However Apple Pay in the UK is limited to 20/30 quid in the vast majority of places where you can use it, that is a big issue I think. Of course you could turn your Waitrose weekly shop into several transactions, which would be a lot of work (separating the items into 30 quid blocks.

According to post number 189 here Waitrose doesn't have a limit any more or it is at least much higher.

The chip readers take longer than the swipe, and about the same time for me using the watch or phone. Try not to be a such a hurry folks!

I've never once had an issue with Apple Pay on my watch (3 weeks old), and on my phone. Multiple stores, multiple times, I've probably used my watch for over 50 transactions so far in 3 weeks using Apple Pay at different merchants.

Paying with my Watch is one of my favorite features. And I can use it for the vending machines in my building!

(Sometimes it's the little things.)

I've found Apple Pay more miss than hit when it's come to my Apple Watch.

Today, for example, I visited Boots the Chemist. First two transactions (had to process them separately to qualify for some discounts I had) worked aOK.

Went to leave the store and realised I'd forgotten something. Went back to checkout (self service terminal) and ended up using my physical card. Same till I'd used previously (and certainly within in the amount of contactless transactions allowed before flagging up Chip and PIN security verification).

Morrison's, The Co-Operative Food and Marks & Spencer's seem to be the best places I find. In my local(ish) Waitrose and Boots I find I have to hold my Watch right up to the LCD screen for it to work.

I've thus far not gotten Apple Pay to work on my watch at all. I've tried it several times... double click and select the appropriate card, then hold it up to the terminal. I must not be holding it close enough or something. I pull out my iPhone and put it in exactly the same place and it works every time. I'll keep trying because definitely like the watch approach better... more convenient.

Are you making sure to aim the screen? I always do that.

It's embarrassing for the merchant because 90% of the time Apple Pay fails because of their POS system and NOT the Apple watch.

I went to CVS yesterday. Their Apple pay didn't work, their chip interface didn't work. Had to fall back on Fred Flinstone swiping to complete the transaction.
CVS doesn't accept Apple Pay. It will act like it's going to work but then reject it.

I finally got it to work today at Wegmans. I had been aiming it at the bottom of the terminal and the young lady waiting on me told me to aim it at the top of the screen and it worked. On the same terminal I can have my iPhone nearly a foot further away and it works instantly so the watch seems to need to be a lot closer.

Which makes sense because it won't send a signal as far.

It is usually the till operator's fault, I had this problem. I asked to pay contactless, and they enabled card payment on the terminal. Also poor staff training in general (Morrisons staff usually have no idea about limits etc.). Apart from those problems it worked well every time.
it can also be that it is not obvious to the store that you are trying to pay by watch where as if paying by apple pay on a phone is more recognisable.
in simple terms, the till has to be told which form of payment is being used so the machine is expecting a payment of some kind.

not tried it yet. just nervous it will fail and would be embarrassing
Where's your sense of adventure? I have always had my iPhone with me so if the watch doesn't work I can pay by phone in a few seconds. Now if that also didn't work, that would really be embarrassing. But who cares... I don't know the clerk or the people in line!

Works 100% for me. The checker is usually in awe that I just paid with my watch.

I think you should go ahead and try it. I've had the odd occasion when it hasn't worked first time round and I've had to try again. It happened once yesterday and again today but I just end up trying a second time. I am conscious of the people waiting in line behind me but at the same time it doesn't really bother me anymore like it did in the beginning. That's the way I want to pay so why I figure why shouldn't I even if it takes two or three goes. Most of the time it works first time.

I've found since Watch os2 that it works much better than before.

I will apportion some blame on my shoulders for being impatient and not giving the terminal chance to recognise the Watch before removing my arm but it is much, much better.

I must say if it wasn't for Apple Pay on my watch I would have had an embarrassing moment. I went to use my oyster on the bus and sadly I didn't realise it needed topping up. Thankfully I could just pay with my watch and it went through quickly! Problem solved and didn't have to awkwardly get off the bus, top up and wait for the next bus. :D

Many times I have to try 2 or more times before the :apple: Watch will work with :apple: Pay. I do at times have trouble with the double clicking to get to the :apple: Pay mode, but the problem does not stop there, it is surprising how the placement of the card reader makes the successful use of the watch for :apple: Pay difficult.

At McDonald's drive thru they have to hold the scanner out the window, and it is amazing how they can manage to get it into the most inconvenient position for using your watch.

But even in stores with the scanner on the counter you many times have to be a contortionist to get your watch into proper position to be picked up by the scanner.

Over all I do not use :apple: Pay for convenience, but rather for security. I believe that in most cases, whether I'm using :apple: Pay on my watch or my iPhone, it would be faster and more efficient to use my CC. However, the deal swinger is the fact that I firmly believe that the only payment method more secure than :apple: Pay is to use cash. And I try to conduct all my purchasing with this in mind. If I don't totally trust the payment system in a store, and I can't for one reason or another use either :apple: Pay or cash then I leave and go somewhere else.

Still not seeing any of the issues some of you guys seem to be getting. Mine has been flawless, bought the new ATV with my watch yesterday and got appreciative 'oooohhhhh's from the fan boys who hang around the Apple Store LOL

I am mystified that the entire banking sector in the UK has agreed that transactions via contactless can now be up to 30 quid, and yet McDonalds have decided to LOWER the limit from 20 to 15!

We are WAY behind in the UK, most countries using contactless payments now have limits above 200 if they have a limit at all!

I have never used Apple Pay from my iPhone but I have been using Apple Pay from my Watch the past 3 weeks or so.

We have vending machines at work and usually after a workout I hit the Coke machine to get a bottle of water. Used it about 4 times now without issue. That is if you don't count the vending company showing a pending double charge on my card but within a few days it shows the actual purchase price.

No issues at all, very happy not having to carry change with me when I go to the exercise room!
