It wasn't.I do not know what the hype is about? First of all that sticker is old, it was present when the last two iPhones launched at least, also the site is up and running with nothing new apple.com at least.

Are they trying to take every last bit of whimsy and color out of the Apple experience? I don't get it. Apple just takes itself way too seriously now.
Man, this is a _REVOLUTION_! A gray background sticker instead of yellow post-it! Incredible! Look at those rounded edges! What a nice selection of fonts!
We should be happy about what we get for free!nothing different - except the post it note.
I don't agree with this this view. There's colour and whimsy everywhere in Apple design but, increasingly, the colour and the whimsy comes from the apps and the content. The page or device on which it's displayed is the frame and this has been pared down to be minimal and colourless over the years so that the content takes centre stage and becomes the focus.
Look at the current Apple homepage with the new iPad. The framing is understated and minimal but there's a glorious, saturated pink flower on it to show off the display of the new product.
That pink flower is not whimsical, it's designed to make the screen look vibrant. The Mac startup face was whimsical. The old 80s system icons were whimsical. The candy iMac and swivel iMacs were whimsical. The sticky note, while perhaps not filled with whimsy, was at least informal. Simulated leather and stitching on iOS are not whimsical, it's just tacky. And Serious Shiny Techie placards are certainly not whimsical; they are digital neckties that need to be loosened.
I understand the need for color-critical work to not be marred by the OS, but I'm pretty sure Apple could program a "serious work" color mode for Photoshop, Aperture and Final Cut. Though plenty of people have gotten great work done with a bit of whimsy in their computer life.
I agree. While I generally like Apple's minimalistic design's in products, this just looks, well, minimalistic. No character, no charm, just something a 12 year old could have designed.
I'm happy to see that cheap looking comic sans sticky go, especially if it hints of software design changes to come.
