What now? Is Apple now going to claim they own rectangular black cases? Or maybe they're going to claim they own cases that fit snugly over tablets & phones, because they own sleek and minimal. Seriously, 10 patents on cases? Are there even 10 design variables for cases?

I really don't know what game Samsung was playing. No offence to anyone who is a fan of the company, but I've been involved in businesses with a number of asian companies. I myself am an asian and I don't feel shy to say that the manipulation and corruption you would find at any level is astonishing.

No rant; but just an opinion given my experiences in the corporate world.
I find myself in a similar position to yourself. I'm a Caucasian living in Silicon Valley, with years of large scale corporate experience with American companies. I also do a vast amount of business internationally. American companies can be every bit as corrupt, manipulative, and menacing as any company world wide.

Thus I ask myself, just what kind of game is Apple playing? I would like to think that they are simply taking the required precautions to protect themselves. I truly would. And I hope they are. But...the way they are going about this, leaves me with many questions.

The way they handled Antennagate forever changed my view of them. For the CEO to come out against his loyal customers with a condescending tone and statement like "your holding it wrong" was very offensive, spoke volumes about the mans narcissism, and gave but a glimpse to the public of Apple's true culture.

Also having greater than average knowledge of the inner workings of the company from Cupertino, leaves me feeling uneasy and disappointed at the way they have morphed into an organization that is far from what it once was. They've gone from anti-establishment, to being "The Man".

All in the name of greed, power, control, and a desire by one man to rule the world. One man so influential, so powerful, so convincing that he lured millions into his web of control.

Of course, Steve Jobs never said that. It was a deliberate rephrasing of a private email sent the day the iPhone was released before the problem was understood completely. It's ridiculous to draw the conclusions that you did from such a circumstance.

No offence and I respect your experiences and opinions, but I'll totally disagree with that.

Apple is playing a game? Sure, they are into a number of controversies, but please give me examples where you thought Apple was being corrupt or morally wrong? Here, I explained how I think that Samsung could have manipulated with Anymode to do such a thing given the circumstances. I really don't understand what you're trying to come up to?

Really? So you forgot Google, HTC and T-Mobile coming up with: "you're holding it wrong" OR "you should probably move" during the Nexus One signal fiasco? Forgotten, I believe.
So how about Google's, HTC's and T-Mobile's true culture? I don't remember them giving refunds or free bumper cases to any one. Hell, no one even cared when I called HTC a number of times to discuss signal strength problems on my HTC Mozart7 device. What culture do those companies have then, who wouldn't even register a complaint or give a refund for inconvenience and a poor quality device?

Haa! What do you even know about Apple? I would love to know. I have been involved in a number of projects in silicon valley. From CMU Research to Stanford/Google AI cars, I have spend close to 15 years of my life in silicon valley. I have good relations with people from Google/Apple/MS and have known the state of these companies for a while. There definitely is corruption in all of them, I must say, but you're just trying to put a bad name on the company without any arguments or facts. Try harder please.

All in the name of greed, power, control, and a desire by one man to rule the world. One man so influential, so powerful, so convincing that he lured millions into his web of control.

You should write poetry or a book really. Dramatical. And people are fools to have themselves experienced the service, gratitude and the quality of products in a real Apple Store. Sure.

Way too confusing ...

The third party company (Anymode) that makes the covers is privately held and the CEO is the nephew of the Samsung chairman and CEO. The parent company of Anymode is Youngbo engineering, who's CEO is also the CEO of Samsung himself ...

Basically it's these are all companies spun off and owned by the Samsung family (meant to overcome legalities??)

It seems thats what everyone is missing. That this can be traced back to Samsung directly. It hilarious how all the anti-apple's are trying to back track saying this is not true even though its certified by Samsung themselves.

I would sue too just look at that! Never knew they copied the smart cover. Wow samsung can't you innovate on your own? If all you can do is copy apple then there is no need for you to even exist at the end of the day. And people complain that apple copied the notification center, just wow.

you obviously didnt read the whole post. It says that samsung didnt create those and that they were made by someone else.

biggest balls in the world

Not only did they completely copy the design they messed with the color palette and made them look tacky.

Respectfully we have two differing opinions.

It's obvious by this post, there's no point in me responding.

Cheers... :)

Which is completely irrelevant.

Are you suggesting that all the products that carry the "Made for iPhone" or "Made for iPad" denoting they have been certified by Apple, can therefore be traced back to Apple?

And should any of them be "copies" of other products, that Apple is in any way partly responsible.

I'm sorry. So do you only converse with people who have similar opinions as yours?

As for non-responding, what I said was pretty much to the point and probably correct. Still a lot of questions for you in the post, but may be you were afraid of comprehending the reality. Would still love to hear what you think of HTC's/Google's/T-Mobile's culture. :)

Considering Apple did innovate and Samsung is copying...not sure what your point is.

Samsung is blatantly copying Apples designs which cost Apple tons of $$$ in R&D.

I had no clue about the smart covers either but my god, seriously Samsung?

I do not mean this as a personal attack but you should learn to read or has someone read the article to you before you post with such blind cult like devotion to Apple.

Seriously, I just don't get Samsung here. They have designed various products to look similar to Apple products but with the Samsung logo. They can't be trying to trick customers into buying a Samsung product they've mistaken for an Apple product, so what are they trying to do?

When you cannot innovate, you litigate.

The only viable tablet on the market after nearly two years.

iPhone 4S brings Siri to everyone. Changes the market dynamics once again.

Industry "ultrabooks" can barely keep up with the MBA.

The list goes on.

Anyone who thinks Apple is resorting to litigation because of a lack of ideas or some sort of magical confusion about what to do next (or non-interest in doing anything new) needs their head checked.

All Apple has been doing for the last few years is innovating. It's really the rest of the industry that's been asleep at the wheel. They haven't figured out the same game that Apple's already figured out several years in advance.

reading the whole article and maybe answering a short quiz over it should be required before making comments

Can't wait for Nokia to re-enter the US in a big way and sue the life out of Apple with its arsenal of GSM/GPRS patents. Would love to Apple try to work around that :D

The only viable tablet on the market after nearly two years.

That's only your opinion, lot of people are happy with their Android tablets, many photoshop users are happy with their Win7 tablet and people like me are happier with a Playbook

You are on quite the kick in this thread. Seem to be very angry that they included the ripped-off smart cover picture. Why?

Samsung has demonstrated a willingness to copy Apple on a number of fronts, including third-party accessories.

Samsung knew very well that the case looked like a smart cover and if people didn't point it out, Samsung would have went ahead and sold it through its channel.

No one knows what cases are being described in Apple's complaint, so I wouldn't be so sure of the cases that aren't included. Ask any lawyer, these lawsuits can get pretty twisted and crazy.

Can't speak for Knight but maybe he's angry for the same reason Apple fanboys here are angry at Samsung. Apple fanboys are furious with samsung because Samsung, according to them, deliberatly copies Apple to make customers think it's Apple products. And now Macrumors post an image of an unrelated 3rd-party case in an article about Apple suing Samsung deliberatly to make Samsung look bad

Apple is one truly a joke of company...
