So

its a benifit that current members get?

How long is the application when starting? Hopefully it isn't that long.

Also did any new customer try to do the pre approval

The pre-approval is only for current customers. A few post up we discuss the process for approval. It is basically your SSN, DOB, Address, and the time it takes for them to run your credit. With so many people applying at the same time, it could take a little bit to go through. Honestly, I would plan on missing the first wave if you are signing up for the IUP and buying the X.

The credit run should be siniliar to when I apply for a credit card. So about same time im assuming.

Also what time frame did people who did Apple upgrade for 7 get there phones? The ones that did the same thing I would be doing for the X

I read they missed the first wave. Many complained about the phone they wanted (jet black 7) was essentially gone by time they finished the process.

The jet black was gone within a minute and led to a ton of uproar. They did good and got most of us jet black phones within 7-10 days of release. That’s why I suspect this process for CURRENT IUP users is to at least offer a better chance and/or allocate their preferred device into the cart prior to other customers.

The other major change this time was that phones didn't have to be allocated to stores. They all came from Apple; took me a minute for renewal of 8 Plus (predone credit process), and about five minutes for a new 8 to sign up in the IUP (from scratch).

That is the answer I was really looking for: How long it takes start to finish for a new application. I really think 5 minutes will result in a late ship date for the X. I am thinking original apple watch type of delays.

Right; last year, stock was allocated ahead of time to different stores. It seems that there is a blanket launch day availability this year with IUP presenting either delivery or in store pickup for IUP customers.

We’ll see how it goes in a month or so.

Another question for those who went through pre approval for the 8;

Did they also check your carrier status during pre-approval? Or did that happen during checkout?

That's correct. But see my comment on why the iPhone Upgrade Program is terrible. They run a hard inquiry every year on their customers. It's BS in my opinion. Verizon offers the same service with AppleCare+ for the same price but does not do a credit check every year...
Once again, no hard pull this year. I’ve had one hard pull in 3 years of the program (the first year).

I'm thinking you would. These initial orders always require you to have an active account with a carrier.

I see, but does the carrier have to match what you originally signed up with? Also how soon do you have to return your old phone by mail?

You might call to see if there is a way, but when I placed my iPhone 8 order, I did not see any way to do that. They already had all my carrier information already, and I just entered my Verizon PIN.

14 days according to this in the email they sent.

That's interesting. When I tapped through the pre-approval (as a test, without ordering) it asked me to choose a carrier? Did you not see that?

Thanks for the 14 days info. That's sort of what I figured, but in case of travel it's definitely something to be aware of.

You know now I'm not sure since you bring it up. I may have already picked Verizon when I preregistered.
