Just before the public launch of iOS 8 earlier this month, Apple removed all HealthKit-enabled apps from the iOS App Store due to an last-minute issue with the service. Addressing the issue, Apple promised it was working on a fix with the goal to "have HealthKit apps available by the end of the month". As spotted by 9to5Mac, Apple is now allowing apps with HealthKit features back into the iOS App Store.

One of the first apps to debut with HealthKit today is FitPort [Direct Link], a replacement for the iOS 8 Health app. The fitness dashboard allows users both to view health stats pulled from Apple's Health database and to enter new data manually. Now that Apple is approving these apps, there should be a deluge of new HealthKit-capable apps appearing in the App Store in the coming days.

Apple planned to fix the HealthKit issue with iOS 8.0.1, but problems with cellular connectivity and Touch ID functionality on iPhone 6 and 6 Plus devices forced Apple to pull the update shortly after release. The company fixed these iOS problems and updated HealthKit in iOS 8.0.2, which was released late Thursday.

I wonder how long it will take for updated apps. You would think they have them ready to go and just need to test again and release an update.

Hopefully they will have better interfaces than the terrible one of the Health app

Looking forward to using this App to get more exercises in and loose weight... for about 1 month of excitement... and then start coming up with some excuses why I don't use it that much anymore... before stopping any type of exercise... :D

Why build an app to replace the health app?.

In this case, it can see previous entries that Health can't. If you carefully read through the 8.0.2 thread, you'll notice some complaints that Health in 8.0.2 is no longer displaying fitness data collected in 8.0. What's missing differs user to user, steps for some, distance for some, etc. Individual data points are still there and other apps can pull them and see them, but Health simply displays zeroes for every day before the 8.0.2 update.

It's not terrible. If anything I wish you could just hide the charts on the dashboard and show only the heading with today's numbers for that particular data.

Will try FitPort as sometimes I want to go back on a specific day to look at the stuff. But I can't do it easily on Health.

Anyone seeding updates to take advantage of Health Kit yet? Would love to actually use the features on my phone.

I think it would show in the sources page if it's compatible. I use My Fitness Pal to keep track of my daily nutrition and workouts but as of now it doesn't seem to be compatible.

It was briefly compatible upon the launch of iOS 8, adding nutritional information and so on (really cool), but then suddenly the app was incompatible with healthkit, I think it was reverted to an earlier version.

I'm just wondering why they haven't released the latest version now!

I'm really hoping this isn't the start of a trend of app developers leaching data *out* of HealthKit and the app but not feeding it back in. I want the Health app to be an aggregator for all my health/fitness data from various 3rd party apps (Withings, UP, Nike Running), so I want all my apps feeding *into* it. Data sharing between the numerous third party health and fitness apps was a frustrating mess and will continue to be so if devs don't play ball with HealthKit.

It concerns me that someone like Jawbone will decide that their UP app will be the ultimate health app, so will pull data from all the other health apps via HealthKit, but won't share its own data back. You want to see ALL your info in one place? Then you need our app. I'm hoping there's some form of safeguard in place to prevent this but I've not seen mention of anything yet.

Just checked, they didn't integrate HealthKit. Also the UI is buggy.

How did you check that? Not trolling, actually curious. I did get a pop up asking if I want to provide the app access to motion data, which I wrote off as collateral evidence that it is at least tapping into the M8. I am not sure if the app showing up in 'sources' actually signifies healthkit integration.

I agree, although of course there will apps that take data *out* of Health, to use for a new reason, e.g., to monitor your nutrition and tell you what you're not eating enough of, and other endless possibilities.

Waiting (IMPATIENTLY) for healthkit to populate data from my withings connected scale....

Apple Health has me pretty excited. I'm one of the many, many people who is always saying "I need to start eating/sleeping/exercising" better, and this type of digital health organization combined with my love for playing with cool new technology might just be the thing to finally keep me on the right track :)

I'll be purchasing the Apple Watch for the health features and I've already been looking at scales that plan to support HealthKit ;)

Anxious

I can't wait to start using :apple: Watch. Hopefully it works well for fitness. I lost my Fitbit Force after taking it off when i finished a 5k color run. They discontinued the Fitbit Force and I've missed that thing since. I've been waiting for :apple: Watch and I hope it does not disappoint.
