Subway no longer supports Apple Pay. I tried to go there and use it and couldnt. I didnt have any cash on me so... they were out of luck that day.

I believe they still accept it, but the level of awareness in individual stores is low and I have encountered some who don't know how to make it work. Their machines also have some weird QRCode pay system which allows you to pay with their app. If the cashier hits that button for your payment instead of just hitting the button saying you are paying with a credit card, then the machine won't recognize an NFC payment.

Recently, my local Subway has not been working but a location out of town was. Subway was/is a launch partner right? If anything, I think a change was made that broke it versus turning it off all together. At least I would hope so.

Apple Pay is just a tiny blip on the radar for now. Not enough big name merchants support it (due to them wanting to use CurrentC) and considering how many iPhones are out there relative to how many support NFC, it's just a gimmick so far.

Not one Subway (even though they are on the supported list) where I am has the terminals, no Whataburger in my area has it working (although they have the terminals), and grocery stores don't have it either. It's not free to upgrade your terminals and train your employees, so I get that.

It's very early in the mobile payment ecosystem. Apple is making companies and the public more aware of mobile payments, but the merchant side of it is still a pain.

Who thought it would fail exactly? Fail being the operative word. I don't think "fail" would be the right word choice. "be popular" or whatnot perhaps. But given Apple's collaboration with the banks and the investment involved, and requirements on the retail side - I don't think "fail" was on the table from the opinion of the "people" - but rather how much/often they would use it.

pretty sure fail was used quite often in apple pay threads in the past.

My challenge is remembering to use Apple pay because most places I go to dont take it. For example, at CVS they have contactless payment which i tried but then find out apple pay doesnt work. Super annoying.

I'm guessing you missed the whole CVS / RiteAid NFC/CurrentC debacle??

I can't wait for stores that specialize in products used above the waist to take it.

What in the world are you talking about?? Besides the footlocker stores listed above, aren't they all used above the waist?

Confused. Had this location *previously* accepted Apple Pay and removed it? Or has this location potentially just not gotten around to installing NFC, yet?

There's [not] an app for that

I don't have time to memorize a growing list of merchants. I figured they would put an Apple icon in their readers if they accept Apple Pay, but I haven't seen that yet. Until Apple Pay becomes ubiquitous, it's hard to know when you are in a store that takes Apple Pay.

I want an app that will give me a ping or vibrate when I walk into a store that accepts Apple Pay. When I check my phone (or :apple:Watch), it will have an Apple Pay icon and a thumbs up.

Regal Cinemas is listed. Has anyone ever seen a Regal Cinemas with NFC terminals? Maybe it's just for concessions.

Remember That "pesky chip and PIN mandate" means they'll have to install the terminals by October, they probably just opted for ones that will have NFC as well.

With the exception of whole foods there is no Apple icon. Look for the PayPass icons which are now almost everywhere that isn't an MCX member. I just paid at a hole in the wall mom and pop restaurant and they were amazed and wanted me to show them all how it worked. They didn't even know their machine could do it because they thought it was old.

I went to Subway a few weeks ago, and they'd moved the card reader to a spot where the customer can't get to it. So I assumed that they were no longer taking mobile payments. It's a shame because I used Apple Pay there several times with great success.

Apple Pay support has been extended to 14 additional retailers in the United States, including Bashas', Coca-Cola Vending, Dan's Fresh Market, Dick's Fresh Market, Fuddruckers, Jamba Juice, Jersey Mike's Subs, JetBlue, Lin's Fresh Market, Maceys, Office Max, Pep Boys, Regal Cinemas and Walt Disney World, as spotted by AppleInsider.

Apple CEO Tim Cook announced on Monday during the company's "Spring Forward" media event that Apple Pay support will be rolling out at some 40,000 Coca-Cola vending machines across the United States, with the mobile payments service now accepted at over 700,000 locations nationwide. Apple Pay remains limited to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in the United States, although Apple has expressed plans to launch the service in other countries.

GameStop and Marriott International also announced Apple Pay support this week.

6 of these 12 retailers are owned by one company, very misleading

I've seen an Apple icon on the readers of every place I have patronized that offered Apple Pay.

Apple Pay itself is not a service offered by the retailer, NFC payments is. For example, my local Circle K doesn't have an Apple Pay logo, just the PayPass logo, and my iPhone works there just fine. In fact I get a 79 cent 44 oz drink almost every day I'm at the office and it never has failed me

Same goes for mom and pop restaurants that don't have an Apple sign but an NFC sign, works great there too. Mom and pop ones are a lot harder to spot, and most of the time you have to tell them how to process the sale. I never got turned down though as everyone was just eager to see how it worked.

Can't wait to do the same with Apple Watch and turn more eyes.

Yeah, but it's always the case that when new standards are introduced it takes time to ramp up. Apple may be one of the only companies that has the ability to launch an initiative like this. It does look like it's picking up steam more and more. I still don't use it often, but when I do I don't get weird stares anymore.

I wish there was more detail. For instance:

- Some of these are simply adding NFC terminals.

- Some are adding Apple Pay support to their iOS store app.

- And some are adding iBeacons.

A lot of it is because of terminals being replaced in advance of the October EMV deadline.

I think this confusion might be slowing adoption of Apple Pay. When Apple flashed a big list of retailer logos on the screen, a lot of people must have thought "I don't shop at any of those stores! I guess it will be years before I can start using Apple Pay" and never bothered setting it up after they got their iPhone 6.

It's bank centric, not retailer centric. But Apple continues to make it sound like it's an individual opt-in process.

Saying that "Subway", as in the entire company, doesn't support Apple Pay anymore isn't true. They are franchised so each store generally operates independently.

The Subway by my house uses a smaller terminal and it takes Apple Pay. The cashier had no idea until I used it.

Stores like Subways which are owned by franchisees likely have trouble with training because the franchisees don't have the resources to do so.
