I just received my Silver APM from Amazon for $447. There have been a number of these Used/Like New or Very Good units available from Amazon--you just have to keep checking. My pair is absolutely pristine.
I've had very good luck ordering their warehouse stuff myself. Every single item I've ordered (3-4 things now) were even still sealed.

I appreciate the opportunity to save a ton of money and give something a well-deserved second life. And with the APM, AppleCare makes this a pretty risk-free purchase.

I wonder if people similarly go to BMW forums and have a good whine about M8 replacement parts; say a headlight unit at around $4K? Especially those who will never own an M8.
I paid 3400 for a cracked windshield on my //M X5 (well.. My insurance did) HUD, adaptive cruise and front camera calibrate will do that to ya...

I think the AirPods Max will sell worse than the original HomePod. They sit in this no man's land between audiophile/professional gear and prosumer gear. I think if they can get these things down to $399, make them lighter, and put a power button on them they would sell a lot better.

Ear cushions are specifically molded to fit Jony Ive's ears. If anyone has problems with fit, it's their fault for not having the proper anatomy.

For perspective H95 ear cushions are $100
We’ll have none of your perspective getting in the way of our hot takes, you!!

They really should raise the price to $99 and maximize the profit. People will pay it for the Apple brand. Milk ‘em hard.
According to folks on internet forums (with years of manufacturing experience I’m assuming), they only cost $5 to make. With that much profit, keep the price lower to sell moar.

Nah, they wouldn’t sell any better because the folks specifically concerned about the price, the heft and the power button are not folks that would buy them at ANY price anyway, those are just well worn complaints.

I just fiddled with my AirPod Maxes and found out the cushions are held in place by magnets. Amazing. Will be stupid easy to take them off to clean.

I thought this is for fashion or novelty, do ear pads really wear out and need to be replaced??
They wear out. At least with good headphones that you don’t throw away after 3 years. My Sonys ear pads lasted 5 years.

No sweat issues here. I’ve worn them for a couple hours at a time and find them light and comfy.
Same here. I have worn mine for a 6 hour teams meeting and my ears never begun to sweat AND there was no condensation inside the Airpods Max afterwards...

I love that I can wear these for a 4 hour meeting and only use a fraction of the battery life.

The profit margin on these must be insane. Surely it can't cost them more than a couple of bucks to produce these.

These replacement pads are a great accessory.
—ear pads do wear out
—being able to switch out colors is always welcome
—the price is reasonable.

As to what they cost Apple to produce, I do not care. That’s Apples job, not mine.

Serious question - what's your measure for reasonableness?

I ask because I often see people who use "a reasonable price" and "a price I can afford to pay" interchangeably even though they are/should be very different.

It's subjective, obviously. For me, it's a price that I'm willing to pay considering the value/pleasure I receive in return. Materials and design are important to me and factor into my calculation.

(I was surprised the replacement ear pads weren't priced at $99.)

I have Airpods Max and the quality is flawless on the cushions. Maybe the raw materials are a couple of bucks, but I imagine they have to discard many in quality control and use considerable ressources on the manufacturing equipment.

Also. As other have mentionend regarding the price - B&O replacements are $100 and Sennheiser's are £75. So the price seems reasonable compared to the competition.
