Ironically enough yeahtyeaht, Karma_isA_8itch and others seem to be the real trolls here.
Your constant pessimism and turning up just to refute someones information with your own subjective German Missgunst offers no value at all and sheds a poor light on yourselves.

I kindly suggest you leave the thread until you have something constructive to say other than just bitching around. We get it, you don't believe in anything, please see yourself out, enjoy your life and let others discuss. This is speculation, but not at all costs.

Ok wow that’s a good one. You say Apple Pay will launch in Q2 yet you know shot and have nothing to back that up. I say my opinion if you can’t stand it that’s on you. And seeing how you defended sunny in your posts before and the way you talk.... considering that you are only active AFTER sunny left here leads me indeed to believe that you are just him.

And a word to you PR1985. It’s not bitching to have a different opinion. Just because you believe every word some dude tells you and you badly want Apple Pay you should not be blind and make your own mind up about it. Just seriously look at the past 6 to 9 months. No Apple Pay relating Infos or rumors besides what sunny told us. You believe in all he says even so he was wrong all along.

But there is no point in keeping on talking to you Apple fanboys. It’s always the same with you guys. You cannot say a word against you or you fall in childish behavior and it’s everyone else’s fault but yours. Everyones bitching and stupid and you people have all the knowledge. Just look at nishko. Bringing more and more rumors up that Apple Pay will come here and there because this guy and that guy said it and sunny was right about everything and we will all regret that we bitched on him and oh my bloody god don’t you get it? Well I’m out. Go ahead and keep telling yourselves Apple Pay will launch this week. Or next. Or the week after next. I’ll come back in a year and laugh at you guys still waiting for Apple Pay and still being trolled by wannabe insiders.

"Mit einer Debit-Karte, die nicht die Girokarte ist, machen sie sich quasi selbst Konkurrenz. Umso interessanter, dass neben Commerzbank und Deutscher Bank mittlerweile auch die erste Sparkasse mit von der Partie ist."

Maybe this are also the AP candidates?
Maybe, we´ll see. I´m not an Insider! Otherwise the mob, how sunny2k1 called us, might lynch me, if I do not say it loud and clear.
I´m not an insider but when I read this article, then I understand that the banks understood that we might say goodbye to the Girocard in the future and hello Debit Card and / or Credit Card. I´m guessing folks!

When I came to Germany as a student. I received from Deutsche Bank a Maestro card. It is a pain. I cannot buy tickets online, actually I cannot buy anything online. Like I should use Direct Debit or Paypal. However, from last year Deutsche Bank offer Debit Card. I personally think that Debit Cards are the best option to for EC Card holders.

Here in The Netherlands we have iDeal. It’s a fine solution to pay for goods in The Netherlands. But paying for goods/services outside of The Netherlands, it’s far more difficult to use a suitable payment solution. A credit card is always an option. But if my current account where using a debit card system, I could pay everywhere. I could just select Mastercard as a payment option, fill in the details and I’m done. It’s universal. It’s one reason I want Apple Pay. It makes buying stuff easier. PayPal is also an option. I just don’t trust PayPal.

Edit: my N26 maestro card also have the “debit card numbers” on it. So I’m referring to that system in general.

News from sunny2k1:

Interesting - and why does Boon work then in Germany? Thats a even a master card from a German company. ;) Why do NFC master cards work really well in Germany? Sorry, I really think this "sunny" is still a poser... And there is a reason why himself disappeared here in the thread right after the earnings call and never came back again.

Maybe they simply filter the duplicates, but did not fix the problem?

I know boon has been discussed so many times, but just my impressions from today (took them a week to upgrade me to boon. Plus):
As I didn't want to pay fees with my UK cards (and only use them for Apple Pay back in the UK) I applied for a boon. card, set it all up (which worked perfectly) and set out to pay with it on my shopping trip. Topping up the card with some cash was no problem at all and worked immediately.

First I stopped off at DM Markt, my purchases came to around 11€, and asked the cashier to pay by card. Held my phone up and the payment immediately went through. The fairly bored looking girl didn't seem to be surprised or bothered by me paying with my phone at all. I expected some sort of "no, that doesn't work" or something like that.
Next stop was Aldi (Süd) where I payed for around 60€ and also no PIN was required, I just held the phone up again and the payment went through. On my last stop at Rewe I decided to leave my wallet in the car and went in with just my phone. The shopping amounted to about 30€. My local Rewe has no signs at all regarding contactless payments and the card machines are sort of "hidden" and are all facing the cashiers. It's a bit of a strange shop, as it's not the same sort of layout as other Rewe's I know of. Usually when paying I have to hand them the card (I hate that) and then sign on a receipt. I kindly asked the lady at the till if it were at all possible to pay "contactless". She immediately twisted the card machine around and showed me where to hold the card. She actually seemed quite excited about me asking about contactless! I then pulled out my phone and held it up against the machine... it took about a second for the payment to process. The lady at the till was quite surprised and said she hadn't seen anyone pay with an iPhone before! Got my receipt (where no card details - due to the tokenisation - are stated) and left without a hiccup!

I left Rewe feeling quite happy with my first day with Apple Pay (in Germany). No fees, easy peasy! It worked just as faultlessly as I have experienced it in the UK and France.
I'll be sticking to boon for the foreseeable future and all I can say is: If the German banks continue to block Apple Pay then they can stuff their Girocard. I feel like Germany is ready for it. Come on banks: Let's go!

I have the same experience then you. Sometimes the cashiers even tell me: yes it works, before I hold my Apple Watch next to the payment machine. Paying with the watch is even more fascinating then using the iPhone.

I think I´ll wait until summer and then I might give boon a try. If I download the app from the Italian store it will work, correct?

Download of the app does not matter as long as it is a country where the boon app is available. You can check with fnd.io if it is available in the country you have an Apple ID for. But when acquiring the account with boon, you regional settings count. I would recommend not to choose France or Spain, as you definitely need boon plus even for small payments. In Ireland you don't need boon Plus from start to be able to use it. So you can start 5 minutes later with Apple Pay. The whole process might take 15 minutes. For the AppStore Account, i also used Ireland, as English is easier for me then French or Italian. ( security questions are good readable for me)

I've been a silent reader until now, last week I emailed my local Sparkasse and just got this reply in my inbox. I asked about when it would be available in Germany.

I honestly doubt they even know what they are talking about.

They obviously don´t know what they are talking about.

What did you really expect from the local IT of a Sparkasse? What he means is obviously their own payment system (again), which in my eyes will again only work in Germany and only in supported shops. I myself found the explanation in the FAZ very good, that Giro Card is a real piece of sh*t, as it is a very well locked system, which is not working everywhere. A lot of people think that it is valuable, but as they state it, you cannot pay in some shops online, in foreign countries you can have problems (renting a car for example can be a pain with a girocard, even with maestro). That's why I started to mainly use credit.

Exactly and banks force to use it. I opened a second account at comdirect

Girocard is a historically grown system like there is in many other countries (france, netherlands, japan and so on). The electronic version of it was invented and introduced to the market at a time when they still "copied" creditcards with blue line prints in the USA. (and in some areas and shops, they do it so until now or at least a few years ago)

So calling this system "piece of ****" is a sign of not knowing, where it came from and what it archieved on the technological side.

But hey... it's not from the US and not from Apple. So it must be "****", right? ;) always the same story. The gras is always greener at the other side of the fence. And if I don't know, what I'm talking about, it's always a good idea to think, the other side of the fence must be great.

For world wide use, Girocards are co-branded with maestro/cirrus or vpay for years (btw: vpay startet about 15 years after the girocard forerunner). never had any issues with it at stores or ATMs world wide, if I don't wanted to use my visa or mastercard.

btw.
apple has no problems with non-MasterCard or Visa Systems. Look at Suica for Japan.

And GiroCard would be no problem either. Just in the case, the cards could be registered as maestro cards, as they are supported by Apple Pay today in most markets. This might never be the problem.

And now go one, we need a little more rant und hate about the german market :)

There's nothing to read, we didn't already discuss in this thread. Nothing new.

Mobile Payment in Germany is possible. With Android (with several banks and even boon. is available in Germany on the Android platform). Apple doesn't want competition on its devices and does not allow other apps to use the NFC chip. But does not have the market power (only 15% market share!) to force their terms on the german market, so the negotiations seem to last much longer.

Who is to blame? Either Apple for blocking competition of payment systems on their devices or both sides. But not only the banks. I think, if Apple would open NFC for 3rd party apps, Apple Pay would be already here.
