Too bad they didn't get rid of the red ring. Such an awfully pointless design element. I wanted the ceramic, too, but that ruins the design for me.
They want some physical distinction between LTE and GPS only models (you know, for the show offs). At least with the series 4 and later they switched to a red ring instead of the red dot found on series 3 LTE models.

No... same chipset as S4, just... new display!

That's lame. The one piece of hardware where leaps were still coming generation to generation was the Watch. It was a no brainer upgrade with a new CPU from my 3. But with basically just a 4, I'll have to think about it. The 6 will almost certainly get a new CPU now (at 7nm presumably) and be worth it.

Any reason they raised the price of base watch model in Europe? its only 20€ more, but still

Glad they priced the titanium only $100 more. Actually, with the new style creator functionality, if you were planning on getting a leather or Milanese loop, you save about $100. Oh wait, did they drop the price on the leather bands and Milanese Loop at some point? Only $99 now! So a wash, but still, basically like a free titanium upgrade for those already planning to get one of those bands and expecting to pay what they used to cost.

Apple Watch Series 5 pricing:

Aluminum: $399 40mm, $429 44mm, cellular +$100

Stainless steel: $699 40mm, $749 44mm

Titanium: $799 40mm, $849 44mm

Ceramic: $1299 40mm, $1349 44mm

Cellular is mandatory in all except aluminum, colors/finishes do not increase price on any model

I felt like this year's September event was rushed, left out tons of details (no mention of hardware in S5 watch for example), and spent an extraordinarily long amount of time on the new iPhone camera as there is really nothing of note about the phone otherwise. I'm actually more disappointed than I expected to be.
good point. did their collage show if it has an updated chip?

i think this presentation was a clear indicator that the 2020 lineup is supposed to be something meaningful. watches and phones are both likely going to be worth paying attention to.

seeing the watch is like no wonder we didnt hear rumors, there wasnt anything riveting to talk about ahead of time.

I was looking forward to Sleep Tracking as a reason for updating my Watch 1st Gen. Will keep it one more year now. Always-on screen is not such a big deal as I thought it would be.

Very unimpressed with this year’s releases. Very few reasons for anyone with iPhone X/iPhone XS or watch series 4 to upgrade.

Why would someone with such new hardware upgrade so soon? If you just have to always have the latest and don't care about cost, you can do it, but most people are better off upgrading in 2-3 year cycles so they waste less money on depreciation for incremental improvements.

Any reason why we can't compare the Series 4 AW with the Series 5 Apple? Could it be that there is not much of a difference?

Because the series 4 is no longer sold by Apple starting today. The comparison is mostly intended for customers buying a new apple watch on the website, and those customers will only be able to choose between the series 3 and series 5 so no point in including the series 4 in the comparison sheet.

Australia they've gone up... :(
Same in Canada, prices have gone up on the new watches.

Series 4 44mm with GPS + Cellular was $649.
Series 5 44mm with GPS + Cellular is $699.

Apple has managed to make me not want to upgrade from my Series 2 again. Maybe I can find some good deals on Series 4 watches...

battery life with AOD? sounds like people will have to bring chargers with them to charge watch midday.. rip

Always On Display sold me to get the AW5. I simply can't wear a smartwatch without AOD. Samsung watches have spoiled me.
This is the one thing I like about series 5, but it’s not enough for me to upgrade from my series 4. And honestly, it’s a bit of a slap in the face because a simple software change could enable this on my series 4. I don’t think battery life would be that greatly affected.

So did we get a new CPU on the watch with Series 5? I didn't see anything mentioned.
It calls it an S5 on their website, so it likely is a new chip, but I doubt it will be a noticeable difference in every day use from the S4. Big new feature is just the always on display, plus new finishes at the high end. This one is mostly for folks with S3 or older, unless you have an S4 and really want an AOD.

Except the store does allow you to compare every iPhone from the new iPhone 11 down to the iPhone 6, so at the very least Apple is being inconsistent here. Could just be the site isn't fully updated, though, rather than a deliberate omission.

Yes, I get that. The point is that people aren't fooled by this.

As an Apple fan I am extremely disappointed that Apple would deliberately remove the Series 4. Blatantly because its almost identical to the new Series 5 apart from the finishes, a compass and always-on display.

But apparently apple cares more about those customers who upgrade every year and have no objection with the pricing. I see no other reason why they continue to release new products every year knowing that most people only upgrade every 2-3 years. And they're getting pretty cynical about their pricing too if we recall what the girl introducing the basic iPhone 11 said. She said something like "We want more people to have access to it so the new iPhone 11 will be available for just $699". Anyone who really thinks 699 is a low price point has issues and needs to see a shrink.

Went for the cheapest one. Just ordered the Space Gray Aluminum 44mm with pine green band, non cellular version. Didn't feel like spending more for a better case or band. I'll get a better third party band from Amazon, like I did with my previous S2.
