Twentieth Century Macintosh Similar to say the least!

Blast from the pre-jobs past!

The new Mac Pro is really bad ass! But, it is not cheap to move all your internal drives external.

I wish they would have used the old design. I see no room for expanding hard drive space and I'm curious if the GPU will be upgradable.

You can have a giant empty box sit on your desktop always occupying/consuming that potential "expansion space" or eliminate that wasted cavity, have a sexy minimalist desktop PC and externally upgrade it all you want.

Question:

How you define "a professional"? Being "a professional" is a description others give of you; if you say "Hey, I'mmm a PRO_FESHHHIONAL" to describe yourself, you have an ego the size of Africa, and I very much doubt you are one.

A true professional knows it's unprofessional to show off about one's perceived skills. Keep your mouth closed, work to the best of your abilities, and be blessed with the adoration that OTHERS give you - you have no right to be seen as one.

Want ...nowwwwww!!!!!!!!

I am curious though... Black plastic? Is that really plastic? Please be not plastic. The cylinder form factor was an odd choice. The GPU question that remains is whille I be able to upgrade it? I wonder if external thunderbolt GPU's are in the pipeline? I know sonnett puts out a pretty heavy duty TB external gpu system.

It has a layer of gloss on top of it( cause it looks to have that shine to it). I don't know of any metal computers that have a layer of gloss on it.....

Apple is a premium company. They make premium products using premium materials. Unless it is carbon fiber, using cheap plastic is not premium. The only exception being is the upcoming low cost iPhone.... But, plastic on a $2500 machine? No excuse......

I'm sure you are not trolling and are just misinformed. This is not plastic. It is Metal. I'm certain that you just didn't know that the details are on the Apple Website. "Refined impact extrusion technologies are more material-efficient and give the polished aluminum enclosure its incredible shape and finish".

I'm really fatigued by the constant negativity. I'm not suggesting we all follow blindly but there's gotta be some positive support in the mix. It's just too easy to constantly poopoo every effort.

I think the new Mac Pro looks pretty good. We will know more in the coming months once final specs are released, the hardware ships, and Thunderbolt 2 expansion options are available.

The one thing I was hoping for is a decent way to rack the new Mac Pro. I am sure someone will come up with something that will work, but the form factor doesn't seem too user friendly for a rack. Perhaps Sonnet will figure out something cool.

No dual CPU's means this is not a PRO machine it's a prosumer machine. Also AMD graphics, really? No Quadro no GTX options makes this DOA for many professionals and even many gamers. Fu** Apple, seriously?

HP Z820 I choose you!

I've always loved the old design but this is pretty smart in terms of thermal regulation.

Looks just like a UPS, with more functionality.

Why would you want to plug in power at the front ? No one does that..

? I'm pretty sure that's the back..

You have it backwards. Apple needs to offer a machine with 'Pro' in the name so that a bunch of neckbeards can feel like hotshots when they buy it.

Ok. How does the 3 internal HD that I have inside of my MP gonna work in this tube? Guess all data on those 3 HDs are now useless?

Easy, you stick it into an external Thunderbolt enclosure if you really want to keep using them.

And too much of a gimmick...

This is a rather large extended middle finger to the 'pro' customer...

It looks more like a toy than an earth shaking computer, and 'all' of the extensions are to be external? Yeah, that will go over well... :(

I guess I'd be more impressed if it was black machined aluminum, with slots, but this doesn't impress me. 'Cute' only goes so far...

Wow, you seem awfully certain of yourself for not having all of the information about a "sneak peak" of a product.

Huh, all of the benchmarks in Solidworks, AutoCAD, Maya, show the AMD graphics blowing the Nvidia graphics out of the water.

Games? LOL, why would you buy it to play games.

Not plastic.

Refined impact extrusion technologies are more material-efficient and give the polished aluminum enclosure its incredible shape and finish.

I don't need a Mac Pro but I'm happy that Apple has not discontinued it. The look of the machine is a bit hate or love it, but I guess that black aluminium will look cool when seen live.

THEY HAVE DISCONTINUED IT !!!!
this new machine is crap for half pros.
extensions will make even simple storage much more expensive. internal 3tb for $150? forget it.
and other things like professional GPU rendering with multiple titans is probably impossible.
i really wish they would license another company to make usable hardware :(
as it is i fear my next workstation will be a pc
oh man, how much i hate them for it !!!!

Now you can go and copy/paste your rant on Reddit :p

what a bunch of whiner drama queens!

when I read about how (boohoo) "my ancient old hard drives won't plug into it so now I have to copy data" or "they didn't make exactly the device shape I fantasized about while in bed last night" I wanna shake my head and laugh!

brand new bleeding edge 12 core processors, somebody's complaining that it doesn't have enough juice?

so much whining about "expandability", when this is the *ultimate* in expandability. so many posters have NOT been paying attention to Thunderbolt and external SSD tech lately! (swing by barefeats.com). and you're saving 75 PERCENT of your desktop space here with this device.....picture it....fill that space with STORAGE, breakfast cereal, etc. jeez. it's fantastic and you're ridiculous.

here's what's gonna happen:
-it's gonna be relatively affordable.
-drive chassis will come in all shapes and sizes, and you'll like it.

I think it looks pretty awesome! It's a weird yet refreshing design too, something I can say I haven't seen anything like before. I'm interested to know how the external expandability will work.

I will do the thing I never did b4 , Hackintosh.

and you did not give an easy answer. I need a Mac workstation. they destroyed it.

Yes, you're right. I was being a little flippant, and I apologize.

I wish you luck with making your Hackintosh workstation.

(It wouldn't work for me since the only reason I'd go with the workstation would be for the stability (of Xeon processors and workstation-class graphics) and I've never had a Hacked machine I'd trust with that but that's just me).

Up to 12.

Some of you people really need to go to Apple's website and look at the darn thing.

"The new Mac Pro is muscle through and through, starting with the new-generation Intel Xeon E5 chipset. With configurations offering up to 12 cores of processing power, up to 40GB/s of PCI Express gen 3 bandwidth, and 256-bit-wide floating-point instructions, you’ll never be at a loss for speed."
I take you don't know the difference between a processor and a core? What's wrong with wanting 24 cores, plus whatever GPUs I have access to? :D

We love that you provide such predictable entertainment - the fact that you put your "hatred" into words is hilarious. I guess you won't want one if I buy you one, then? :p

To all those complaining about external storage... go to Wikipedia, and type in "[ bandwidth ]", then come back when you've read EVERYTHING. If you want a hard limit of 6Gbps, complain to Tim Cook - I'm sure he'll listen to your backward thinking :p
