Maybe the check from Apple bounced.

They raise a good point. Even if you dislocate your finger joints and avoid touching the phone in the corner when making a call, and even if you rely on wifi for data, if you aren't even using the phone, but are holding it in your hand to carry it or use wifi, you may miss incoming calls.

Essentially, if you want reliable phone service it isn't enough to "hold it right" when using it. You need to "hold it right" when not using it. A case is essentially mandatory, unless you know you will never be in a suboptimal reception area. (and if you are an AT&T customer, i would not make that bet).

What's the big deal about SAR ratings? There is no conclusive evidence of phone radiation damaging your heath anyway, it's all FUD.

Anyway, for laughs:

FUD or not, there are still authorities worldwide with the mandate to prohibit a device from being sold on a market if it exceeds the maximum allowed SAR rating. Unless Steve wants to be flayed alive by the FCC, the iPhone has to conform. What we privately thinks about SAR ratings is irrelevant.

why do people have to post big annoying pics..

you missed the point. First phones are approved based on a sar level submitted to the FCC. They must be below a certain level which i think is set by the FDA.

So if by touching that famous spot, does the sar level still stay below the allowed limit?

heck i could care less about sar.i personally think it is a joke, and only hurts consumers in the wallet and cell phone quality

You apple diehards kill me.. A lot of the people complaining about the iphone4 were happy users of a iPhone 3G. Just because you are in a high signal area doesn't mean you will never be in a low covered area. Then you'll cry as well. Especially if you had fine service in the same area with the 3G.

Consumer reports are changing their tune now..
Many of the die hards don't won't their phone on the news getting a bad rap.. To late.. Apple failed on this one big time...

I'll take the bet that the SAR of the iPhone 4 is going to be higher than any other iPhone.. Any takers?

Mr Jobs needs break cover to come out and publicly apologise most sincerely to all people who bought this faulty device but IN ADDITION to all those people he blamed at the WWDC for not being able to get a signal when now it is clear to all but the dumbest fanboi that the phone was to fault.

This is the biggest FAIL in corporate history. Mark my words.

Maybe not:

Our findings are not definitive, by any means; they are informal tests by journalists rather than lab tests by Consumer Reports testing staff. And among the scores of comments on our last post on this topic are those that report fine and consistent signal experiences with their new iPhones.

Even they say that their findings are not definitive.

For the one millionth time APPLE WAS NOT USING 3G AT WWDC - HE WAS USING WI-FI!

The issue exists. There is no denying that. In fact, people who keep denying it mystify me. What do you have to gain by this ?

The issue there, the software fix has nothing to do with it. Apple is going to try to bury this and yes this is a taint on the iPhone 4 launch.

By saying their findings are not definitive, they're only playing a safe card. This was after all, 2 journalists that reproduced it outside of controlled experimenting. You can be sure now that they will make sure to reproduce it in a controlled environment and report on it.

That's not the point. They reported that there was nothing wrong with the phone, and now they say "not so fast.". They seem to have discovered what those of us that are afflicted already know - in some locations there is a povlem, but not in others.

More importantly, a lot of apologists pointed at the CR recommendation as proof that there was no defect. Now that cr reports a defect they will point at the "not definitive" language. Once cr posts a definitive update, they'll point at something else.

Which is baffling. Apple is probably the only company in the world to have such a huge damage control team that they pay 0$ for. Why do these people feel the need to apologise as if they were personally responsible for this product ?

This is the biggest pile BS I've ever seen in my life. If they actually cared for the customer with this situation, it never would have happened in the first place. There's no way they can tell you that this display "issue" wasn't found within 4 years of phones, and the iPhone 4's antenna doesn't have more of a problem than any other phone.

Ridiculous. This is my last apple phone. Probably the end of apple. Eh, who am I kidding? They'll keep throwing their spin on things and be fine.

You know what's ridiculous, your post! So you're saying if Apple "cared" about their customers the iPhone 4 would be perfect and without flaws just like every other "perfect, free from flaws" product made by every other top manufacturer right???? Jump into reality buddy, nothing, and I mean nothing you've ever bought was flawless.

If you or anyone who owns the iPhone 4 is pissed off or not buying a statement put out by Apple and has total disbelief that Apple will fix this issue (since they have future sales to rely on), I say thank you to all of you because you just had to be a "Gotta have it first, Gotta have it first" customer to show it off to your friends that you're the first kid on the block with your new toy. You didn't need it right away and you know it, period. So thank you to all of you BETA TESTERS, when I get my iPhone 4 it will working fine. Now I'm going to sit back and enjoy my coffee while I laugh at all of these ranting disbelieving posts by all the Beta Testers that needed their new toy to show off to their school mates or co-workers. People are now laughing at you. :p

Except when you get it, it will still have the issue, since Apple's fix for it is still "Don't hold it like that" and "Get a bumper".

This software fix will only change the bar display, it will not fix the more than 20 dbm drop when holding the phone in a natural way.

And last I checked, products that are released to market aren't Beta. When you charge money, people expect you have done the proper testing. There is nothing shocking about the outrage on this issue. Unless you're an AAPL shareholder. Then you should point your comments at the CEO, not the consumers that buy the products that keep your share price up. Blaming customers is a good way to send them away.

There's minor design flaws and major design flaws. The iPhone 4 has the latter. Unless it gets fixed, which at this point seems unlikely, the iPhone 4 will go down as the biggest tech goof-up in the history of Apple, and possibly of all-time.

Errr.... he was shorting the wifi antenna to the 3G antenna...

For those who don't understand what a short is... go lick your fingers and shove them into an outlet.

You're stating this as fact. Do you have any supporting evidence that shows that ALL Apple is going to do is fix the way the signal appears? They don't have to tell the customers everything that they are doing in the fix. So will you still be trippin' if the fix takes care of not only the signal bar issue, but the dropped call issue as well or did you just want to have a reason still to rant?

Take it easy, big fella!

Me? I'm just fine. I'm not here like the same repeated people (and they know who they are) showing so much hatred and name calling to Apple and Steve Jobs. I'm also not the ones like many here who profess to know more about the iPhone's technical design more than Apple does.
