I thought so too until I traded in my 11 Pro Max. It’s not Apple doing the trade ins, it’s a contractor. They have screwed up my trade in from the start and I’m still trying to get it sorted out. Never again. I’ll take my chances with a private sale from now on.

It's not a screw up but blatant fraud. Riddled with these Apple trade-in horror stories.

Maybe there are too many M1 iMacs in the refurb store?

Maybe it's that chin? :p
I ended up buying a 16’ With 32 Core Max 1TB

I’m using it for production/editing/coding/compiling/graphics-related processes.

And maybe gaming? (only an afterthought because Mac isn’t really a relevant desktop gaming platform yet).

What people really should consider is that for the first time ever, the MacBook Pro is a complete all in one line-up.

1. Promotion-Display XDR that matches the Pro Display XDR’s Color Fidelity and Contrast + 120hz. You can perform editing in High Color Fidelity Mastery without the need for a Pro Display XDR when you’re on the go.

2. A processor that outclasses almost all of the CPUs in any device + a lot of GPU computational power. I’m thankful for the investment in complete sustained performance at less power.

3. The 400GB/s IOthroughput + dedicated video encoding processor res make this laptop futureproof in terms of HDR and professional content processing.

This is what separates a MacBook Air from a a MacBook Pro. I feel crazy for what I paid for it actually feels worth it.

I am getting a trade-in offer of £590 on a five month old 13" M1 MBP costing £1249+£240 VAT in the UK. It is an insult. I got £250 for my seven year old 13" 11,1 MBP.

And the buyer has a full 6 months to file a PayPal dispute. Easier just to walk into an Apple store, hand it over, and be permanently done with the situation. DO NOT mail it in. It will go to Phobio (as Apple's trade-in partner), and you'll get screwed.
I used mail in and never had an issue. Got the full refund amount promised too.

Also my 2013 MBP (16GB, 512GB) trade in value is $340 now. It used to be like $200 last month??‍♂️ I’m happy with it because with all the eBay/Mercari fees, shipping, etc. I think I would only get close to $300ish in my pocket?

Now do I wait till back to school free AirPods are here again or…..

My M1 MBA, 8 core GPU, 1TB SSD & 16GB RAM is worth £540 trade in! So not sure this ’incentive’ is being offered in the UK. It was around £1600 new.

I’ll stick with the Air I think.
It seems you get a better deal if you have the base model. My base model m1 pro fetches the same value as the guy who has the m1 pro with 16GB. I went with the base model in July, and ever since August, I've been wishing I had bought the 16GB model. I may just do this trade-in

edit: nah. I've crunched the numbers. Maybe if I had bought this computer a year ago, or if I can get that same trade-in value a year from now. I don't think it's lost half its value so soon. I need to get a few more months out of it.

Apple is offering me $880 for M1 MBP 8GB 512GB which is quite reasonable considering I paid $1279 6 months ago given the cost of ebay seller fees. The opportunity to move up to 16/1TB and pay $135 spread out over 12 months is enticing and the performance boost is gravy. FYI, my 512 SSD is nearly full I've had a few instances where my M1 ran out of memory and I had to reboot, which probably wouldn't happen with 16gb memory on the M1 Pro. My main concern is that I love the Touchbar! Did they ask anyone before deciding to get rid of it?

same here. There have been quite a few times I've had to hold down that power button because I ran out of memory (8GB model). The most recent occasion was like 2 nights ago when I was in the middle of a FaceTime call. I'm not programming or doing blender or anything.

The only thing that's stopping me is that to get the 16GB model with 512GB SSD, with a discount from the trade-in, would cost me $844 more than if I had bought the right config in the first place. It's just ouch. I should have ignored the youtubers and redditors and went with my gut. I don't need the 512, but I should have gotten the 16.

I'll probably just wait it out and get the 2022 MacBook Pro 13 with the right amount of memory

i got $1210 for my slightly beat up 2019 MacBook Pro 16” base model, I’d say a great trade in value

i just purchased the newest Macbook Air last week so around Dec. 11, 2021, because the battery died on my 2014 Air. The strange thing is after the battery died on the 2014, it still would not turn on with just the AC power adapter. I have a 2010 macbook and the battery died on it a while back and that unit still turns on with an AC power adapter. I just figured why replace the battery on an almost eight year old computer. I just use it to stream videos on Youtube, Netflix, HBO/Crave, and other streaming sites. Anywho, I don't like how the 2020 Air doesnt have a Magsafe charging port or any ports for that reason lol except the Thunderbolt 4 and headphone jack. i read that APPLES releasing a newer 2022 Air which will have the Magsafe port back in business, anybody know what kind of trade in value i would get on the basic 2020 Air in mint condition towards the 2022 Air? I figure it'll be 6 months old from date of purchase by the time the 2022 Air is in stores.

Yea, I got nearly that for a 2018 in very good shape.

Hard to say, but judging by current trade in for a 2020 Air I’d guess 400 - 500$. I almost traded mine in on my M1 MBP but decided to get rid of my 2018 MBP instead because I got a higher trade in. I was keeping it to make it a Windows machine but will do that with a 2016 instead. The 2016 is in bad physical shape - dented lid and corner, screen glass replaced with cheap Chineses plexiglass knock off after its was damaged in a fall, so it has no resale value of note but should do fine as a Win11 box for occasional PowerBI work if Parallels / WinArm stops working.

Because it's simpler, quicker, and doesn't involve having to deal with potential scammers, like selling privately might. The good news for anyone who does sell privately is that the trade in give a hard floor price to your sale - nobody can really bid lower than the trade in value, can they?
Idk maybe he's probably the guy trying to scam/cop someone out of their M1 Macbook Air for less than $1000 lol.
