Koodo, a Telus flanker here in Canada, offer Apple TV+ for half price as a thanks for being a subscriber. TBH, not sure I'd keep the subscription at full price.

They are in a no win situation. Anyone with half a brain will toggle on their subscription for a month, binge watch Foundation and then cancel. They will eventually be forced to drop monthly subscriptions entirely.
They released severance one week at a time. Then made sure to give commercial spoilers so if you tried to subscribe at the end they spoiled it for you.

Apple TV+ does not have the breadth and depth of content that’s worth subscribing to. It didn’t 2 years ago, and it still doesn’t.

I dropped Binge, Paramount and a couple of others for the same reason

Currently have Netflix, Prime and Disney. 3 is enough.
Yep, we have disney/hulu which we watch most, prime because of shipping (but we pay for ad free), and hbomax because we got a huge discount.

ATV+ should do what Amazon does, which is offer some non-original movies and shows for free for a while then, swap them for others. Prime has value because of that. It makes us keep checking back to see what’s “new.” And it adds perceived value. I just hope we get through Moonlighting before their broadcast contract runs out.

Amazon also gives a few digital rewards for delayed shipping options that add up to occasional free rentals.

Lots of comments...
But does this work for current users, to cancel and signup again for that lower price for 2 months?

Just wondering if anyone can confirm that they canceled and then were given the offer?

Strangely Apple used to do that, have like some movies on for free that would rotate out but stopped doing it. No idea why they stopped.

For me the best shows on Apple + are Defending Jacob and the Presumed Innocent but they are just one offs.

Apple TV + generally has ok to great thing but just not enough to justify its price which is a huge fundamental problem. The value is just not there.

Unbelievable practice. I expect it from other providers but not Apple.

Can you imagine them saying “Tell you what, you have that Mac Pro half price” if I threatened to switch to Windows?

It is not half price once put a multiple month scope on this.

2x $5.99 + 10x $12.99 ( $141.88 ) is greater than 12 x $9.99 ( 119.88 ) .

This is 'discount' is easily made up over the back-end of a 12 month span. It is a $3 increase and the discount is only $8 total (presuming don't constantly re-issue). In 3 months, they make that back ($9) . In 12, they have substantially more. (Actors and Writer strike was for more money out of streaming. The costs are up. Users costs are up so incrementally more folks will drop out, but shows don't get cheaper. )

The price increase calculations probably included increase 'marketing budget' which this 2 month discount will probably be charged to. Likewise the 'free Apple TV+' for n months after buying an Apple TV device (or iPhone or .. ). Same marketing charge back to the subscription base price pool generated.

With $99/year holding steady, that is the bigger discount option. More regular income for Apple so can invest in 10-12 month projects with 'known' dollars.

For a Mac Pro analogy it would be the price on a lease. 2months discount on a 2 year lease is more what they are shooting for.

AppleTV+ seems to have a "Fall rollout" sesaon roughly aligned with the TV Fall roll out. If they are still offering the two month thing in January then it is more of a problematic churn compensation thing. For now though, I think they are somewhat gambling they may have a new 'programming' that might keep folks after that 2 months.

Good to see this. While other companies often do this while trying to cancel a subscription, did not expect Apple to give such an offer. Some might retain their subscriptions due to this.

They give you $12 once so you can give them $12 a month. How generous!

The one streaming service I won’t cancel. The rest are raising prices like crazy and content is not that great. At least Apple is releasing quality tv shows and movies.

Good way to make people not want to buy at that price
I just looked up the cost for it in the UK and its £9.99. When you consider the basic Netflix package with ads starts at £5.99, I think it really demonstrates that Apple is seriously out of touch with their market.

Reminds me vaguely of their arrogance with the HomePod. They sat around for 2-3 years watching smart speaker/home assistant products from Google and Amazon gain market traction, then released a vastly more expensive version that was restricted to only accessing Apple services. They had to react to that situation too and it felt far too late.

And let’s face it if people want to watch Apple TV there’s other options to get certain shows.

Imagine asking someone to preload 3 years of subscription just to watch a show.
Quick profit at its finest.

Money grabbing tossers, if they can afford to offer it for 50% off for two months, then they can afford to not increase the price. And that goes for all steaming services.
Super greedy managers and producers demanding $1.5m pay per year is the major reason why budget on movies and TV shows keep going up and up, and streaming price goes up as a result.
