Is there a consensus about HSBC credit cards and Apple Pay? Got my new card through today, activated online, but Apple Pay just won't accept it.

There's no contactless symbol on it like my debit card, and I can't find a single mention anywhere online of any HSBC credit card being contactless.

Debit card works fine, and the Apple Pay team said everything looks fine from their end, so there's no logical reason it shouldn't be working.

Anyone had a similar experience and got it rectified?

My HSBC debit cards and my HSBC credit card are not contactless, they all work with Apple Pay.

Thanks for the confirmation. Must be something else causing an issue for me then. I had the same problem with my debit card on hsbc launch day, but it randomly fixed itself after an hour or so. Tried again this morning with my credit card but no go. Just gotta wait I guess.

HSBC have had problems with their credit cards. I suspect it's one of the main reasons they ballsed up the launch and delayed by 2 weeks.
 
tried Applepay for the first time at the weekend. First attempt in Boots on Saturday failed and I ended up paying by credit card. Second attempt on Sunday worked first time, just held the phone up to the reader with my thumb resting on the button and bingo! brought up the card details immediately, gave a little buzz to confirm payment and the machine coughed out a receipt.

I'm more than a little disturbed that my (Amex) Apple Pay purchases only seem to work about half the time. That's fine, it's easy enough to retry. BUT... when the phone says "Done", and the contactless terminal says "contactless card not presented", there's something very iffy indeed going on. It smacks of a suspect protocol. "Done" should only be stated on the phone when all parties (the phone, the card reader and the payment processor) have confirmed the transaction.

Considering my debit card is working, that tells me everything on apples end is fine. HSBC tell me my account is fine and the credit card is successfully activated for regular use, therefore it must Visa standing in the way.

The only logical reason is because the card is literally a day old and has yet to be used to make a purchase.

Just gonna have to sit tight for a few days and see what happens.

Why must it be visa? My HSBC debit card is visa and it works fine. Other banks have Visa Credit Cards. Only HSBC have the major problems with Visa credit cards. Therefore, combined with the fact that HSBC delayed their launch of Apple Pay, it's obviously HSBC at fault.....

Maybe it is HSBC, but the verification process goes through 3 stages; Apple, bank, and card company (in this case Visa).

I'm just trying to run the process of elimination; and since Apple pay works on my phone already, and I've called hsbc and the apple pay team have said theres no logical reason why it shouldn't work, that leaves visa. Conveniently, they are the only ones who we can't directly contact. It could be the bank missing something of course, but at this point I'm 100% sure its not Apple's fault at least, so that leaves 2 out of 3 suspects.

There's no logic to it being Visa though, your process of elimination makes no sense. If it was Visa, all the other banks Visa cards would have issues, which they haven't. The facts point to it being HSBC, who are, unsurprisingly, trying to shift the blame.

The reason I think it's visa is because somebody else reported being told that visa had blocked their card, and that the advisor told me that if it didn't work after a few days, they'd have to all visa.

I'm betting HSBC told that person, which again, points to HSBC palming off again, trying to shift the blame. The only way it could logically be Visa, is if all the other banks using Visa also had the same problems. Which they don't. Which just proves that logically, it's HSBC and they're trying to blame anyone else, than admit it is their cock up.

A Valid point. I was gonna call them this evening anyway to chase up as it still ain't working.
