They hadn't issued any contactless credit cards as of January 2015, but an earlier poster has one currently. So I will see about getting one. I just gone one two weeks ago and it wasn't contactless :( My HSBC debit card has been for a while though.

I'm not with them, but my partner is, and we had to report his card "lost" and then when requesting a new one asked for contactless which was sent.

They don't seem to be issuing as standard unlike most other banks.

I've used Apple Pay four times now in the past couple of days in a variety of stores and it's worked flawlessly each time. Really useful, great job Apple.

I really like the fact that your transaction history shows up on your phone too - it's really handy to keep track of things, as generally debit card payments don't show up on my statement for a few days; this means I no longer need to count up the receipts to work it out.

They are designed to work no more than 10cm from a reader.

I suspect that tales of this kind of fraud are Daily Mail style stories.

I meant that the 'baddies' can scan your pocket with readers to read your contactless cards - they can't do that with Apple Pay.

I added my First Direct (HSBC) contactless VISA debit card very easily on Tuesday night.

I can see ApplePay being useful for website purchases, but for payments in-store I'd have to take my bank card out of my iPhone wallet case and keep it out of the way before tapping my iPhone on the POS terminal, otherwise it's random as to whether the payment will be taken from card or iPhone ...

There's something I'm not sure about: do you have to open an app? The "Passbook" app?

On the UK info page it says, "there’s no need to open an app or even wake your display" yet the picture beside it shows someone holding an iPhone with the Passbook app open - at least that's what it look like.

Help on this please?

Oh... I think I understand.. when you hold the phone next to the terminal, that screen shows up??

Which iOS version do you need to be on to obtain this?

Currently on iOS 8.1.2, change my region to USA and I can see Apple Pay via Passbook however when asked for Apple ID password i get the following message "Could not set up Apple Pay, an error occured while setting up Apple Pay"

Anyone have a solution?

No, that won't happen. Whatever you use to pay with using NFC, it has to be really close to the terminal. Unless your phone or watch is physically attached to your regular contactless cards, there can't be any kind of clash or random card selection.

You can open Passbook prior to payment and pick your card and authorise, or you can just put your iPhone near the terminal and it will wake the display and open directly into passbook. In iOS9 you can double tap the home button to bring it up directly, so you can pre-authorise your fingerprint for 1 minute, which is greatly useful for use on TfL.

If you're in the UK, you don't need to change to US. It might be that you need to have 8.4 though for it to work in the UK. Maybe 8.1.2 won't cope with UK.

As the poster said, he has an iPhone wallet, which is a case, with card slots, like a wallet, which will cause a clash.

Just posting (for information) in case anyone else still can't add their HSBC debit or credit cards (like me).

I briefly had my debit card added (and working) yesterday for 30 minutes, however it was removed to try and solve issues with adding my credit card, and now I can't add any HSBC cards to my watch's passbook.

HSBC have just confessed that they're still having some serious issues with VISA debit and credit cards starting with a 4 for unknown reasons, they're basically blaming VISA but they do claim it's not just HSBC having these problems but 'other banks too'.

They don't know what the problem is, they're not sure what to do about it and can only suggest I try again in 3-4 days.

I had a problem with my HSBC credit card yesterday, I ended up removing it because i couldn't get a verification code. Tried again first thing today and it verified as quick as the debit card did yesterday. Both now up and running. Seems the problems have been sorted overnight.

Sadly not for all of us, I can't get to the verification step now, then I accept the terms and conditions and then get a 'Card Not Added. Contact your card issuer for more information'.

I'm not getting a notification when I use my HSBC debit card :( The option is enabled though... Am I the only one?

All VISA cards start with a 4 - so they must be having serious issues with all of them!

Briefly had my HSBC debit card added (and made a purchase) but no luck with my credit card at all.

During the troubleshooting with HSBC and Apple we restored my Watch to factory settings and then tried again and now nothing will add at all, just getting an error message saying 'Contact your card issuer for more information'. HSBC now saying it's VISA's fault and not theirs.......hardly impressive is it.

I can neither add my debit or credit card and repeatedly getting the same 'Contact your card issuer for more information' message. I'm in the USA on business until tomorrow, so I'm hoping it's a just location thing. Other cards (with other banks) have worked brilliantly so far since the launch of Apple Pay. Not been impressed with HSBC recently.

EDIT: My credit card starts with a 4, as does my debit, so it looks as though I'm in the same boat.

I made an expensive purchase at the Regent Street Apple Store last weekend. My offer of paying with Apple Pay was poo-pooed by the sales assistant, and he said that it was easy to fake fingerprints.

Go figure!

If I were the manager of that store, I would've fired that employee on the spot.

It's ridiculous how cashiers sometimes don't think things through before they speak or act in the presence of a customer.

They have finally called me back with an update, they now think that it's because I had previously added both my debit and credit cards and then removed them (when un-pairing the watch for a reset), that when attempting to re-provision either cards it's being blocked by VISA for some unknown reason. Still no estimate on when or if it might be fixed (or not).

I know that VISA cards start with a four, I groaned when the 'manager' from HSBC's Apple Pay team tried to fob me off with that excuse as clearly most people are now having no problems. They've now asked me to stop trying to add any of my HSBC cards while they try and work out what the problem is, and if my card numbers, or address, or apple ID is on some sort of 'black list' (their words not mine).

Not massively encouraging really, this is a bank that I trust with virtually all of my money, car loan, credit card, mortgage? etc etc. I think a secondary account with a different bank might be a wise move, I've not been impressed with HSBC for a while now either.

HSBC have now fixed whatever the problem was (for me at least) and I've been able to register both of my cards.

To be fair to them once they admitted/realised there was a problem with my (and a few other customers) cards, and that it wasn't me just entering the card details incorrectly, they have managed to solve the problem reasonably quickly. They've also given me £50 to apologise for the inconvenience, which was nice.
