I think his point was that fractions of an inch is meaningless. It's very far from the hyperbole most people go for when they say "I don't want a huge phone!". ;)

Exactly. Plus - I would guess that with the additional time in development, battery technology, and Apples refined assembly process that Apple could get an phone that offered a 4" screen, dual core processor, a gig of RAM and 64BG of memory in the same size as the current iP4. They wouldn't need those small fractions of an inch that Motorola needed last year.

Don't underestimate the impact that a fraction of an inch has. :p

A fraction of an inch turns a smartphone into a tablet, one which we have to sandpaper our fingers to use. Remember:

Phone fractionally bigger than the iPhone 4 = Behemoth tablet phone
Tablet smaller than the iPad = Tablet that is just too small for fingers without sandpapering them.

:p

I agree as far a "Huge" phone is concerned but his point was to fit a 4" screen on a device that is the same size as the iPhone.....which it isn't. Its slightly bigger.

----------

Yes, and the point is it doesn't make the phone "HUGE!" compared to a "TINY!" iPhone 4. ;)

Stop nitpicking.

stop missing my point! *shakes fist* :p

Its minor but enough to accommodate the screen. It may not seem a lot but its enough.

Also remember that those fractions of an inch wrap a dual core processor, more on board memory and a gig of RAM. Also - and more importantly in light of tomorrow's release of the "latest" from Apple - the Atrix hardware was released in January at CES...very old in terms of technology. If it only took another company fractions of an inch to wrap much more hardware back in January - what could be done tomorrow if Apple really wanted to?

I would guess that most Apple customers would give up a tenth of an inch here or there to get a 4" retina display, more on board memory, a dual core processor and more RAM.

The Atrix has the best ratio or screen to phone surface area of any phone on the market. That is what Apple should be shooting for. An edgeless display that more efficiently uses the surface of the iPhone.

I "essentially" came first in a race once even though I actually came second.

I'm going to be really annoying and stick to point as its right

If the iP4 and Atrix had the same hardware specs (memory, screen size, RAM, processor cores and battery capacity) then I would agree with you 100% that the Atrix loses this comparison. But since (purely from a hardware standpoint) the Atrix has more to offer and gives up very very little in terms of overall size - I think the point is that Apple could do better in utilizing the surface area of the phone while offering a dual core processor and more memory.

A phone with a 3.5" screen and a maximum storage of only 32GB is old school and Apple needs to step up the hardware.

No, you both "essentially" finished at the same time, even though technically he was first and you were second.

Photo finish. Get it now ? You're "technically" right, but he was talking "essentially". IE: You're nitpicking. We're talking 1/10 of an inch.

all i want is a screen that is > or = 4.0", a dual core processor, and availability on Sprint. unfortunately there's probably gonna only be 2/3 of those things. i would even sacrifice the upgraded processor for a 4 or more inch screen. :(

OK- so- everyone- just so you know- they did not release an iPhone with a larger screen-

:D

sour grapes...

It would be crackup if the iPhone 5 gets announced in 2 days. arn's face IRL would be priceless.

It will be, for the past 3 nights I have dreamed of Steve Jobs launching an iPhone 5, I have even booked Tuesday off work because I will be too excited about the event to concentrate on any work so Apple had better not let me down, they won't :apple:

Well, it's post Oct. 4th sooooo... how's dem Apple's' taste?! I guess Arn is vindicated now, isn't he? :p

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_5 like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8L1 Safari/6533.18.5)

I love how, even after Apple has confirmed the next iPhone will just be an iPhone 4S (plus the abundance of evidence for the iPhone 4S up until now), there are still people trying to rationalize that Apple will release a re-designed iPhone 5. I actually feel bad for these people, pinning all their hope on a cellphone.

Yeah, people were in denial for sure, and over a silly smartphone no less. How "dumb" is that?

I was watching wwdc 2009 when they released iphone 3gs to see how they exactly sold it to the people ...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTU_RFBaCEg

so basically mr cook is going to say .. this is the most powerful fastest iphone yet .. dual core bladibla ....

it has the same revolutionary design we had with the iphone 4 just last summer but inside its totally new ....

and just like that .. millions of iphone4S will be sold ... dissapointed i am.

And sure enough that's more or less what happened yesterday. :D
