Easy enough to agree with, to be honest lol. I'm 100% there on seeing that the iPhone needs to smarten up its act to keep us on board. Much as I dislike a lot of what I've seen of Android as an OS, the features of some of those phones are pretty nice.

Fair enough. I just disagree with other phones being compelling. I honestly didn't care what phone I had or about phones in general before the iPhone. If iPhone died Tuesday and Apple shut down, I would go back to moto razor if they had it. Android does not appeal at all to me. I don't want to have to be a "system integrator" as Jobs said.

But the masses I'm sure love Android.
You have every right to not like or want an Android. Obviously I've had it for about two years but come hell or high water I'm jumping to iPhone as soon as it hits the Sprint stores (Based on what I said above) so it (Android) hasn't endeared itself to me. I just want a trouble free, smooth, capable phone that has all the apps I need. While Android is okay it's too much like keeping a Windows computer running smoothly. Too many hiccups and too many apps that are coded half a$$ed and ugly. Not to mention integration with all my other Apple devices.

Anyway...I've talked too much. Lets just hope for the best come Tuesday...Whatever it is :)

Oh and BTW if Sprint doesn't get the iPhone for some crazy reason, I'm jumping to Verizon!

Man... I just want to know the story of the teardrop design. If the 4s is it, I hope the behind the scenes story leaks of what truly happened...

Someone said wtf is that thing and cancelled it.

You spec boys are way off base here. This could be the most important event in years. Voice control and response is going to be the killer feature of Assistant. It will no longer be the lame speech recognition we have been used to. This is going to be the next level, you know like in how it is supposed to work in the SciFi movies. The newer A5 will be needed for that so the 4s's will have it and sell like hotcakes and the coolness factor will be off the chart. You just tell it what to do and it can answer or screen your calls for you!. All the hardware geeks are bemoaning the specs and are again missing the how great it will just work aspect. It's like when you were saying the iPad was a total fail because it didn't have enough ports. It's the software this time that has the WOW.
Remember the invite!! Most seem to have missed the hint -- Let's TALK iPhone!
It's not just me that sees this..
http://www.cultofmac.com/116677/why-...mportant-ever/

you've proven my point... the competition has had this for 2 years. If you're playing catch up you also have to blow it out of the water, not just provide a "different" version of something that already exist. The Assistant feature is nothing groundbreaking IMO.

Also how would you expect this Assistant feature to work as you described without really good hardware specs?

I don't think you fully understand the depth of the assistant development. It goes way beyond just giving voice instructions to your phone. Your phone will be able to contextually help you based on you speaking normal english to your device.

There is a difference between saying "call home" and "leave a message for my wife and confirm my appointment with Steve on Thursday. Also I need to pick up some milk on the way home."

From this the device would phone your wife and perhaps even be able to leave a pre recorded message then it will check your calendar and email a confirmation of your Thursday appointment and finally as you get close to the grocery store on the way home it will alert you to stop and get some milk.

Are you telling me you had a device two years ago that could do that?

This better be better than the new samsung galaxy or im gonna go crazy, waiting for 15months is way to long...

Very well said. Could be the game changer IMO.. I know it will be for me..

I'm just waiting to have a functional phone again!

I still have a 3G (not s) and it barely works. Been holding out this past year for my contract to end so I can upgrade and then waiting and waiting and waiting for the new one to come out.

Whatever it is... I'll buy it.

Would be nice though if it was a full step ahead instead of a half, as I'll have the phone for the next 2 years until the next contract ends!

My two cents

If there are to be two phones (still nobody really knows for sure), I think the (N90A) will be the 4S which will be the natural replacement for the 3GS and the (N94) will be the new iPhone 5. I think it will look pretty similar to the old one as we've not seen any real evidence of a new form factor, but it will have a faster processor, camera, memory etc.

Sorry if anyone above has said this before, I didn't have time to read through all of these posts! Anyway, not long to wait now...

Sorry but the N94 was confirmed as the iPhone 4S.

So is anyone else looking forward to IOS5 & Lion 10.7.2 release, or just iPhone releases?
Almost looks like all hope for a redesigned iPhone 5 is lost for these next releases, so I'l be keeping my iPhone 4 and are looking forward to IOS5 and I think most of all looking forward to 10.7.2 for my MBP and cross my fingers that there are more bug fixes than new one introduced from iCloud. I wont hold my breath though, as since 10.7.1 they will have added iCloud, so that means more bugs.
IOS5 for my iPhone 4 and Lion fixed up will be my hopes following Tuesday.

Your assuming bigger is better here.

I don't want the iPhone to be any bigger. It could, however, be an edgeless screen to enlarge the area abit.

Problem is Apple cannot cater to everyones wants.

Tomorrow you are going to get:

1. Faster
2. Better Battery Life
3. Better GPS/internal components.
4. 64GB (maybe)

Etc.

Personally, that sounds good to me and I'm partially tempted to upgrade from my iP4 already.

The wait for an upgrade continues.......

Im still on the 3G and waited this long to upgrade, could have got the iPhone 4 but thought I'd get an iPad 2 instead while benefit by owning a new iPhone 5. If the 4s comes out only then I'm holding onto my 3G for another 1year.....or 1.5yrs

The 3G slow as he'll but all I use it for is calls only, I do most of my stuff on my iPad now.

I’m not assuming bigger is better. I don’t want the iPhone to be any bigger either. However, I own an iPhone 4 and I have always thought that the screen would be better if it where a little bigger.

Theoretically, a 4 inch screen could fit within the same design as the iPhone 4.

Exactly! I have been waiting for Apple to offer a larger screen - my one hang up to move to the iPhone. I have an Atrix which was a 4" screen in basically the same size as the iP4. If the 4S had an edgeless 4" screen in the same overall shape as the iP4 - then it would be a huge win. But if Apple continues the 3.5" screen for yet another year then they are clearly just looking to sell to the ecosystem and not looking to have the best hardware out there.

My phone is by no means perfect - but it has the best screen size to phone size ratio of any phone out there.

You folks fell for it...this is just to throw you off. There will be an Iphone 5. Why because it jives with all the rhyming...IOS5, Iphone 5, itouch 5.

A lot of people thought that there was not going to be a redesign of the Ipad when Apple came out with the Ipad 2 and look at what they did. A totally different Ipad...lighter, slimmer, and faster. The same thing will happen tomorrow with the Iphone 5...

Get ready!

The next Iphone needs a bigger screen! And the Iphone 5 will have it...we will see tomorrow. Y'all know Apple is the master at deception!

Get ready to be wowed!

But even if we get the same design...they could blow us away if they price everything $100 less than the current prices.

Say $199 for the 64GB version...or hell like this..

Iphone 5
$99 for the 16 GB version
$149 for the 32 GB version
$199 for the 64 GB version

$49 for the redesigned 8 Gb Iphone 4S (The real Iphone 4S)

You completely fail at understanding what Apple is doing. Perhaps after the event you will have your eyes opened.

There is a lot riding on this introduction. Many have made excuses and tried to give Apple a pass by claiming there was an upgrade this past spring when the Verizon iPhone came out and to release a new one in June/July would have frustrated Verizon buyers. And this one? Why won't a release now frustrate them? I mean - probably 99% of Verizon iPhone4 customers signed a two year contract and won't be able to upgrade this month just as they wouldn't have been able to upgrade in June/July. That excuse is pure garbage. Secondly - there are some key issues that Apple has slipped behind - dual core, screen size, memory (my Atrix has 40GB) and 4G/LTE. To bring a spec bumped 4S that addresses the dual core issue, but doesn't give LTE or a larger screen will surely sell millions of devices - but it puts Apple in a position of just playing catch up for this and the next generation device.

Some people love iTunes and the Apple UI experience - but Android is catching up very fast and in some areas already has passed Apple. I mean, iOS5 is going to finally give some key features that Android already has - like Assistant (Android has had this for nearly two years), notifications - again an Android standard feature for years, dual core - again - old news, 4" screens - again...old news and finally 1GB RAM - yeah I have that too. All that said - Apple needs to do more than just catch up here. Not to mention the fragility issues associated with the iP4 as well as the antennagate issue.

So...while it is looking more and more like all we are going to get is a spec bump - I expect that many if not most fan boys will excuse this behavior and go buy this phone. I remain hopeful that Apple has gone to monumental efforts to keep the iP5 under wraps and will instead do what they need to do - introduce a phone that exceeds the competition - not just catches up to it. While sales will remain high and it seems that Apple has the ability to sell just about anything they make - to really remain king of the smart phone hill in terms of hardware - this is what they need to introduce tomorrow:

iP4 - prepaid in emerging markets - not in the USA.
iP4s - Spec bumped to run iOS5 and will replace the 3GS as the entry level phone for US and European customers
iP5 - all new device to be the future of the iPhone brand - to include:
- 4" Retina Display
- 16, 32, 64 GB models
- A5 Dual Core Chip
- 1GB RAM
- no matter the case design - must be thinner than iP4
- HSPA+ for applicable networks
- LTE announced for next year

Oh...and one last thing - Let Jobs introduce the iP5 as his final public product reveal.

Anything less than the above - should be viewed as a major disappointment for Apple and the iPhone brand.

Thank you for perfectly illustrating the difference between an elegant phone and a clumsy mini-tablet phone.

Long live the iPhone 4 form factor!

I didn’t intend for people to think I want the iPhone to have a 4.7 inch screen, I personally think that is too big.

The comparison was intended to show the screen to bezel ration. The iPhone has a lot of room around the screen, which admittedly is a little small, while the other phone has next to none.

I also said this in another post that the current iPhone design has enough room for a 4 inch screen.

You are missing the point. The 3.5" screen is too small in today's market place. And the Atrix proves the point that you don't have to be bigger to have a larger screen. Compare the specs below:

iPhone4 (with a 3.5" screen):
Height - 4.5"
Width - 2.31"
Thick - .37"
Weight - 4.8 oz
Maximum Memory - 32GB
Single Core Chip
512K RAM

Atrix4G (with a 4" screen)
Height - 4.6"
Width - 2.5"
Thick - .4"
Weight - 4.8 oz
Maximum Memory - 40GB
Dual Core Chip
1GB RAM

These two phones are essentially the same size - with the Atrix being slightly smaller when you consider it is more durable without a case. Keep in mind - I am not comparing user interface or experience as those are more subjective. This is just a hardware comparison. If Motorola could get 4" screen, a gig of RAM and more memory into a device that is approaching a year old, then Apple could get the same items in the same form factor as the iPhone4 if they wanted to.

3.5" is just too small. A 4" Retina display on an iPhone4S - even if it had essentially the same form factor as the iP4. Apple has in the past specialized in miniaturization of electronic components. Getting more memory and a larger screen into the next iPhone is a must.

Still holding out hope that Apple continues to innovate in terms of hardware.

Are you high?

Are you high?

No. What part of Essentially the same size did you miss? One tenth of an inch taller and less than two tenths wider to accomodate 1GB of DDR2 RAM, a half in more in screen size and more memory?! And keep in mind we are talking about a design that was introduced in January at CES?!?!

All I was saying was that if a nearly year old design can accomodate such significant hardware in essentially the same size as the iP4...then it seems that tomorrow - Apple has no excuse to not best a phone that came out 10 months ago!?

As Apple fans - we can't accept a spec upgrade in the face of such intense competition. I suspect that we will see even thinner, faster and more capable devices at CES in January fresh off the heals of whatever it is that Apple releases tomorrow.

I just hope that they continue the progression that they started 16 months ago...not just a spec bump to catch up to current competition.
