The ING 'Bankieren' app in the Netherlands has received a small update, now supporting Wallet! It is however not possible yet to add your card to it. But I wouldn't be surprised if this were to happen later today (Friday), or at least next week. But I'm betting on today!

There is an old saying in the IT industry when it concerns installing new software in production: "never go live on Friday". Problems will occur with no one in the weekend to fix them. Especially not in the banking industry.

Mr spoiler...;)

Just kidding, you've got a point.
On the other side, it's a 24/7 economy, you think there are no IT people available or working in the weekend.
But then again, Dutchies have been waiting for quite a while, they could wait another few days/weeks/months.
It's not even that more convenient, it's a fact Apple Pay is not faster than tapping your card.

It is faster! Use the Apple Watch... If you are not handicapped and find those POS in stupid positions. Last time @ Starbucks: The cables of the POS were to short. I managed to reach it with some help but...

Option 1 - Get out my wallet. Get out the card. Tap the card. Put the card back in my wallet. Put the wallet back in my pocket.

Option 2 - Double press the button on my watch. Hold watch to reader.

Option 2 is way more convenient for me.

Usually people who never used Apple Pay claim it's not faster, not more convenient etc. That will all change the moment they use it.

Seems like you are not aware that people are already prepared to pay, I have my card in my hand before the cashier even pushes the button, it's done in a second, so NO, Apple Pay is not faster.

And all the other steps before? I push a button move my arm a bit and it is done!

"With card, contactless, please." and activate Apple Pay. Sometimes I´m ready and cashier and POS aren´t. When I activate it the card is ready to pay for 60 seconds.

They have to ask you as well, the amount should be on the card reader first, if it is I tap, done, it takes 1 second, so NO, it's not faster, period.
Steps, there are no steps, I get my card when in line or when she checks the items I bought, so not a nanosecond wasted.

Flawless logic.

Yup

Exactly. Couldn't be more convenient.

Not saying it is not, but it's not faster, maybe I have to say "but it's not faster here", The Netherlands has one of the best and fastest payment systems, there is no place without a card reader, none, and they all have NFC.
The Netherlands has Pin and chip for decades, and NFC since for what...5-8 years.

Still I have to get the card out, even if I do it while standing in line, and I have to put it back in the wallet afterwards. I prefer to just pay with it watch, for me that’s way more convenient. But I understand there’s absolutely no reasoning with your ‘flawless’ logic *insert eyeroll*

I think ING compromised a lot to be the first. They've been bleeding customers to Bunq and other banks.

With the majority of the people already used to NFC payments through the big banks I wonder how big the impact will be.

And the banks, Mastercard/VISA AMEX etc. are happy about all his data.

Option 2: order the apple watch at first :D

I dont use the watch/apple pay - i prefer using my debit card. Takes the same time, a second, to show it to the machine...

Not sure if serious... What makes you think it is less secure?
A physical card is not as secure as Apple Pay is. It can be copied, stolen etc. The bank works with your data from your purchases. To much data on the card itself: Name, card number, CVC on the front or the back of the card.

My card is in a pocket of my iPhone case, getting your iPhone out or card, it's all the same.

What I like about Apple Pay vs contactless paying with my Maestro debit card, is that with Apple Pay I never have to enter a PIN as there’s no >€25 limit per payment or >€50 limit per day for contactless. Some terminal are really stupid, because with a physical card you sometimes then have to put your card in the machine and enter a PIN.
Using Apple Pay in NL through inofficial bunq for quite a while now.

Yeah, well the terminal is not stupid. This is by design. It asks randomly for your PIN code.

People pay with their debit card here 99% of the time. There is no CVC code on a debit card. There is on a credit card, but it is hardly used in retail. Mostly for online purchaches. We’ve had very convenient contactless debit card payments for years. Apple pay will be used but not by a large group. You hardly see any apple watches at all here, but maybe using the iphone. We’ll see.

I guess Maastricht is ahead of Amsterdam in that case, because I see a lot of Apple Watches around here.

Define “a lot”. If you pay attention to amount of yellow cars on the road you will also find that there are lot...
Or the number of red cars...once you start paying attention, there’s a lot of a lot of things. Pun intended.

That must be a Dutch (or possibly Maestro?) thing, since I just checked 10 debit cards from the UK - both Visa Debit and Mastercard Debit - and every one of them had a CVC/CVV code.

Question: do you have magstripes on your debit cards?
