" models only have three USB-C ports. I agree with you that losing a USB-C port is a drag, but you don't just get MagSafe in exchange, you also get HDMI and SD card slot. You may not need or want any of those things, which makes it a net negative for you; but if that's the case, I think you could argue just as readily that the HDMI port could have and should have been a USB-C port. That's what I think, anyway. In any event, yes, you got three single-purpose ports in at the price of one multifunction USB-C port.

As someone who likes the 13" form factor and also came to a 13" M1 from an Intel four-port 13" Pro, I find it annoying and inconvenient to have no USB-C ports at all on the right side. I'd welcome MagSafe though.
