The watch has failed for me two or three times so far but works for the most part. It can be frustrating as when it does fail it's a bit embarrassing keeping people in line waiting. I end up having to take my phone out. I know it's not the distance of the watch from the reader as I keep it as close to the reader as possible without touching it.
Same experience here. I think it depends on the brand of reader. My watch fails consistently at Panera, although iPhone works just fine. On the watch, I double-press, card appears, I hold watch right up against reader, and absolutely nothing happens. Works okay at Walgreens though. Weird. And yes, awkward too.

You guys embarrass too easy. Be leaders and work with the system and make it work for you, stop worrying what people in line behind you are thinking. How you pay does not make them like you more if you pay fast, they are still absorbed in themselves.

Anyhow, make sure you are holding the watch over the contactless symbol on the reader. The little sideways wifi symbol. If you're too far away it will not work as well. Wait until the transaction is complete. It takes a few seconds for some readers so don't move your hand until the watch has tapped you to say transaction complete. You may be moving away too quickly.

Soon, a swipe will not be a fallback method. Starting this month if the merchant does not accept the new chip cards and fraud takes place they are responsible for the cost. This will have many people looking at the readers and the chips on their cards and asking what to do with it. The lines will be slower for a while if not for your electronic payment then for the chip payment which is not a fast process. Relax a little, understand the biggest reason for paying with ApplePay is security and let the people behind you do what they do anyhow.

Don't talk rubbish. You have no idea what you're talking about. it's got nothing to do with what they're thinking or whether they will like me or not. I don't even know them and couldn't care less whether they like me or not. The point is that in the mornings most people are on their way to work just like me and in a rush. It's not nice to keep people waiting because you're having trouble paying for your order. Think before you post next time.

As for how to use it I don't need a lesson or any advice from you. I'm perfectly capable of using my watch or my phone to pay and it has nothing what so ever to do with the way I do it. I'm not a novice when it comes to technology. It's to do with either the technology in the devices and/or in the NFC readers and not how I use it.

Yes it happened again today in Costa although I tried it again and it worked the second time. The first time there was a strange message on the NFC reader's display stating the device ( my watch ) is not compatible. Obviously there are some improvements to be made in the way it works.

Wow, you're rude.

Mostly works for me, but the reading devices at retailers are hit or miss. They don't always work with my phone either. These various brands of readers need to go through a few rounds of software updates before we will get a reasonable amount of consistency, I'm sorry to say.

Used at Best Buy today. Clerk was amazed that I could pay that way. She said I need to get an Apple Watch.

It is out of their bussiness to support feature of mobile devices, which exists near 2 years now and in two countries only. It is big success to have only 5 fails in 7 tries of Apple Pay use. I see people using Androids and how fast and easy it is when they pay everywhere with NFC.

I agree that it's not about being "embarrassed", but just awkward when there's a line behind you and the NFC terminal isn't working. If I knew it wasn't going to work, I'd just swipe my card and be done much faster. It's the same as being annoyed when someone waits until a basket full of groceries is rang up, and only then starts to slowly pull out a giant check book plus 100 expired coupons. ;) Common sense/courtesy never hurt anyone.

So far I've had pretty good luck with Apple Pay. Only in the Apple Store has it not worked correctly (sometimes I've seen their handheld terminals freeze).

Actually, I prefer using Apple Pay on my watch. The breakthrough for me was learning that all I had to do to initiate the process is a quick double tap the long button and hold the face of the phone to the reader.

I love using apple pay! I had a problem one morning at the grocery store... apparently their terminal wasn't working.... the next time I went it worked fine.

another time I wasn't sure if they took apple pay or not (kate spade outlet)... well it would vibrate and tell me "done" but then they wanted the last 4 of the card... I tried the last four of the device and even the last four of the actual card... tried both the phone and watch... didn't work.... POO! I really wanted the 10% cash back! had to resort to swiping the actual card!

OH..... there is a new thing with the whole discover on apple pay.... I get emails and phone calls all the time now from their fraud department! SO annoying! Saturday I got the email/phone call... confirmed the charges... the very next morning I got a call for the same charges I had confirmed the previous day! I guess because each device has its own number they think its a new card?

Yes I did and yes it was.
Post 27 was an open statement. Post 28 was you quoting me and making a statement about me speaking rubbish. Nothing was directed to you but the reply in post 30 saying you were rude. If you check my post history I think you will see my intentions are always to be helpful but you can't win them all. Saying its OK to take a minute to process payment is not rubbish. Here in the US, chip cards are just starting to come into use and most places are not well trained on their use. All transactions outside of swipe are taking longer to process and as we all learn we will all get faster. My statement simply said, no need to feel bad about the learning process. You took that as an insult somehow but I think you will see if you read it again, it was not directed to you and did not include a quote of yours in the post.

CVS doesn't even support any contactless payment method.. ie. blink on a credit card.

Used a vending machine in Massachusetts today with one of these Vendscreen guys on the front. Worked flawlessly with my watch. I thought I got double-charged (the first product I selected was out of stock) because I got two notifications a minute apart on my phone (probably on the watch too), but looking in my Capital One app just now, I see the first transaction was voided. image.jpegimage.jpeg

Agreed. I've had consistent success at Walgreens, Fresh Market etc. At Panera, consistent failure - but I pull out my iPhone there and that works. Still can't explain it.

works fine at panera, walgreens/duane reade, mcdonalds, etc.

there have been a few times where it had messed up, but that was due to my own user error. i would initiate the double click and hold my arm out, but then pull out too quickly without waiting for the haptic feedback notifying me that the transaction had been fully completed. if you wave your wrist and immediately pull away, the transaction will fail. leave your arm hanging out for a bit longer and wait for the haptic tap/audible ding to make sure the transaction was a success.

can't believe people are talking about swiping a card, the USA is backwards when it comes to paying on card/apple pay. Apple pay has only been here since July and its accepted almost everywhere. Chip and Pin is like 10 years ago, yet the US is only just getting it, wtf do you like card fraud or something

I attempted to use Apple Pay to purchase my Apple Watch Hermès at the Apple Store on Madison Ave. Not only was the Apple Pay transaction declined, but the bank (Chase) suspended the debit card for fear of a fraudulent transaction!

Tonight I used the Apple Pay on the watch to pay for dinner at Panera Bread. It worked! (Yay!) ...and no one cared. lol

However Apple Pay in the UK is limited to 20/30 quid in the vast majority of places where you can use it, that is a big issue I think. Of course you could turn your Waitrose weekly shop into several transactions, which would be a lot of work (separating the items into 30 quid blocks.
