is God really started out???

edit: that would of been funny

Yes, Jewish people don't write the word God as they are superstitious about it. I'm not Jewish btw, just something I was told by a friend who is.

Now, the real question is if Apple is going to leave broken iWork.com buttons/integration in its iWork apps for Mac and iOS.

I guess there will be an update OR a new version coming out soon???

No, it's either the iPhone 5 or the iPhone. Apple never calls anything "The New (product)", and the 3rd gen iPad was just called "iPad".

Ugh, I'm sorry to do this but I just can't stand when people are so sure of somethings that is so illogical... give me ONE logical reason why you think the next iPhone will be called iPhone 5. Just one. Here is my logical reason why it absolutely will NOT be called iPhone 5:

First iPhone: Officially named "iPhone" running iPhone iOS 1.xx
Second iPhone: Officially named "iPhone 3G" (due to the new 3G chip) iOS 2.xx
Third iPhone: Officially named "iPhone 3GS" (due to the added speed bump) iOS 3.xx
Fourth iPhone: Officially named "iPhone 4" (due to being the fourth iPhone) iOS 4.xx
Fifth iPhone: Officially named "iPhone 4S" (due to speed bump/Siri) iOS 5.xx
Sixth iPhone: Officially named "iPhone 6" (due to being the sixth iPhone and running iOS 6.xx) or ? But it will NOT be called the iPhone 5 as there is absolutely not one single reason AT ALL for it to be labeled "5". I'll wager you and anyone else thousands of dollars on it!

So again, you people are saying that the 6th generation iPhone that will be running iOS 6 will be called iPhone 5!? And your logic for this is what exactly?

Marketing logic, why wasn't the 4s called 5? It came with ios5 and was 5th

Marketing logic, why wasn't the 4s called 5? It came with ios5 and was 5th

Exactly what I was saying. iPhone 4S was not called iPhone 5 because it was a speed bump to the iPhone 4; just like the iPhone 3G was not called the "iPhone 2" and the iPhone 3GS was a speed bump to the 3G. But again, what logic would there be to calling the sixth iPhone running iOS 6 "iPhone 5"? It's either going to be "iPhone 6" or if there is some new technology to market, the "iPhone watchamacallit" (or probably just the "the new iPhone" like they did with the iPad 3) but NOT going backwards to iPhone 5! Just. makes. no. sense.

Playing devil's advocate, how about because in our numbering system 5 comes immediately after 4? The "S" addition (3GS, 4S), is not seen as completely new phone, but a modification of the previous (3G, 4). It's the same in software...v1.5 may be the second release of v1.0, and the third version isn't v3.0, it's v2.0.

My opinion, it won't be the iPhone 6 because there wasn't an iPhone 5. It'll be the new iPhone.

And don't leave out the marketing avoidance of "666". Even P&G had some troubles with their "moon" logo because some people thought that some of the curls in the "hair" were those 3 numbers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Procter_&_Gamble#Logo_controversy. Can you imagine if Apple rolled out such a mainstream device as a iPhone that could be connected with that number? Can you imagine the cheerleaders here having to rally all over the internet for the next year to take on "mark of the beast" comments?

If it's not iPhone 5, I bet they jump on to 7 or just go "iPhone".

Watch carefully, and observe what is happening here.

Be a custodian of your own data. Do not trust "the cloud" as anything more than a temporary storage location.

I wonder if there's a way to configure Time Machine to backup iCloud along with everything else?

Not that it will for sure be named iPhone 6, just that it will for sure NOT be named iPhone 5 (unless there is some new technology for them to market that happens to have the number 5 in it, like a 5G chip we are unaware of, then it will be the iPhone 5G just like the second iPhone was the "iPhone 3G".) Why is this so hard for people to wrap their heads around!?

why wouldn't they just automatically transfer everything they could to iCloud?
Deleting the entire account seems a bit harsh.

NOOOOOOOOOOOO I'VE LOST CRITICAL FILES! I HAD NO IDEA!@ :(

(/sarcasm)

lol! thanks for the /sarcasm... it's amazing that people on these threads so often need the /s badge to catch it...

Basically, don't get too attached to iCloud, or any other "cloud service". Companies will happily shut them down when the next "new thing" comes along, leaving users annoyed as they lose services and have to move their data yet again.

The closing of MobileMe is another in the long line of "cloud service" closings in the past few years (including sites that were around before the term 'cloud' was coined) and it won't be the last.

Be a custodian of your own data. Do not trust "the cloud" as anything more than a temporary storage location.

I cannot argue with your points. I would, however, like to have a t-shirt that says do not trust "the cloud." :D

Apple clearly does not go by the gen number:
5th iPhone: "4S"
3rd iPhone: "3GS"

And if they did "6", then there would only be even numbers. "4S", "6", "6S", "8", etc. The number "5" would be completely absent, and people would be confused to see "4S" go to "6". Just consider the 4S version 4.5, not version 5.

If you just want to wait a little, we can see what Apple calls the next iPhone. From a marketing standpoint, it is very unlikely that they will call it the "iPhone 6", and just "iPhone" seems unlikely. I think they should have called the new iPad the "iPad 3" instead of just "iPad".

Because some of mobileme doesn't have an equivalent in iCloud. The iDisk feature in particular is a desirable, useful part of mobileme. iCloud lacks that feature. And some stored their iWeb sites on mobileme. Etc.

Speaking of which, I'm really anxious to see how iCloud's new photostream sharing will be implemented. I'm hoping well, as I am kind of the family's unofficial photographer, and it would be great to have an easy, private way to share family photos with less tech savvy family members.

It used to be pretty easy to use MobileMe's gallery to create a password protected family album. It's probably the only feature I miss.

Good thing iCloud has a good name. When I saw the name "MobileMe", I shuddered. It's a terrible name, and ".Mac" was not bad except for that fact that it started with a period.

Perhaps because 5 comes after 4?

Exactly. While I can appreciate how some are working the "6" logic... and some seem to have a real hunger of the uniformity of 6-6-6, Apple sells an awful lot of the previous generation phones after new ones come out. If it jumps to "6", the "4S" is going to seem to be 3 generations old, and the 3GS is going to seem to be 4 generations old. And there will be a lot of customers who don't frequent this kind of site asking the same question: "where can I get the '5'?" or "what about the '5'?"

I think it will be the iPhone. I think they'll drop the number. Those that rationalize the jump to "3" for 3G should be arguing that the next one will be called "iPhone LTE" instead of "6".

Yes, but it would be nice if Apple could just keep the data, re-add the MobileMe features to iCloud in different, better ways, then put the data back on.

Really I'm surprised that iCloud doesn't have an iDisk equivalent yet. Apple seemed to have gotten that right years ago (a part of mobileme that really worked well and was popular). I can't believe a virtual hard drive in the cloud is hard to implement (I would even think it would be the very first idea of what an iCloud service should offer). Had that been available- what- a year+ after iCloud was rolled out, anything left in someones mobileme storage could have just been dumped into their iCloud box.

Weren't the 3rd-gen iPad sales a bit low compared to the iPad 2? It seems like the number generates a lot of hype, so they should really just keep it. It works for the iPhone and iPad because of the syllable count and frequency/magnitude of updates. "MacBook Pro 3" or "Mac Mini 2" or "Mac Pro 2" would be weird, and they rarely even change the designs for their Macs anyway. The low numbers on the Mac Pros and Minis would also be embarrassing :p

Your parentheses comments are illogical.
"iPhone 4 was not necessarily due to being the 4th iPhone, rather because 4 follows 3. Likewise, the new iPhone could be called iPhone 5 because 5 follows 4.

But most of all, who the heck cares? It will be what it will be, likely the new "iPhone", just like the iPad. Or, how about iPhone LTE? No matter what people call it now, everyone knows they're talking about one of the next iPhones.

Perhaps because 5 comes after 4?

This is why you people are so clueless... you know 2 comes after 1 so why wasn't the second iPhone called iPhone 2? Oh yeah, I explained that already (because of marketing reasons with the new 3G chip.)

Apple clearly does not go by the gen number:
5th iPhone: "4S"
3rd iPhone: "3GS"

Partially correct, they didn't for the examples you listed, but they did for the Fourth iPhone. Which is why I am saying again, it will either be generational (iPhone 6) or not (iPhone whatever) but they will NOT go backwards and call it iPhone 5.

And if they did "6", then there would only be even numbers. "4S", "6", "6S", "8", etc. The number "5" would be completely absent, and people would be confused to see "4S" go to "6". Just consider the 4S version 4.5, not version 5.

That's just ridiculous. And really, iPhone 4.5?

If you just want to wait a little, we can see what Apple calls the next iPhone.

This I agree with. And again, as I mentioned before several times, I'm not emphatically saying the next iPhone will be called "iPhone 6" it will be called "iPhone" whatever... but I AM emphatically saying it will NOT becalled "iPhone 5" to all the people who keep insisting on calling the 6th iPhone running iOS 6 "teh iPhone 5".

Now I think we've all said enough on the subject, yes?

I agree that it should have iDisk, but I don't know if Apple could give out free storage like that. And what if you have a 50GB MobileMe account full of stuff? And iDisk should really be AFP, not HTTPS.
