You're missing the point though...you have a full-time job and probably get paid a fairly good amount. Not to mention your wife probably also works and earns a salary. A student on the other hand either has no time to work, or has to work to try to pay off his or her loans/school bills. I know for me when I was in college, I didn't have time to get a job because I had practice in the AM before classes, and practice in the PM after classes, then I would eat dinner and then go back to my dorm and do homework...so I didn't really have time to get job, sorry.

So for you to compare yourself to a student isn't really relevant.

No, the point is you don't have to be a student to be short on cash.... people out in the 'real world' also have cash flow issues, just becuase I have a job doesn't mean I can instantly afford anything. I get paid ok but nothing wonderful, my wife does not work and i have two children. We mostly live from paycheck to paycheck, and so $129 for the new OS is a big deal to me it is more than I can afford all at once and so I will need to save up to get it. My point is, I am perfectly ok with paying $129 even though I can't afford it, I think it's a wonderful price and I don't think I or any one else deserves a discount from Apple just becuase of their personal financial situation wether they are a student or otherwise.

I agree with tmoney468. Edu prices are set for the purpose of gaining users as well as aiding in costs. Also, it is good to note that they offer edu price to educators and government officials as well. The purpose here, again, isn't just finical but also to build a user group and they want college students because most likely they will carry on into their adult life with the os.

All that said, it is important to note that amazon is offering a better deal then the edu price so I don't see the point to this argument.

there may be a better deal on amazon..but theres still people crying its not cheap enough.

No one is saying that they, or anyone, is required to upgrade. So I don't see it being an issue... yet at the same time, I am not defending Apple's price. I also believe that offering edu pricing is a good thing. People will cry regardless, yet others will see it as being a good deal, it is all subjective.

Well said, many people have financial obligations that restrict them from spending money on extras and toys. It's not just limited to students. Tiger is a great OS. I beg to differ that a starving student needs features in Leopard to get through school. It's only a want, not a need.

Eaxactly.... I don't need Leopard either, and I know I won't be able to afford it the day it comes out but I want it and I'll eventually get it once I have enough money saved.

I'm a student and have just purchased Leopard, iLife '08 and iWork '08 from the Apple Store UK. I had no hesitation in purchasing them and got a nice discount :)

£50 exc. VAT. No I went into a chat session with on Apple Store and woman added discounted items to a basket which I then checked out with. So if you aren't on campus you can do that to buy your discounted stuff.

When will Leopard Ship?

If we order Leopard from Apple, will it ship on Friday, or will we receive it on Friday?

Well I officially pre-ordered this today. Says it delivers on the 26th even with my free shipping (gotta love free shipping).

I LOVE the fact that the OS is beyond cheap! After wasting almost 500 on vista ultimate, it is a breath of fresh air to only pay 137 after taxes!

This looks very promising as well. Can't wait.

Minimum Requirements for Leopard

I have just noticed that the 'megahertz' limitation probably doesnt apply to dual-core G4 systems. If you have a look at this page:

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306687

It says that a Dual G4 at 800MHz suffices to initiate a 10-person audio conference.

1) To initiate one must obviously have a copy of Leopard. Therefore it WILL install on Dual 800MHZ G4 systems.

2) This may mean that the megahertz limitation doesnt apply to dual-core G4 systems.

3) The requirement seems to be equated to a 1GHz single core G4. Therefore it seems that probably one may be able to run leopard on systems with slower, dual core processors.

Logged on this morning to start a pre-Leopard backup going while I'm at work and noticed I'd got a shipped e-mail for Leopard in my in-box! Woo Hoo!!! :p

The delivery estimate is 26 October but this looks good for people like me in the UK who thought we *might* have to wait until Monday. Who knows it may even arrive today!!! (Thursday) but Friday is good enough for me :)

It's almost a shame I'm out on the beers on Friday night and won't get to install until Saturday while I'm recovering.

Mine shipped today. It's in Illinois, with a scheduled delivery date of tomorrow. Looks like I'll be doing some backing up tonight, so I'll be ready to install it tomorrow. :)
