I am open minded about most things, but i just dont see the point of a foldable iPad. Now, the foldable iPhone, yes please and thank you. That makes all the sense in the world to me if its the bookstyle foldable type because then i have both an iPhone and a iPad Mini with me at all times. Thats what i want.

But a stand alone foldable iPad, espically if its a book style/laptop like device, i just dont get for the life of me. If you want a laptop, buy a macbook air or pro. If you want a tablet that has laptop like features with a keyboard and a mouse, we have those devices too. My iPad pro 11 inch serves me as my laptop and i have a M1 iMac and a Iphone 16 pro max with apple watch ultra series 2.

For my uses, i dont need a a laptop, as my ipad doubles as such. Ive bough ipad mini's in the past, i love the form factor, but they are so watered down spec wise it kills the perfect form factor as is for me...Thats why im like blend the Iphone with the Ipad mini's into a foldable device and i got everything i need on the go.

What apple SHOULD make is a convertable imac/ipad desktop device simular to how Microsoft had with the Surface Studio. When it was upright it was a normal all in one Desktop computer, but you tilted it down and it was a drawing/touch interface. You still used a keyboard and mouse with it, but it became this giant canvas screen for creative work like drawing or interacting with apps.

imagine a Ipad/Imac hybrid device like that. Their is no techical reason apple cant make that device, they just dont want to calabalize sales of their ipads.

Thing is, it wouldent even be meant to replace an ipad. an iPad iphone/fold device would be your portable on the go device. A ipad/macbook laptop touch scren hybrid device would be the new style laptop and this would be the new all in one device.

It just makes sense with todays technology. Their is no reason for any modern computer NOT to have a touch screen user interface outside of costs saving measures.

Keyboards and mouse will always be the best option for some apps, touch or drawing for other devices. Why not combind them all and make these ultimate hybrid devices that serve both needs?

But thats just me. Apple is still so stubborn about blending their devices when its inevitable.

For me, a folding device has one huge benefit.

Same size device with twice the screen. I don't want to carry a bigger phone around, but i sure wish the screen size was twice the size.

All jokes aside, I know no-one with a foldable phone, never seen one on the train to work, or in my large office, or in public at all. I'm sure apple can turn the tide!

The supposed foldable iPad is the answer to a question nobody asked

It's a little presumptuous to say nobody asked for it.

I would love a two-screen device—one an adaptable keyboard (that changes functions frequently based on the app you use), the other the main screen interface.

Mechanical keyboards have significant weaknesses—the main one being your actual computer is hidden beneath the keyboard. Any liquid gets on it, and your computer is toast.

Screen-based devices would avoid that more easily. You can clean a screen very quickly with a cloth. No water damage.

The problem is that Apple is trying to focus on delivering a one-screen folding device, which isn't realistic. Apple is distracted too much by the ultimate dream of "what could be" (and failing to get there) instead of using an intermediate stepping stone to get to the final goal.

It would be better for them to produce two devices working together. The hinge is the main problem. If they would instead have two devices communicate with each other, the process would probably go much faster at creating a new type of meaningful and innovative device.

Airpower and Vision Pro probably suffered from similar problems. Vision Pro focused too much on the "what could be" instead of focusing on practical things—like how much the device would weigh on someone's head.

Yeah, looks like common sense prevailed after all. Apple might have made some money with this toy, but a gimmick is still a gimmick. And this solution never really had a problem to solve. Fortunately, Apple is still Apple and focuses on developing things that address real needs, rather than just creating stuff for the sake of it.

Attach a keyboard and you have a MacBook with a foldable screen. (Let the MacBook housing serve as a sturdy case when not in use.) 12” MacBook with a 24” screen, or fold it twice and have an ultrawide laptop screen. Maybe curved and dual boot iOS/macOS.

Never made sense. Glad to see Apple coming to senses.

The market wants a foldable phone that turns into a tablet. That part is clear.

You look at Huawei Mate XT. It unfolds to the size of 10.2” iPad. It’s thinner than iPad Pro. I think once Apple saw that, the foldable iPad made zero sense. At least for now.
100% agree with this. I am keen for a foldable phone that becomes an iPad mini but I can't see a use case for me for a foldable iPad. If I have carry capacity for something like an iPad I have space for a decent sized iPad.
