One of my friend is going to the US to visit a friend next week. I'll purchase Leopard on amazon at $109 and have it delivered at his friend's place. That's
76.68€. If I'd have bought it in France, I would have paid 129€ !!! That's over 40% off !!!
Yeah, but if you include the airfare in the price ... ;)

Coming back to Dictionary.app,
I'd love them to add Korean dictionaries as well, but I guess that might take a while.
I've heard the rumor that the format for Dictionary.app is now open,
so let's hope someone write a converter from other formats to the one
Dictionary.app understands. I already have quite a few digital dictionaries,
and it's cumbersome to use two dictionary apps !

I just got word that my department at my University in which I work is getting Leopard to test before installing it. I'm already beginning to work my way into helping out with it so that I can get a copy...

You gotta love students with a Macbook pro and Photoshop CS3 complaining about $40. And half act like they're so impoverished that they stand in lines waiting for bread or something. If that's the case buying an operating system shouldn't even be a consideration. I think it sounds kind of odd for the typical student to be buying an operation system anyway. Tiger is grrrreat! And will do fine for your needs.

Apple's greed is changing my opinion and loyalty to them... usr since '92 - they always 'came through' for me in the past - now it seems they just want to 'stick it to us'

Example: iphone initial price..

The thing is you'll have to understand that times have changed and Apple is no different than any other company trying to branch out. I've been a Mac user as well since Mac OS 8.5 and I remember when Apple was struggling to bring the Mac back. Companies that are small will always go out of their way to please their customers to keep business.
Apple is now like Microsoft (but still in a good way), they are now a big company and you have to admit that Apple is now the king of multimedia. Sony gave up the throne. Apple makes multimedia fun but you can't expect them to stay without profit as they are no longer a small company.

Enjoy the fact that Apple still trusts their customers in a way where Leopard won't require activation or serializing or having to call Apple to get permission to reinstall OS X if you need to reformat or requiring you call Apple to transfer the license to another computer. So just realize that Apple is overall still a cool company.

I agree. But think about the fact that most of this stuff (software and/or hardware) is probably required and may be covered by Grants, or loans. I have been out of college for 12 years now...but I can remember when $40 was a HUGE deal...and I didn't have a computer back then (only engineering students had computers and they were those old boxy macs).

How nice of Apple to out a £20 ($40) premium on top for UK customers :(

no, they're just being fair, some time ago it was $2000 for a powerbook in the US and 2299€ in europe, now they make $=€, and btw they still make 30% more profit

its the same with the iphone $399=399€?????? i have to talk to my bank maybe they exchange $ for € also on a 1:1 basis? ;)

It's not just Apple, all computers, software and other electronics are more expensive in Europe... often the $ sign is just changed to a £ sign in the UK so something that costs say $100 becomes £100 which converts back as almost $200... it's always been that way, I am from the UK and we always had to deal with higher prices on everything there, I've been in the US for the past 10 years and there's a big difference across the board, certainly not just something Apple is doing

Apple doesnt find SN

Purchased MacPro on Oct 6 tried Leopard up to date tryed to verify and they say they cant find SN now what.

I had the same problem, so I am not sure whether it will need to be mailed in or something else.

Look what else came out for pre-order...

Exactly. My university requires a Mac laptop, so they include that in the tuition price so you can use loans/grants/aide/scholarships towards the purchase.

And lets be honest... *lots* of college students who have CS3 or FCP probably didn't pay for it... ;)

EDIT: For the record, I'm upset they upped the price, for sure. I'm attending college entirely on my own tab, AND have a $300 car payment on top of other bills that I have to work continuously to pay for.. Nevertheless, I'm not pissed at Apple. Just means I may not be able to get it the day it comes out... Maybe a Christmas present?

I have a question that I know is probably lame, but I am a newbie...

Anyway, I was planning to buy a new MacBook when Leopard came out. Now that I have been reading this thread I am wondering...would it be better to just get the MB now and then upgrade for $10 later, or wait the few weeks and get the MB with Leopard preinstalled. I am not real tech savvy, so I'm not sure what to think about possible bugs or if I should be worried about system stability??

Thanks for any help with this. :)

I think the better question is whether you want to wait for the next MacBook update or not, but we don't know exactly when it'll be. If you're going to buy now, I'd probably spend the $10 on Leopard and then you'll have Tiger if you want to run that for a little while. But I wouldn't worry too much about running Leopard only when it comes out.

Same here going to get Leopard at work to do all the testing. Really excited about it though :)

im from australia and just saw the announcement last night... SO PUMPED!
just pre-ordered the single user. IF it comes to my doorstep (australia) on october 26th ill be at uni so ill probably miss the fedex guy. so ill have to go to the post office at the airport to pick it up. unless someone else whos home can sign for it? can you do that?

i reckon im just gonna do an upgrade first so i can play around with leopard in maximum fastness. ill clone my system before the upgrade and do i proper erase and install later on... i just wanna play around with it first and get my first TM backup done.

heres the leopard countdown on my dashboard in tiger... webclip style
