The notch can afford to be this big. But it probably won't be that big.

Wouldn’t this notch confirmation show up in the code of the new OS that will be released. Has anyone dove into it to see?

These new MacBook Pros look absolutely stunning. I'm still not going back to the Mac, iPad Pro does everything better, but I'm tempted just to buy one as a piece of modern design in my home to represent the best of Apple.

Notch would require interuption of menu bar, the most important piece of UI of OSX. I doubt they are that sutpid.
Again, read the original article. It describes a main display with two secondary displays - the areas either side of a potential notch. Those areas are blacked out but can be used for additional information.

There's two ways to think about this:

1) The current MBP has a massive "notch" that just stretches the entire width of the display

2) The new MPB has a dynamic black "bezel" where regions on the left and right can be used to display icons, menu items, or even extend the regular 16:10 region.

The dynamic bezel could be more useful than a fixed wide notch.

I’m going to laugh so hard if the touch bar has been moved up so only the thin strip on either side of the notch is a touch screen. That right there would be comedy gold.

Cant wait for notch-gate on the NotchBook Pros.

I just hope they make the top cover behind the screen extra stiff. On a normal notebook when you lift the cover from the corner, the stress is kind of spread evenly across the screen. On a notched design like this, it could end up flexing more at an angle away from one or the other side of the notch. If not a very rigid cover, then at least having some sort of back plate behind the notch to compensate. If not, in a few years were going to have “Notchcrackgate”.

That aside, I think this will work great. They will hard code the system to make sure “full-screen” stops below the notch-bar in the normal 16-10 area and probably, simultaneously sim the notch-bar so it disappears. It will look like bezel when that happens. Not sure what the fuss is.

I’m glad I’ve got a current 12.9 iPad Pro because for sure if there’s a notch on the MBP they’ll stick one on the 2022 iPads 🤣

First world problems. Blows my mind how many ppl are up in arms on this. You can always hook the laptop to an external display folks
