Awesome

I am impressed by Apple's stance on this matter. Unlike Microsoft, I feel that they are going the right way in letting their customers have access to tools that will allow them to get the most out of their devices, be it OSX or iOS. To quote from the Credo Card; "We assume positive intent..."

So true. Their 'activation' process is miserable.

That's for sure. I am about to retire a MBP and mini. I will have to call Microsoft and tell them my story so I can get a special override number. The last time I had to do that for Office 2011 it took awhile.

I got my iLife '11 (DVD) in the ethical Apple Online Store, but is does not allow me to upgrade the ethical way via the Mac App Store. So, I got the new iLife suite from an unethical source, but then again, it is free.

This is really cool and I cant wait to get these updates.

However, I would much rather pay full price for these apps in exchange for Apple's hardware being cheaper.

Anyone else feel this way?

It's not working, it says the application is not installed with the same AppleID, and it says the AppleID is: (null)

I installed the trial versions... So I think they fixed this.

"We like to believe that our users are honest, even if that belief is in vain."

And Microsoft's business model is based on the opposite. One of the thousand reasons I love Apple's products and philosophy.

And one of the thousand reasons why Microsoft will always be like the dickish older brother in Weird Science.

Still not working for me! I don't expect to get Aperture 3.5 (it won't run on OS X Lion) but the iLife and iWork updates are not showing up either. Not in Software Update and not in Updates in the Mac App Store.

I guess I'll have to wait for the new iMac I ordered to arrive.

Worked for me with all the iWork and iLife apps except iMovie. For that they want to charge me $14.99.

I have iWorks '09 but I only see the option to buy Pages, Numbers, etc.

Is there a trick to getting them upgraded free? There is no upgrade mechanism in the apps themselves and the app store lists them as $19.99 each.

App Store does all the upgrades. It worked flawlessly for me, downloading all the new iWorks and iLife apps. Note that it will not replace your old iWorks apps, but put new ones into the /Applications folder. So you will have both versions at the same time.

I have a perfectly legitimate (paid for) version of Aperture on my system (Version 2.1.4) - I'm not seeing any means to update it though. Are there limits to which versions Mavericks will recognise and let you update?

I think this is a very interesting move by Apple.
Maybe the pro apps will be next. Talk about open it to tons of people who would never consider buying it in the first place. Halo effect?

Holy crap.

Im so buying the entire iOS iWork set to go along with my new acquisitions.

You need 3.0 or higher.

A company that trusts the vast majority of its users who want easier usage and don't want to pirate stuff? INCONCEIVABLE!

This is why I buy Apple stuff. Apple isn't perfect, but it's pretty darn good to its customers. I personally have never gone in and heard, "Well we could've fixed this 48 hours ago, but your warranty expired."

Why not just give it free to all people then? Or will Apple reward me with genuine copies for downloading illegal copies? I've got the iOS versions but not the Mac versions so would be keen to try the Mac versions.
