Why not just return it and get the iPad 2 for the exact same price?

1. You don't need an iPad 2. Some great new features, but for most apps, hardly leaps and bounds to justify the....

2. $100, which is always nice.

I was waiting for the introduction just to hit eBay and grab a first gen. I didn't foresee Apple selling refurb first generations for $350. Grabbed one the second they were available. Refurb iPads are just as good as new!

EDIT: by "You", I don't mean the poster of the comment, I'm referring to those who might want the older model.

Well I do have to say for a big corporation, that's actually a very generous move.

But yeah, it's really funny how people don't research these things. I think you'll find the very good majority of people don't.

Nope... but you did get to use your iPad for a year while the rest of us waited.

I hope you were joking.

I would have paid twice for it to be honest. I use my iPad everyday. The prices are actually very reasonable for an Apple device. It really made me pause on the entire laptop concept when traveling.

the price seems good.. would it still be worth getting the ipad 1 for $399? i have an atom n270 netbook.. is the ipad1's cpu faster? and from what i've read.. flash is not available and possibly will never be available on apple products. is there another option to be able to use flash? also, how's the built in speaker on this? is it loud enough to listen to music on it? could the ipad1 also play hd netflix? thanks

Who in the world rates these things "Negative"?

Probably people who have a problem with the idea of "the customer is always right".

It is kind of ridiculous if you think about it. Someone agrees to pay a certain price for a product and they pay it. Then a few days later a newer product comes out and the customer feels it is their right to get money back? It's crazy.

Don't get me wrong, I like this poilcy as a customer (I actually used it years ago when buying an iPod mini), but if I was a company like Apple I'd hate it.

Got my Refund!!

Thanks MacRumors. Just phoned Apple and got £111.99 back (thats gbp) from Apple UK.
Bought the ipad for my wife who loves it and does not want to swap it!!!!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

I'm one of those people. I stay up on everything for the most part but went ahead and ordered a 64 3G anyways on the 19. I had it engraved and it finally made it's way into my hands from China on the 1st (two day shipping). I didn't hear a lot of solid info on the new one and figured it would be a 1.5. Obviously that's not the case so I decided what the heck and called Apple an hour after the keynote to see if I could exchange it. The rep I talked to allowed the return even though used for two days without any questions asked. When I printed the mailing labels, the shipping slip had a line for "Open Box" and it said no. So I called back and wanted to make sure there wouldn't be an issue before I threw it in the mail. The second rep I talked to said that shouldn't be a problem and she said the engraving shouldn't be an issue as the first guy already "closed" the case and didn't require a restocking fee. So I shipped it off. We'll see what happens. I obviously got lucky and I really didn't expect that anyways.

Does anyone know or have an opinion on whether the iPhone wifi hot spot will require a tethering fee? That'll determine if I get a 3G one this time.

"With Apple having most yesterday to slash prices..."

most yesterday? What is that supposed to say?

I believe most people buy without research and not the other way around. :p

seems probable. i myself buy most of my things without research: my new camera, my last hd-tv, my printer, my dvd-player...

only things i bought with research was all of my apple-stuff and my new bycicle.

It's funny to think people still exist whom buy without research.

If you're going to go to the effort of using “whom”, please use it correctly.

Probably people who have a problem with the idea of "the customer is always right".

I do. If there's one piece of wisdom I've taken away from my days working retail, it's that the customer usually has a point, except for the sort of customer who will say “the customer is always right” when pressed. That customer is invariably wrong, and very loudly so.

Apple is one of very few companies that would do this. Car companies would never. Furniture, clothing, etc. would never. Only technological gadget makers would even think of having a policy like this. And even then, it's rare.

It's not THAT rare... Apple is not going above and beyond their normal return policy. It's just to stop people from doing dumb **** to get their money back.

For example, I buy a TV out of a Best Buy for $700. 29 days later the exact same TV goes on sale and is $200 cheaper. Now what I could do is go to the store, buy the exact same TV again for $500, then walk right back into the store and return it with my receipt that shows it's $700 from the first purchase, and get my full money back on my original purchase. I think a lot of retailers realize that people can do this, so in order to save everybody the trouble they usually do price matches within their normal return policy window if there is a price drop.

Most places don't write down serial numbers on receipts.

Nice move on Apples part to refund money or let people upgrade. Great way to build goodwill.

It's not to say they didn't go Apple's site to read up on things.

You think the average Joe out there knows Apple's product cycles. It's not important to them.

If that's the case .. they shouldn't complain about how they feel spoiled because they bought Apple product just days before the new one released.

So they better be silent and enjoy their purchase because they don't care and think that it's not important to do some research for information before they buy.

Why they complain then? People who bought computer stuff should really know how to gain information. It's out there and it's free as air you breathe

14 days? Or 30 day return period?

I just got off the phone with my local Apple Store because I got an iPad 16 days ago.. So I wanted to call and get the scoop on when exactly the dates apply, etc...

When I mentioned it to the Apple Store employee, he said that I had 30 days as long as I have the receipt (which my receipt is dated Feb 14th).

Anyone else call in and get this response?? I would love it to be true!!

Either way, on March 11th, I'm walking in with my iPad 1 and receipt to see what happens!

***crossing fingers***
