You must not have used Pay. Super simple. Super fast. I would never go back and hate that more retailers don't support it here in the U.S. (yes I'm looking at you Target and Walmart).

Meh. Walmart is causing problems over here too. Their UK branch which you may or may not know is called 'ASDA' are also refusing contactless payments and Apple Pay purely because Walmart doesn't support it in the US. Can't really understand the logic of a company that believes staying in the past is the right business move.

Spoke to the guy who deals with all our card machines at work and he said we were all set to accept Apple Pay. Furiously excited to serve my first Apple Pay customer. Also bitterly awaiting being able to use it myself - Barclays customers please stand up!

The £20 limit is annoying though... :(
Is there a way to know which shops don't have this limit?

That changes in September, to £30. They announced new laws for it recently. I imagine it'll go up by £10 year on year, possibly until it reaches £50, which would seem fair cause that'll cover most payments. But if the banks continue to agree it's safe and secure and if crime continues to remain low, they'll probably up it to £100.

You tried apple pay much anywhere? We live in the same city so was curious where it works.

Would be handy if TFL enabled monthly and annual travelcards to be loaded on the iPhone, but I guess it boils down to Apple having to open NFC to third party apps and services, and that's not likely to happen anytime soon...

I'd be surprised if this doesn't make an appearance soon, for both Apple Pay and regular contactless cards.

TfL don't need access to NFC on the iPhone to enable this, it can be done entirely on the web via your TfL online account. The system would simply match your card number to one that has a Travelcard active on it, and not charge you at the end of the day.

Also, the £20 (soon £30) contactless limit won't apply to Apple Pay (Samsung Pay, Android Pay, etc) once terminals are upgraded to support CDCVM.

Im finding Apple Pay to be super useful, sometimes its not very fast though. In my local convenience its takes longer to actually use AP than to insert card and put pin in, thought could be there service provider.

Other than that is amazing, feel like i can just leave my wallet at home now, barely carry cash anymore.

They hadn't issued any contactless credit cards as of January 2015, but an earlier poster has one currently. So I will see about getting one. I just gone one two weeks ago and it wasn't contactless :( My HSBC debit card has been for a while though.
HSBC have been doing contactless cards for ages, I'm on my second already. Had a contactless card with them for over a year. Not sure about contactless credit cards though...

That's crap

I managed to activate mine on my air 2..just need to try it out

I don't think Apple have activated the NFC chips in the iPad Air 2 or iPad mini yet - although they have them. Meaning you can't use your iPad for Apple Pay at a NFC terminal, but you can use them for online purchases. You'll need an iPhone 6 or Apple Watch to use Apple Pay in the real world. Or such is my understanding.

Yes I'm quite specifically talking about credit cards, please read

In my experience (M&S, Tesco, Pret, TfL tube/bus, etc) there is no noticeable speed difference between Apple Pay and a regular contactless card.

What does slow down Apple Pay is the whole Unlock Phone -> Find & tap Passbook App -> Authenticate with Touch ID routine.

But, I'm told that in iOS 9, there is a shortcut to go directly to Apple Pay from the lock screen, which should improve things greatly.

Yup, double press the home button. It's great.

Also, you could just move the iPhone near the terminal and it does the same shortcut. Not useful for TfL tho. Might be quicker than what you're doing until iOS 9 is out.

Putting aside the differences such as getting out your wallet vs your phone, authenticating with thumb vs pulling out the right card etc. etc... Has anyone noticed any extra time from the beep (when it's registered) to when it's authorised/approved?

It may be some kind of reverse-placebo, or just a random thing that has many many variables, but in the 3 times I've used Apple Pay it felt like I was waiting slightly longer for it to be approved. Only like an extra second maybe.

HSBC doesn't work. Tried private and business account.
I'm not really surprised they are incredibly crap at all software.

Disagree, mine worked straightaway! If you want a bank with crap software head to the Co-op. Still no business mobile app, let alone anything else.

Have you ever heard of Tesco Express or Sainsburys Local? I guess not. The average transaction is less than £20.

Besides they are getting rid of the limit in Sept/Oct anyway so I'm not sure what your point is? It's not Apple's fault that the UK Cards Association set the limit of £20.
Pretty sure you are wrong about them getting rid of the Limit in September. As far as I am aware the limit is being increased from 20 to 30 in September.

My thoughts exactly. Couldn't of said it any better. I would like to try the apple watch for apple pay.

I was issued a new credit card from HSBC two months ago after I lost my wallet. It was not contactless.

Correct. However, retailers who upgrade their terminals to support CDCVM do not have a £20 (or £30) limit for Apple Pay transactions. Various retailers including H&M, Boots, Apple, and others already support this.

I bank with Halifax and have a Barclaycard, so had to order myself a Santander credit card

Love using it, no need to carry my wallet anymore. I'm guessing I don't need my phone either, but haven't tested that

tried Applepay for the first time at the weekend. First attempt in Boots on Saturday failed and I ended up paying by credit card. Second attempt on Sunday worked first time, just held the phone up to the reader with my thumb resting on the button and bingo! brought up the card details immediately, gave a little buzz to confirm payment and the machine coughed out a receipt.
