It's not at a Game of Thrones level in terms of the cultural Zeitgeist, but anecdotally I've had people bring it up in a few very different contexts. One of my Mexican Spanish tutors brought it up last night. She was anxious to watch the season finale in a few hours, and asked if I had watched Season 2 yet. (I've watched 5 episodes so far.)

Same. The normies are starting to talk about this at work.

I watched the second season finale last night, and while I've called it, "the corporate Twin Peaks", last night I was getting strong "peak X-files" vibes (guy in a suit and a redhead fighting the future? C'mon...), and I mean both references as the highest of compliments. Really excellent television.

But season 2, ep 7 "Chikhai Bardo" is one of the most unique, creative, innovative, incredibly shot, edited, directed, and acted 50 minutes of television ever made, imho. Hopefully it will get the recognition it deserves.

Episode 7 was something else. I've enjoyed this show from the beginning, and I loved the finale, but "Chikhai Bardo" had me ranking this show among the greatest of all time. Severance is reminding me of The Leftovers, an underrated and remarkable show created by the same creator as Lost (which was really the show that started it all, on some level).

Typical new Apple milking something till it’s rotten.
Let’s see. Severance, Severance 2 Plus, Severance 3 Max, Severance 4 Pro, Severance 5 Air, Severance 6 Pro Max

Apple TV+ is a streaming service that manages to feel like both a billion-dollar experiment and an overpriced afterthought. Hidden paywalls, price creep and a library that still looks like it was assembled by someone who had five minutes before a deadline.

We canceled Apple TV+ and their methodology of releasing episodes one week at a time is so archaic in the streaming age.

Servant was the last straw for us with overextending the mystery, filler episodes, weak character arcs, etc. leaving us with no possible remaining interest in their already limited catalog.

I watched a few episodes. I thought it was utter garbage. It feels like TV made for people who think they're smart - but underneath, it's just bland nonsense.

Yeah, minority opinion.
You nailed it. This is for people in the middle and left side of the bell curve. It makes (some) people feel smart. lol. It's a really, really bad show.

I wish sometimes these shows would just have a satisfying ending. This is going to be another show that just drags on and on and will slowly degrade over time. The constant cliff hangers to these series without closure just gets annoying to me. I know some people are really happy about this but sometimes shows just need to end in my opinion.
If there isn't going to be more seasons, end it properly. But if there is going to be more, makes sense to have some cliff hangers but it doesn't have to be all the time. I just don't like cliff hangers that don't have an ending!

TV has done this for decades and we would have to wait from May or June until September or October to see the conclusion. And if they didn't get the go ahead for a new season in time, they would make sure it ended in a completed form or film it to do both.

Now granted, this digital stuff seems to be worse than TV, wait wise, but same idea.

I somewhat disagree with the opinion for calling the show to an end soon.

I was kinda on that thought after a few episodes of s01, because if every season would be based on the innies interactions in the severed office with sprinkles of the outer world life, (basically season 01 over and over and over again), it would run out of gas for both the production and us the spectators.

What they have done with s02 has been fantastic and utterly completely unexpected, but not in a crazy way either. It is still grounded and true to their lore.
Although I like it a bit less than s01 as I find it slower and tiny tad more bloated, but walking on eggshells here as I haven’t seen the finale just yet… that’s the single task for this weekend.

I struggled to get through one episode 😂 there’s only one guy watching this at my work place. Who keeps getting others to try and watch it. No luck 🤣 this show is like breaking bad for me I watched 3 episodes of that and people keep telling me just wait till season 3 nope 👎🏻 I’m not watching it till season 3 before it gets good it should be good immediately.

Breaking Bad would like a word with you.
Funny enough the thing I see this having in common with Breaking Bad is a long time between seasons.

Not many people had the lovely experience of having to wade thru that, now they do. :D

This is what makes television viewing such a deeply personal experience.

Some viewers are completely turned off by certain elements in television, such as what they perceive as “gratuitous nudity” on networks like HBO. They might find such content excessive or unnecessary, preferring a more restrained approach to storytelling. On the other hand, I find these artistic choices compelling, adding layers of authenticity, boldness, or creative freedom that enhance my enjoyment of a show. On a more basic level, I simply want to see these things.

This is why Apple TV+’s content strategy—which feels more aligned with the restrained sensibilities of AMC rather than the anything-goes nature of premium cable—feels somewhat limiting to me. While their approach maintains a certain polish and accessibility, it lacks the boundary-pushing, risk-taking storytelling that I personally enjoy. That said, this more curated, controlled style of content might be exactly what some audiences are looking for, offering a middle ground between traditional network television and the edgier fare of premium cable.
A post about authenticity that was written by AI, interesting choice.

Honestly - if that was the last episode I’d have been fine with it. It works as an ending and suggests they had accepted the fact that it might be.

I fully expect another 2 series arc now, and not to see MDR innies for a good few episodes of s3.

Reading some of the opinions here I guess it is t for everyone, but that’s fine - I probably think their fav shows and video games are trash too!

How is the show supposed to make you feel smart? Great acting with good chemistry, interesting setting and it’s not a copy paste story we always see. I feel like you wanted something consumable and formulaic and when it wasn’t you concluded it’s too esoteric in nature?

“…really, really bad show”?? Lol Did this show hurt you somehow? Maybe try “not my thing” it’s going to be ok.

I don't think Apple is controlling what the writer and the director are doing.

It happens when investors ask for another season, but the writer has already perfectly concluded the story. In that way, the next season will be pretty bad.
