At my local Subway, they said they supported it but they couldn't get it to work (and I could't even find their NFC reader-- it clearly wasn't connected).

At Subway it is built into the Verifone PIN pads they have, when they hit credit the contactless logo will appear and you can tap (like at Home Depot). If they hit mobile, as they've been trained (wrongly) to do in Missoula, MT, it will instead bring up a QR code for the Subway app (similar to MCX).

Apple fans are too emotional about Applepay.

We have thread after thread of people crapping all over Apple for every reason under the Sun. Is it okay if we have one thread on this site where it's acceptable for people to enjoy something that Apple has done?

50% of all 50% payments of TtP purchases at McDonalds were 'YouTube ApplePay How-To/LookatmeI'musingApplePayforthe1sttime Videos' ;)

Problem I see is that the smaller mom and pop stores would take forever to incorporate this. Even El Famous burrito won't take debit/credit cards and they have some decent Mexican food.
You can only eat McDonald's, taco bell and other large food chains for so long. I got so tired of eating Woopers I don't even go to burger King.

Mom and pop businesses were the first to get NFC other than the major big box stores here. Their terminals are owned by the bank so the next upgrade wave they get, they get NFC. I already use Apple Pay at a few of mom and pop places I frequent already.

It is interesting to see adoption of old tech in US.
In Aus we have "pay as you go" implemented since at least 3 years ago.
All Aus credit and debit cards have a "chip" embedded.
All shops including little ones have the facility to "wave" your card without PIN for any transaction under $100
What's the big deal with Apple Pay ?!

Tokenization is a big one.

We have Chip debit and credit cards too, you guys just finished your transition completely, now it's our turn to get started, that's all.

I also don't know what you mean by pay as you go, but if you're talking about the handheld scanners, we have had that too, since 2001, and I still use it every day at Costco. Stop & Shop has it too on the east coast.

Only doubled? So that means people are using other smartphones as means of payment? I am rather surprised the number is 50/50. Ofc ourse, I expect Apple pay to take the lead very soon, but still.

Meh, everyone else has the right to gloat, especially since we're the last country to switch and we're not even doing it right (signature instead of PIN). Well, I guess NFC is one part we're doing right, at least.

Have a debit card (MasterCard) with NFC from Citibank (but you have to request the NFC otherwise you just get a debit card without NFC). Wouldn't be surprised if their credit cards are the same way. Course CitiBank is not a viable bank for many folks unless you live in a big city.

My BOA card is a debit and credit Visa card. It works great at the Subway where I buy my lunch every Monday and Wednesday. ApplePay has not failed me once at that store. However, I have not used it anywhere else.

Get a BOA card. BOA ATMs are everywhere and they officially support ApplePay

I'm aware that BoA works with Apple Pay. The point is to get a card that doesn't need a phone to use tap to pay. I'd actually be set if Diners Club supported EMV contactless instead of just MSD and/or if AmEx was accepted in more places outside the US than it currently is.

Though, is MSD contactless a big disadvantage outside the US?

I've used my MSD contact less in the UK, and the cashier doesn't notice a difference, this is a good thing as the card didn't have Chip & PIN, But because I tapped the whole wallet, the cashier didn't see, therefore, didn't scrutinize my card.

Me too. Apple Pay will catch on fast and could the become the standard if Apple licenses the tech to others.

What's there to license? It's NFC, I've used it everywhere and never did they say they supported Apple Pay, but they've taken PayPass for years and it works there fine.
