Well, since Verizon gives me a 22% discount, and AT&T offered me a lousy 10%, I can just use the money I'm saving to buy all the water, soda, chips, pretzels, ice cream, etc., that I want now. Thanks Verizon!

I cant believe i am contributing to this pointless thread but to amuse the OP in his idiotic assessment

1. The online sales were through the roof, sold out days quicker they they expected, Obviously the iphone is a flop on verizon

2. I would guess that 90% of the people that REALLY wanted the phone, ordered on line, they were not going to wait till the 10th and take a chance of waiting on lines

3. most people who want the phone and are in no rush are waiting till June.

4. People, like my wife, CANT WAIT to get off ATT, she has to wait 3 more weeks and then she will get the Verizon iPhone, If she cancels now it's an $80 charge, not worth it, i would assume most ATT iphone users are in the SAME EXACT situation being they all renewed their contracts for the 3Gs or IP4.

I spoke to at least a dozen people at work that cannot wait to get it, Their answers are "i am waiting for my contract to end" or "I am waiting to see what happens in June"

"IF" Verizon iPhone in June is a big change compared to the existing one, then see if you can write a post like this

Your opinion, and you know what they say about Opinion's ?

yeah most people i know who really wanted it preordered it...i myself just waited till the release day and bought it at verizon's 57'th and 3rd ave store in the city.

just because the lines weren't bad doesnt mean people bought it, cause a lot of people did.

i ****ing hate att and t and ever since the iphone came out for them i wanted it...i waited until last thursday for verizon's as i bought it.

it's great. it really is. i have used it a decent amount and the calling is awesome. data at times can be slow but overall well worth it.

i was pretty disappointed when my verizon order went through without a hitch. I was further disappointed that verizon took away the experience of activation hiccups and all the other fun stuff that at&t did for the previous launches. People can claim that verizon's launch was a flop, but honestly i feel like it was a success because of better planning. What is better, not waiting in a line because all current customers got the opportunity to pre-order a week earlier, and you could order online the day prior, or to wait in a long line with the hopes that the last unit the store has does not go to the person in front of you while the at&t fools fumble with how to activate the damn thing. And if you wanted free milk and cookies you need to attend the initial iphone 4 launch. This was not a new apple product, this was the same product that they launched last summer only now it is for a new carrier. My verizon store offered me some great treats, they offered me less dead zones and an overall faster network. Yes you heard me, faster. At&t sucks in virginia and while the at&t network offered me higher burst speeds, verizon's consistency has given me a faster internet experience. So there is my milk and cookies. :)

+1:d

Maybe they figured that the ability to actually make phone calls without getting dropped compensated for the lack of snacks. (insert rimshot here. :) )

Verizon allowed TONS of people to upgrade early and have their phones in hand before the official launch on both the 3rd and the 9th. I ordered 2 phones, one online on the 9th, and bought one in store on the 10th. Walked into the VZW store mid-day, and sure, there wasn't a huge crowd - maybe 15-20 customers, but they were bringing in treats from the Starbucks next door (cookies and muffins) and handing out mini bottles of SmartWater. Then went to my local FedEx office on Saturday to try to pick up my phone early (its set for delivery today), and they said they have thousands of boxes from Verizon and couldn't possibly find my box even if they searched all day. Thousands of boxes (probably exaggerated, but still), just in my local Fedex office alone!

To sum up, I agree, I don't think this was a failure of a launch in any way (except maybe VZW and apple having their stores waaaay overstocked with employees, but better safe than sorry), but rather a really well-planned and well-executed launch that led to more happy customers (with early arrivals) and less lines and waiting in the cold on launch day.

Plus, seeing as lots of people are still under contract (both Verizon and AT&T), I would imagine iPhone sales would pick up in the coming months.

I'm in Hawaii, so it definitely wasn't the cold weather that kept me from the possibility of standing in line for the Verizon iPhone. I just don't like standing in lines... I have yet to experience the madness of Black Friday sales and avoid the malls like the plague during the Christmas season.

I pre-ordered my phone on the Feb. 3 and it was delivered on Feb. 7. I've been happily using it since then. :)

Verizon hooked me up an iPhone 4!! And... $100 dollars off of the subsidized pricing!! So I went with the 32GB. No... Coookies though..... :(

They sent me my iPhone and delivered it the Monday before it was released to retail. On top of that they gave me an iPhone that hasn't dropped a call yet. The people who ordered through Apple got theirs 1-2 days later.

I don't know what to bitch about anymore now that my Verizon iPhone doesn't drop calls. I drove all over Vegas today and not one single drop. I couldn't drive a quarter mile without dropping on AT&T.

On the release of the iPhone 4 I was amazed that my family of 4 was offered everything from soda, water, chips, chocolate, and ice cream from Apple for my AT&T iPhone 4 on Release Day 2010.

What did Apple offer for the Verizon Release in 2011, oh wait, there were no lines, and very few phones were sold. Huh?

I went to AT&T today because my other son wanted an iP4 in the 35-40 minutes we were there, 6 iPhones were sold nothing else, 5 4's and 1 3GS.

I went to a Verizon store to see what they had as far as the iP4, people were just there buying some Droid's and Droid X's I think AT&T has 20 Million iPhone users I personally do not see Verizon every getting that many users, especially that there were Verizon users switching to AT&T today when I was in their store.
Do you really need ice cream and soda when you g to buy a phone? Something tells me you need to go on a diet.

And you know this because you have access to their sales data? or do you stand outside and give a pebble to everyone that comes out with an iPhone? No I know, you use an abacus right? You're living in a world of pure imagination willy wonka...

Um no need to be rude.. I know this because both a sales rep and the manager told me...

Glad everything went well for you. I preordered got my phone 2 days early, then the fun began. Took 2 days and 7 phone calls to tech support to get voicemail activated. Opened a ticket because of 6 kbs download speeds - 4 days and multiple calls with no resolution. GPS was bad on the phone and Verizon refused to fix. Returned phones to Verizon. My point is one good or bad experience isn't a trend. YMMV.

First off I dont need to diet? I am healthy and athletic and work out at the gym 4-6 days per week, but I do not need to answer to you anyway, and I gave most of the stuff except the water to my kids who are also healthy, but thanks for looking out

The main reason I posted this was just to see what the difference was between the AT&T Release this summer 2010 and What Verizon did this Winter 2011?

However Verizon make work well for everyone, but I have zero trouble with AT&T, and it is funny how people will compromise with Verizon when AT&T gives you more capabilities without paying extra for something Verizon can not simply do. I left VZ after 8 years with them and I do not ever look back, I am happy with many other millions of people. It will be interesting to see how many iPhones are sold over Verizon in the next year or so, compared to how many have been sold on AT&T for that matter.

I guess the next step for Apple to get their iPhone all over is Sprint and T-Mobile but we will see.

In your first post you were comparing what an Apple (not ATT) store gave people in line vs. what Verizon stores gave people.

One big difference is that Apple makes an immediate profit of hundreds of dollars per phone sold, while Verizon has an immediate debt on their books as they pay Apple hundreds of dollars per phone in subsidies. Apple's "free" soda and ice cream was the least they could do.

As for lack of lines, it seems that the preorder went nice and easy with Verizon. Daily iPhone sales are still outnumbering those on ATT.

What were you expecting? It's surprising Apple got that many new sales considering how long they've let Android go without competition.

I don't see how it is a compromise to chose vzw. When I look at PHONES, my top priority is the ability to make calls. Compromising would be choosing the carrier that can't compete a call 50% of the time so your Internet can be a little faster.

When I walked into the ATT store on release day of the first iPhone the employees told me not to get it and that it was not expected to do well. I have owned every iPhone since then and have never looked back...

My point is that it is funny to see how the launches have went from nothing (at least where I live) to people waiting outside for days
