And
Why would anyone ever use their trade-in service. A private sale would yield substantially more cash in hand, to put towards the replacement.
And it would bring many more users to the Apple system who would not be able to afford first hand purchases.

Plus buyers always try and beat you down on price.
I've had people on eBay offer me like 50% of my list price on items. Like come on, I may be willing to haggle a little but that is ridiculous. And then I fear selling to those people even if they bring up the offer substantially, because I assume they'll cause problems due to paying a lot more than they originally planned to.

$670 for a 2020 base MBA w 512GB. Paid ~$800 this summer for it when I need a machine for work when my 2018 died and was in the shop. Got free AirPods so not a bad deal overall.

$950 for a 2018 MBP 16 GB 512GB i9.

Keeping the 2018 since it can run Bootcamp.

Ebay automatically lets people make an offer up to 50% less unless you change the setting. I've had scammers offer me 30% more than the Buy It Now price.

I’ll keep my M1 512 GB MBP and stick to my 5 year upgrade rule. Don’t forget, this is Rev A of a new design. That’s both good and bad. Like I said in a previous thread, if it’s this powerful at the M1 stage, imagine M2, 4 or 5 by the time I’m ready to upgrade?

Thanks for the tip but yeah bottomline is, eBay is full of scammers and eBay protects them by ruling against sellers most of the time even if you show ample proof. It is a very risky idea to sell expensive items there.

I'm balking at the $2K price tag. My mid 2019 MBP might be the last MBP that I use. May have to settle for the humble MBA in the future.

I listed my 2018 MBP 15" i7 on Facebook Marketplace for $1400 CAD and had no bites. Apple took it for $1170 CAD, and they even let me keep the USB-C charging cable.

For Macs, I agree. With the iPhone 13 launch, with the carrier promos it was basically a wash between a private sale and a trade-in.

For fun I checked my 2 systems out....What I don't get...trade in values provided...

M1 Air 8/256 Cost 999 trade in value. $620 62% of purchase cost

M1 Pro 16/1T Cost 1899 trade in value. $900 47% of purchase cost

I did a test order of the big boy 16" 32 cores, and nowhere did it ask me if I had a trade-in during the whole process.. why is that? did they change how you do trade ins?

$670 for my M1 MBA, 8 Core GPU, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB. Paid $1500 7 months ago

Terrible. They didn't ask about RAM. I assume there's less for them to re-use with these Air models moving forward. They could probably refurbish and sell it for $1200.

I got more for my 16" 2016 MBP trade-in a few months ago.

My 2019 16" MBP fetched me $1430 on trade in. I CAN'T WAIT for this M1 Max MBP's!!!

Agreed. I'm keeping my M1 MBA. If it suits your current needs then why pay for overkill?

Same here. Would be fun to play around with a new M1 Max MBP. But I'm still stoked with my M1 MBA. No reason to update.

That said, a M1 Max Mac Mini with more ports would be an immediate purchase for X-Plane; especially now that version 12 is about to be released.

Convenience. Craigslist is full of idiots trying to scam or do some shady stuff. Some folks don't want to deal with the hassle and just want an easy transaction.

I dont see how you guys are finding the trade in options, it isn't giving me the option to even see Trade In's when going through the Checkout process
