That must be a Dutch (or possibly Maestro?) thing, since I just checked 10 debit cards from the UK - both Visa Debit and Mastercard Debit - and every one of them had a CVC/CVV code.

Question: do you have magstripes on your debit cards?

No only a chip.
[doublepost=1558275812][/doublepost]I replied no, but we do. On both debit and credit card.

There is a cvc code on the credit but not on the debit.
The debit card do have card code on the front and the format depends on the bank. It is a card code, not cvc code.

Define “a lot”. If you pay attention to amount of yellow cars on the road you will also find that there are lot...
Or the number of red cars...once you start paying attention, there’s a lot of a lot of things. Pun intended.
I see them, you clearly don’t. Guess you should pay more attention?

Never said I did not see them. Or that you didn’t. Just are just very few compared to regular watches. Or compared to bank cards. In that context, there are not a lot. But I guess it is very much different where you live.

Yeah, well the terminal is not stupid. This is by design. It asks randomly for your PIN code.
If it just asks for a PIN, that would be fine, but some terminals are stupid because they cancel the payment and I would have to put the card with chip inside the terminal and it doesn’t just use the contactless payment method with PIN for verification.

BTW, with Apple Pay there is no PIN and that is also not necessary because your phone or watch need to be unlocked/authenticated for allowing payments, so I consider that a safer, easier and faster system in general.

I have a credit card and a debit card linked to Apple Pay. They both require a PIN if the purchase is more than a certain amount, but not always.
I feel much more secure using my watch for tap and pay rather than extracting my credit card from my wallet. And of course the watch only works if it is on my wrist and I have entered the passcode.
I am visiting the Netherlands in June and look forward to Apple Pay being activated there. However I was able to use my watch for Apple Pay in Fiji last year using a tap and go terminal at an airport cafe. Fiji is not on the official list ( https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207957 ) so it seems that it might work with foreign cards before an official launch - which seems to be linked to a local bank coming on board.
According to that Apple list, ING does not support Apple Pay in any European country so it looks like the Netherlands will be the first.

You can use Apple Pay in any country as long as the terminals accept contactless payments. I’ve been using Apple Pay everywhere in NL for over a year with Bunq despite it not being launched here.

Contactless is widely accepted in NL, however MasterCard/Visa is not (in my experience). For the tourist locations, it shouldn’t be a problem. What kind of debit card do you have on Apple Pay? With Maestro, you’ll be fine, with MasterCard debit, you may find quite a few locations that may not work with it.

Yes, that is stupid. I know it randomly asks and above certain amounts. And yes, sometimes it doesnt work and you are forced to insert card into the slot and enter your pin. I am looking forward to trying out apple pay.
My main bankaccount is with abn amro though .

Apple Pay will likely launch in the Netherlands in the very near future, as the service has now been elevated to "beta" status internally at Apple ahead of its much-anticipated rollout in the country. The server-side change was first spotted by WolfMeister's Small Tools and confirmed by MacRumors.

Earlier this month, Dutch bank ING revealed that Apple Pay is "coming soon" to the Netherlands. Apple has since confirmed the upcoming launch on its Dutch website, but without providing a specific timeframe.

Apple Pay has been gradually expanding across Europe and the Middle East, launching in Poland, Norway, Kazakhstan, Belgium, Germany, Czech Republic, Saudi Arabia, Austria, and Iceland over the last year. The Netherlands is one of the most populous countries in Europe that is still awaiting Apple Pay.

Apple Pay is also coming soon to select banks in Hungary and Luxembourg, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Greece, Lithuania, Liechtenstein, Latvia, Malta, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia.

Apple Pay can be used anywhere contactless payments are accepted with a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch.
