You wouldn't want twice the screen size while still having the same base form factor to carry around?
No. Because there's always going to be an ugly crease in the screen, even if Apple can make it less obnoxious than Samsung. They also break a lot of easier and are a lot more expensive to fix on top of the already much more expensive up front costs. And then it's 2x as thick as a normal device with worse battery life.

As I said earlier in the thread, these things are going to go the way of 3D TV's. Fancy new tech that everyone rushes into before realizing it's just not that good and not worth the trade offs.

Peak foldables is already behind us... pre-2007. I don't know why these companies think we want to go back.

When people couldn’t appreciate the MacBook with TouchBar… there’s no way they’re going to appreciate this thing.

TouchBar just needed to not replace a row of keys but compliment them as well. Easy fix. A folded iPad or iPhone is a problem in search of a problem.

I'm all for apple developing new things (lord knows they need it) but as a first foray into the foldable market, an ipad seems an odd formfactor to go for.

Hahahahaha.
Huawei already has one on the market, I was not a believer at the time, but I have tried it and it is really versatile. And the price is lower than some Mac book pro.

I just checked out the Huawei foldable tablet in a shop and it is quite impressive at 18". It is 24000 RMB = ~3300 USD. To me a foldable iPad at this size would make sense and it is already done by Huawei so...

Honestly they should just sell a hinge for $99 that connects two iPad Pros together. Maybe shared charging via the accessory pins. And of course an iPadOS update to support the dual tablet configuration.
European regulators have already said they won't allow any foldable device on any product made by Apple.

Great news!

Unless it’s possible to fold glass, foldable devices aren’t practical. I don’t want to touch flimsy plastic that would scratch with my fingernails!

As cool as that looks, i wonder when you'd want to use it over say a laptop? It seems to large and unweildly to use while walking around or for taking notes with a stylus.

Indeed. My only problem with it is the OS is not Android

It is much lighter than a 18" notebook so easier to carry. In the shop it was next to a 15" notebook and a screen looks much more usable at 18". Too bad it runs Huawei's desktop OS instead of Windows or Android.

I remember when wearing earbuds in public used to get you strange looks. That’s exactly how I feel about folding tech devices today. The only thing that might eventually surpass them is wearables, and that future may not be too far off. 👨‍🔬

Sounds like the forum reactions to the 13 inch iPad Pro 10 years ago. Luckily Apple did not listen…

With the new iPadOS windowing system, we need bigger iPad options.

Such large foldable will be difficult to produce. Test the waters with iPhone and learn before moving forward with bigger devices.

Just like the AVP, a solution in search of a problem.

I actually could see the use in something iPad mini sized when folded that folds out into a larger tablet when you need it or just lets you use the on screen keyboard of the iPad without it taking up half the screen that you are working on. That’s a big issue with how I currently use my iPad mini.

But I still think it makes the most sense to get a foldable iPhone done right and see what the market is for it before going all in on other foldable form factors.

Apple's downfall is not copying industry trends. Too many companies out there are taking chances while everyone else see's what sticks. This is why so many new, smaller companies are coming out with Android stuff (Nothing, etc..). They can afford to take chances, because there is nearly nothing left to copy, but only mock and make less expensive. Premium stuff is no longer a trend, but a copying technique. Apple's stuff is just expensive now. They should simply come out with something radical - like a folding MacBook at 12 inches instead of this iPhone-powered junk MacBook.

I was excited to see my grocery store introduce a new foldable banana - but then I noticed it was just a regular banana that somebody ran over with a cart.
