My 2017 iMac 5K got me $950 trade in. So I’m keeping my M1 MacBook Pro and trading that in for a 16 inch M1 Pro MacBook Pro…

Why would anyone ever use their trade-in service. A private sale would yield substantially more cash in hand, to put towards the replacement.
I use Apple trade-in for the convenience. I don't want to mess around with selling it myself for the amount of money involved.

$670 for my M1 MBA, 8 Core GPU, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB. Paid $1500 7 months ago

Terrible. They didn't ask about RAM. I assume there's less for them to re-use with these Air models moving forward. They could probably refurbish and sell it for $1200.

I got more for my 16" 2016 MBP trade-in a few months ago.
Wow! Apple trade-in offered me $620 for my base 8/8/256 M1 MBA. Only $50 less. I'm sticking with what I have. I was just curious about the trade-in value.

Trading in my M1 Mac Mini 8/16/2TB for $950 for the 16” Max. When I looked a few weeks ago at trade-in price it was only $650 or something so they definitely incentivized it for these new machines. Like others have said yeah I might be able to pull more from 3rd party seller but I find it a lot easier to not deal with haggling and shipping. Just easy to send it off in a prepaid box and get cash applied to your purchase.

My beloved M1 MacBook Pro 16gb 512gb being traded in for $885. I removed my eBay listing because in the end I’ll have to pay EBay for the sale, and pay for proper shipping.

Questions. What about Facebook market? Never tried but thinking about it to get a bit more at least.

what happens if I don’t go through with the Apple trade in I agreed too? Any extra fees?

Facebook Marketplace is a cesspool of people contacting you from hacked Facebook accounts. You’ll have to use your noggin’ to filter out the real people vs the bots. Since your MBP is the newer generation, you will probably get a decent amount of interest for it. I’ve been trying to sell my late 2016 MBP for the longest time and get so many lowball offers that I’m just going to trade it into Apple for the convenience.

If you don’t go through the Apple trade-in, you won’t get the credit. They won’t ding you for failure to ship your device as they didn’t deduct the amount from your invoice proactively.

FWIW, Apple offered $610 for my late 2016 tbMBP - 256 GB / 16 GB RAM / 2.6 GHZ i7 / Radeon 460 config.

they are offering me $1770 for my 2019 16" 2TB/32GB/i9 2.4 pretty loaded up.

lowball but expected a 60% drop no different than trading in a car so I'll sell privately and be happy for $2000 with transfer of AppleCare.

I am drooling over the same 2tb/32GB Max 16" and looks like retail is LESS than my 2019 16" was...

I'm in a big city (take a guess from my flair) and I just sell on Craigslist for a cash in-person deal. But I also only sell my stuff when it is much older. So my deals are measured in a couple of hundred dollars. Sold a bunch of stuff over the years and never had a problem (though met one sketch dude for a phone sale once, not dangerous sketch, but just a weird guy). Would I be comfortable with an in person sale for a $1,000 for a recent laptop? Hmm, not sure. Though I've sold a car in person for nearly $4,000 in cash. So I guess I'd be comfortable with something sizable for a good laptop.

Same here. Would be fun to play around with a new M1 Max MBP. But I'm still stoked with my M1 MBA. No reason to update.

That said, a M1 Max Mac Mini with more ports would be an immediate purchase for X-Plane; especially now that version 12 is about to be released.
Sure didn’t want to tempt some getting mini instead of notebook even though normally different types of buyers.

I dont see how you guys are finding the trade in options, it isn't giving me the option to even see Trade In's when going through the Checkout process
The trade in button is hard to see with colors. It’s on the page that select different pre configured devices.

I will format my macbook pro today and bring it into the apple store at the end of the week..I have the 2018 macbook pro apple is offering 540 for it not ideal but considering its a three year old computer I guess its the best I can do..two questions..when I format, that NVAM thing, the pressing of the keys when it boots up is that necessary to do, I read its something to do with wiping memory from the system, looks kind of hard to do I looked on youtube and no one does it when they format, they just remove themselves from itunes, imessage, icloud, and then format, they dont do that additional step so was not sure if it was necessary
I am going to bring it to them already fully formatted they can just power it on and go to a few of the setup steps to see that its running perfect

Sorry I j just have to say... "M1 Max Mac Mini" is quite the mouthful. I'm sitting here repeating it over and over and can't stop!

Convenience. Craigslist is full of idiots trying to scam or do some shady stuff. Some folks don't want to deal with the hassle and just want an easy transaction.
In my case (a 2018 15" MBP), I got more on trade ($1,120) than they go for on eBay or locally because the 2018 is known to have a horribly unreliable keyboard. I've never had an issue, but I know it's a time bomb so I'm trading it in.

This x 1000.

eBay will always side with the buyer so it is very easy to get scammed there.
And the buyer has a full 6 months to file a PayPal dispute. Easier just to walk into an Apple store, hand it over, and be permanently done with the situation. DO NOT mail it in. It will go to Phobio (as Apple's trade-in partner), and you'll get screwed.

My M1 MBA, 8 core GPU, 1TB SSD & 16GB RAM is worth £540 trade in! So not sure this ’incentive’ is being offered in the UK. It was around £1600 new.

I’ll stick with the Air I think.
I'm in the exact same situation - I got £310 for my 2015 MacBook Pro when I got the new MBA so the trade in values have definitely plummeted in the UK...

I've sold several iPhones, a Macbook and other items on Craigslist. Usually its moms that show up in a used minivan that buy my stuff lol. Not exactly hardened professional criminals. But ya it does take extra work and some hassle for sure

Go to this link https://www.apple.com/shop/trade-in then scroll down about half way where it says "Trade in and get Apple Gift Card credit — even without a purchase."

Only giving half of what I paid for a mint MBA M1 16GB/256GB so I'll just keep it as a spare Chromebook.

Wow I am shocked that Apple would even offer $100 for my 2012 2.3ghz i7 Mac Mini.
I paid $600 for it from Apple Refurb 7 years ago.

I should just trade it in for future credit before Apple offers to recycle it for free.
It’s collecting dust in my closet anyways.

also interesting they would offer $220 for my 10.5” iPad Pro. 🤔

Trade in values seem to be decent. But one could easily get much more selling outside. Only thing, the trade in using apple will be very easy and convenient.

Because it's simpler, quicker, and doesn't involve having to deal with potential scammers, like selling privately might. The good news for anyone who does sell privately is that the trade in give a hard floor price to your sale - nobody can really bid lower than the trade in value, can they?
I thought so too until I traded in my 11 Pro Max. It’s not Apple doing the trade ins, it’s a contractor. They have screwed up my trade in from the start and I’m still trying to get it sorted out. Never again. I’ll take my chances with a private sale from now on.
