SONOS ROCKS!

Indeed.

Except, in each room I have either Play 1's or a newer One. I feel the sound quality was better on the older Play 1 than the newer generation. Also, I like how on all the Sonos units, they are an automatic Chromecast target where for Apple Music, it can only cast to the One (unless you group). This makes it less family friendly when trying to explain that for some things you can use the AM or Podcast app direct where others you have to go through the Sonos app.

Still, I am sticking with Sonos vs HomePod.

Two Echo Plus 2nd gen will blow out your glorified Beats aka HomePod speaker for a lot cheaper don't even bother using Siri because it's useless. It's because you paid $350 on your Beats speaker with Apple logo on it doesn't mean you have a good taste in sound quality. You know you can also output Echo devices to a really good speakers that still cheaper than your HomePod. Don't even mention how much you like your Beats headphone and tell people they have a poor taste in sound quality because you spend another $350, that you just left hanging on your neck for decoration.
This post reeks of guesses and hearsay. Have you owned Homepods and listened to them at home? The Echo Plus is not in the same league.

This is a big reason I switched to the Homepods. My wife hated the Sonos app, and never knowing how to send music to it. Siri on the Homepod seems to get music right, and being able to Airplay from most any app brings a level of consistency. I still have a Playbar/2 Play 1's for the Home Theater, but would ditch that if Apple made the Homepods work better with AppleTV.

Open it up so please can play Spotify etc and you’ll increase sales.

Does your wife put www. every time she goes to a website? The Sonos app is easy to use although I pretty much just use AirPlay 2

Lol the echo sound is still trash. Nothing has changed in that area

Echo i’m Sure is still amazing at sending texts to your contacts without your permission though.

True. I think my wife would prefer if I put the old Bose Wave back on the counter. I also added some Homekit switches to a few lights in the house and no one gets those either. Using your phone/apps to control music and lights is a major hurdle for normal non-tech people. I tried a cheap Google Home thinking that if all they had to do was 'say it' - we'd be good, but then everyone was turned off by a constantly listening device. I won't even dare switch them from a TouchID to FaceID based device right now! *mind blown*

Got one of these as a gift. I wasn't going to buy one originally, but after listening to our gift, it is an amazing speaker in a tiny package. It fills our whole living room loudly on just 30% volume. The vocals and the bass just sound amazing compared to what we were used to with Echo and even the MacBook Pro 2016. Siri definitely could use an update, but Siri definitely does a great job with Apple Music. Even more amazingly is when this thing is blasting at 70% volume, I can speak in a normal voice in the kitchen and say "hey Siri skip this song" and it works perfectly. It is almost a little too good. I ask my phone sometimes what time it is while showering and the HomePod picks it up far away.

Says the guy who owns a Beats Solo and thinks they're the best sounding headphone out there.

Yes she does. :) - and we're making progress with Sonos. I found putting sources/playlists as 'Favorites' in the Sonos app was a big help. Getting Podcasts through Sonos is the next challenge. I can see how this would all be easier to just 100% Apple it but I am trying to fight deeper lock in these days.

Same here. Apple Music subscriber and HomePod owner. The sound coming out of it the HomePod is fantastic for its size. I would love to get a second one, but the prices are too high for what it is. Siri is ABSOLUTE TRASH on this thing. I have to say Hey Siri, twice, to get it to respond at least 50% of the time. Then, at random times, it will blurt "mm hmm" or "I'm sorry, I didn't get that" when no one said anything even remotely close to sounding like "Hey Siri." I keep waiting for Siri to get better, but I have been waiting years and looks like I will continue to wait.

If I had to do it all over again, I would go with a couple SONOS One speakers. This is what I recommend to people who ask if I like my HomePod.
We bought a 2 pack of Sonos Ones for less than 1 Homepod. They are pretty awesome sounding as well.

And the HomePod still lets anyone in your house access personal information on your iPhone

Does anyone else get a strong sense tech is going to take a BIG hit in 2019?

Phones over $1000, Google's biased search engine, Facebook (and others') selling your info, Social Media restricting FREE speech, lack of phone improvements to warrant upgrading, longer phone cycles, the higher-end computers really asking a small fortune for current tech...

It is because GOOG/Facebook/Twit/Amazon etc are in a world of trouble, criminally.

This probably is the most conclusive evidence that they are not selling all that well, which isn't overly surprising tbh. Most people don't care about the sound quality and don't need an additional Siri device when they already have a phone. Kind of glad they aren't selling well. Wish Apple sold these for $250.. Would bring the resale market/sale prices down to $175-$200 which would be great.

I say this as somone who owns 4 of them and bought my dad one for Father's Day (he loves it). I have never paid over $270 for any of mine.

I’ve got no idea if that’s true for “most people,” but if it is, most people have poor taste. Echos may be good at a lot of things, but sound quality isn’t one of them. (To be fair, I haven’t heard the 2nd gen Echo Plus yet; maybe it’s acceptable).
Actually i have a decent set of PC speakers hooked up to the Echo output and works just fine for much less. BUT to be fair, i have both apple music and Spotify, i use Spotify more since it has an ALexa Skill so telling it to play works just fine.

People ripping on Alexa for its sound quality are the same ones who must not understand you can bluetooth Alexa to existing high end speakers in your home.. and it has ports.. for those of us apple users that have forgot what that is... they are these plugs on hardware that you can plug other things into...like speakers..

No discounts for Canada? $449 CAD still..... I can’t imagine these things are flying off the shelves

Wake me up when I can buy it for $300 CAD....the maximum price I would remotely consider it

“Siri, play some Beatles songs”
Shall I look for it on the web ?
“No, just play something like “Get back”, as published by Apple”
Shall I look for it on the Apple Website ?
“No, I meant Apple Records”
Apple is the most premiere computer company in the world.
“I know, I know, but I asked for “Get Back” or “Let it be”
OK, I will keep it as it is.
“Well - just forget it”
