After I started subscribing Apple One+ I could not find any new content in the Apple TV+ Same old content for the last 6-8 months. All big shows are over.

So tired of Services-over-products Apple

I hope whoever eventually replaces Tim Cook at least tries to go back to what made Apple feel different

Like, I’m not saying Apple was ever a charity or anything stupid like that but it always felt like their way of making money was charging premium on the best products they could make

Now they just charge premium for the same product they were already making and try to sell you subscriptions on top of that

iCloud was all we needed, a subscription service that complements the product you bought and makes the OS better

I don’t even really like Apple Music, yeah I’m subscribed cause it’s a good deal but it feels like a betrayal of what iTunes always stood for, the only marketplace that let you own your music - now it’s just another douchebag streaming services that pays Pennies to musicians and randomly removes your songs because the record labels got more money from a competitor or whatever

Apple TV is so like, whatever… yeah I liked Ted Lasso and I really liked Severance and I’m glad those shows have a platform to call their home but I would have been just as happy renting or even buying them off iTunes
These streaming services are so unsustainable and just rely on you paying the monthly subscription during “content draughts” so they can hopefully try to make back some money on these ridiculous investments on shows, oh excuse me, “content”

And don’t get me started on fitness+ and news+, absolute joke with the latter not even available overseas because it’s just some dumbass deal with select US publications so that you can read their articles without using their horrendous websites

Oh I almost forgot Apple Arcade lmao, yeah how’d you like to play basic mobile that are designed to run on the weakest iPhone so they’ll never look impressive and are still for the most part designed to be played on a touch screen so they’re shallow as a puddle?
Sure you can get all time classics like angry birds and fry it ninja, in case you haven’t played these to death altrady

The only decent game in the lineup is probably Balatro and you’d be better off buying that separately for 10 dollars like you can on Android

I dunno, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if it didn’t feel like other parts of the Apple pipeline are being neglected to push this services *********, every earnings call they put services front and center because that’s all that matters, consistent reliable revenue stream to keep the shareholders happy

Whatever happened to the Apple that released the iPod hi-fi, something nobody but Steve wanted
I seriously doubt the focus research on that one told them it was gonna be a hit and they still pushed it out the door just because it’s something they were passionate about

I guess the closest thing we got is the Apple Vision Pro, a half assed attempt to create a new paradigm of computing that also doubles as a premium device struggling to justify its existence and is snubbed by every single “content platform” that should have jumped at the chance to be the first to offer a native viewing experience
An expensive product that I’m sure is nice and all but requires such a huge commitment to use and some people are even physically unable to use for prolonged periods of time

Apple Silicon is probably the only really massively good thing that’s come out from Apple post Steve and thank god for that because I can’t imagine how janky software would pair up with subpar hardware

Tim doesn’t even look like he’s enjoying being the CEO, he looks absolutely miserable for the five minutes he’s on set before passing the ball to another exec who’s got three times the amount of passion and energy

He goes around giving these interviews where he says absolutely nothing and makes Apple look like another ******* tech company that doesn’t deliver anything but will gladly talk to you for hours about it

But oh that bottom line is looking mighty fine to the investors so we’re stuck with this until Tim decides he’s done with Apple

Idk Man, Apple is not doomed, but it sure as **** is boring now

Lame? Apple TV plus is one of the most premium streamers around. The pretty much taken HBO maxs crown. Their only issue is they are still young and there’s not enough content to keep people long term. But this is similar for most streamers. They his pad their offerings with cheap banal content.
You think Apple TV+ is better than HBO? Surely you jest! 🤣

I'm so done with streaming. I get HBO for free but only use it for Bill Maher & John Oliver - I would never rewatch Sopranos via streaming service, only my own pirated BD rips. I pirated all of Carlin's specials last night - idk where to find them on streaming and if I found them, there's a good chance the 4:3 aspect ratio will have been cropped to 16:9 and zoomed. Most streaming is a doom scroll through stuff I've never heard of. It's not 1993 when "everyone" saw Jurassic Park - I can't remember any recent movies being pumped up big time besides Oppenheimer and Barbie and that was two summers ago. I can't remember having FOMO over a movie or TV show in so long.
Go to justwatch.com and see just how much content is not available for streaming.

It’s crazy that every studio now has a streaming service or a streaming outlet contract with a service yet they all hold back some or most of their catalogues.

We had Apple TV+, Disney+ and Netflix simultaneously for a while. We got Disney+ at a serious discount for a year when it was introduced in Belgium. We didn’t renew after that year. We also had Apple TV+ for a while. Slow Horses, Foundation, Sugar, Invasion, For all mankind, Silo … plenty of good stuff on there.

At some point we got through those and stopped Apple TV+, for quite a while. Now, with the release of Foundation S3, Slow Horses S4 and (less so) Invasion S3 we’ve activated it again. In a few weeks we’ll probably cancel it again, unless there is overlap with Slow Horses S5, Silo S3 or For all mankind S5.

The only one we keep all the time is Netflix. We always find something good on Netflix.

Just use streaming services the way they’re meant to be used. Turn them on when you want to watch something, turn them off when you’ve watched it. Streaming services aren’t Pokemons: you don’t need to have them all!

So watching the new seasons of Silo and Mankind will cost us $13 instead of $10. Those 2 shows are 20 episodes times 45 minutes per episode = 900 minutes. That $13 cost spread over 900 minutes means we’re paying little over one cent per minute for quality content. Plus: if you time it right then you can get a lot more bang for your buck for that $13.

There is no cheaper hobby with that kind of quality.

The only thing I don’t get is the Severance hype.

Maybe make big improvements on Content. I recently canceled because there just wasn't enough stuff I liked. And not paying $9.99...looks like $12.99 now a month for only one or two movies or shows. They do occasionally have something I like a lot. But they're few and far between. I enjoyed The Gorge.

In what way? Heck, what does this even mean? Too pc???

Maybe I shouldn't speak for Silmari, but I have pretty similar views on the content.

All Apple shows are extremely shallow, corporate-driven productions, designed to be easily consumed like white noise.
Their number 1 priority is to never create bad PR because that clashes with Tim Apple's desire for a stock market-pleasing steady revenue stream.

Everything just meanders in the background without enriching the cultural zeitgeist.
Even when adapting a book that arguably had something to say (All Systems Red), the managed to make it as bland as possible. Everything is just lowest common denominator stuff, with a focus on American sensibilities in terms of story structure and content.

No amount of aging Hollywood stars and expensive camera equipment is gonna to fix such productions without care, without edges, without love, without any kind of humanity.
It's all just sterile and corporate.

I live in the UK. When I was a kid, I remember the same computer game on the CBM64 was a couple pounds more expensive than the ZX Spectrum version. The thinking was "You've bought a more expensive machine, so we can charge you more money". I really don't think that Apple feel like they compete with other vendors on price, as their devices don't compete either. And because you've chosen Apple, then 'You can afford it'.

I cancelled my Apple+ subscription in June this year, after many years of subscribing.

People will do what they’ll do. I cancel whatever I don’t use. AppleTV+ has many of my top series and has great kids content so $99 a year works perfectly for me. Others in my household use it. It’s a great option.

Getting $6 instead of $0 from someone leaving is more cash in Apple’s pocket.

If you don’t watch anything on it, it’s worth zero to you.

I have Apple One+ family plan so the kids and I get Apple Music. I don't even watch Apple TV except for the latest baseball games but apparently that is going away.

Still need to watch Foundations and maybe Silo. Can't really think of anything else. Ted Lasso is comedy, which I'm not into, but I'm ok with others watching it.

Honestly, with my stage in life and lack of time for tv watching, it makes sense for me to pick one or two services here and there and catch up on what I actually want to watch. I certainly don't need several.

After the two months... here comes the forklift.

Never had it and won't ever subscribe.

Yeah, it wasn't for my mobile carrier providing certain services at no charge ( Netflix, ATV+ ), I wouldn't pay for it out of pocket. And, before someone chimes in with ' you are paying for it with your mobile service monthly bill ', I'm not. With certain work, carrier provided, and networking related discounts, my mobile monthly bill is pretty decent :)

a 2 month discount isn't going to stop the bleeding. Discount the rate permanently and Apple might see more retention.

It looks like the price hike is aimed at addressing the matter of retention.

Only the monthly plan is getting the price hike. My guess is that Apple would like people to pay for either the annual plan, or their Apple One plan instead, where churn is far less likely.

As for users who are subscribing for a month at a time to binge new content, the price hike should offset revenue lost this way.

Sounds like a plan.

This might keep folks around for two more months but as soon as the price goes up they’ll cancel.

Price might be justified if they carried all things F1. But that won’t be until 2026?!
Heck, we got a few months before the F1 movie is on Apple TV! So, why did they do a price increase to only discount it without any extra content? 🤦🏽‍♂️

I was offered to use this for free. When browsing around picking a movie, it told me I needed to pay additional fees. So you need to subscribe and oay for every movie to watch.
Sounds like you were browsing in the home screen of the Apple TV app, which also lists/recommends content from the Store.

You need to go into the separate tab for "Apple TV+" within the Apple TV app - there's a difference between the TV app and TV+ (the subscription service). You don't need to buy anything extra on TV+. The TV app itself is kind of just a hub that you can link all your other streaming services to, and it'll let you continue watching or see when new episodes are released, etc. I tend to just go directly to the streaming apps I use, but it can be useful if you're juggling a bunch of shows at once and can't remember when everything airs.

I do this with NYT and WaPo, kinda. Cancel subscription. Wait for offers to roll in. Resubscribe. Repeat.

Right now I’m paying $48 for a year of NYT.

Wish FT did this. WSJ does but their opinion page is loony tunes.

EDIT: save the big subscription cash outlays for small mags, blogs, and newsletters that really can use top $$$.
