Not really because it's based off Google Wallet which predates Apple pay by several years.

Not only is the name a copy but when you read what Andoid Pay does you will think oh wait Apple already did that. Much like what people initially thought of Apples payment system except Apples is different as there are no cards involved and its used in conjunction with tough id rather than login password or something a cahsier needs to scan a qr code to use.

Since I buy most things online, I don't really have the need to go into a lot of stores. So that's why I just used it last week. But as more retailers get this, I'll find reasons to use it. It's really when small retailers move to it that we'll see it take off. For example, there's a really great bakery store I buy from every Friday morning when my friends come over. If they had NFC, I'd use it. If restaurants had NFC, I'd use it. If the NYC subway allowed it, I'd use it, etc.

So we're waiting for this to happen. It's just not all there yet.

Nyc does have it....in taxis and duane reade and the mom and pop delis nyc is litered with have it. I used passbook apps for starbucks and at my gym.

----------

Passbook has next to no developer support though. I'm not sure about in the US, but in NZ there are no Passbook apps in the App Store (well, there's one, HungryHero, but it doesn't actually work in NZ).

In the US there is great support for it. Starbucks, duane reade/walgreens, equinox, all major airlines, bus lines, trains meetup groups, evites and conference software, sporting event tickets...

----------

Except it's not an invasion of privacy if you agree to use the service. And You have it a bit wrong. Business like to track their customer's behaviors so they can better communicate to them - whether it's an offer, similar products, etc. It's cyclical - and not just about the tracking or just about incentivizing.

And from a consumer perspective, it's actually a better experience. I would much rather have ads, offers, emails, etc ONLY sent to me based on my purchase history, geography, weather, etc than constantly seeing/being bombarded with ads that have ZERO relevance to me.

But maybe you're different. Maybe you like spam and useless ads.

I do get annoyed with businesses sending me information about things for women when Im a guy. Its like do they even think before they send stuff out that has zero relation to me.

Sure, but when 2/3rds of all Apple Pay users are having issues at checkout, it's not exactly a ringing endorsement for using Apple's system. That lofty 1.2m+ POS partners might be a stretch if people aren't using it either. Not exactly sure who or what's to blame for these problems to date, but Apple Pay seemingly has a long way to go before gaining any traction with the mainstream public.

Apple Pay would have a long way to go regardless. It was smarter for them to release when not all merchants had the capability so they could get daya and make improvements based on it before it gains traction. The laws on nfc are set to change at the end of the year. Its better if Apple/banks/merchants fix the glitches now as opposed to later.

It would be good if they actually promoted ios9 using features actually available to everyone! We're still waiting for iTunes Radio in the UK (ios7 launch feature!) let alone Apple Pay.

If ios9 is full of U.S. only features again, I might need to reconsider my relationship with Apple,

Not really because it's based off Google Wallet which predates Apple pay by several years.

But Google Wallet requires you to top-up and you can't use it with foreign transactions. It was closer to PayPal than Apple. At least that was before Apple Pay came out. Not sure if Google changed their way of using Wallet.

Anyways I don't see CurrentC being any form of competitor to Apple Pay. I think MCX went to China, saw everyone using AliPay/TenPay (which uses QR codes and links to your bank account/credit card) and thought that was the way to go in the US. On the contrary, I think China will try to move towards more secure platforms and MCX will makes the same mistakes (including a lot of fraud) if they think their current method is the way to go.

Congrats, but you unfortunately are one of the few actually using Apple Pay. Wish I had vending machines (I'm hungry).

Is there any data on usage?

No release of iOS has been 'full of U.S. only features'. iTunes Radio and Apple Pay are services which can't be automatically launched worldwide on day 1.

iTunes Radio is odd, as you would have expected it to have spread by now, but plans for Beats might have delayed it.

Apple Pay is less than a year old and there are already rumours to launch it in Canada and China. I wouldn't be surprised if, with the launch of the next iPhone, it was rolled out to more countries.

As for needing to consider your relationship with Apple. Empty threat. Get a Windows phone and have significantly less third-party apps, or move to Android, and wait 6 months for software updates (if they appear at all).

For someone who's reason for switching would be 'fed up of waiting for Internet services' having to wait for Android software updates, or apps to make it to Windows phone, would make the waiting problem much worse.

it's weird and a bit off-topic but i want my own iBeacons for the house. love it for my guests to get a message telling them where the can is when they enter for a party.

But analysts have noted that a missing piece from Apple Pay was a rewards program to keep users returning to participating merchants.

eh what about the ease of use and just making life better for the end user and everyone else?

duh ****ing anylists lost in the real world :roll eyes:

When will we get Apple Pay in England?

In 82015, perhaps. I'm probably being optimistic.

----------

And if only it would come to Australia! Every store I have been to for the past few years all have contactless now. Would actually be a little strange if they didn't have it to be honest! The technology is there...come on Apple, we is hungry for Apple Pay

Is you hungry for a good education, too?

I trust they still teach spelling in the former penal colony.

----------

Whatever encourages more retailers to put in Apple Pay in their stores, fine by me.

Whatever? Seriously? So if Apple pays retailers to burn down their competitors if they agree to take Apple Pay, that's fine by you?

I'm glad I'm still in possession of morals.

Passbook is a bust and still waiting for more of "my" stores to take Apple Pay - and frankly, for all the hoopla, haven't seen that many using it either, unless they're all doing McDonald's drive-thru.

Here in this Sceptred Isle, Apple Pay is a bust. iTunes Radio is a bust. The Apple Watch is a bust. PassBook is a bust. Ping was a bust. We are surrounded by busts.

I guess something gets lost in translation across the pond. Apple's way of saying thank you to Ive's home country is a slap in the face.

Thanks for the busts, I guess.

CurrentC is DOA as it is.

With Target going to Apple Pay it pretty much leaves it as a Walmart only operation. Game is over

Walmart is working on there in house pay system and will blow everyone out of the water

I use it often. I have seen quite a few vending machines in varied settings with the contactless sign, and every one that I've tried DID accept Apple Pay.

I use it all the time too, on my phone and my watch.

There are a lot more people than you think using Apple Pay. It's the #1 NFC payment out there.

I just got word that my card issuer plans to "look into" offering ApplePay next year. It's frustrating that the rollout is taking this long, but I guess that's to be expected.

I think Google Wallet changed well before Apple Pay. I only use Google Wallet for their music service and an occasional purchase (not really using NFC to do so). But there was never a time I needed to "top up" - it charges my card. There's no need to "fund" the account.

This is a pretty cool turn of events and it might actually get me to use apple pay.

Huh? So you can use Apple Pay now right now, but you choose not to, because of no rewards program that might save you $2.00? Do you know Apple Pay is the most secure way to use credit cards on the planet right now?

Rewards programs should have zero influence on using Apple Pay. That's not the reason to use it. Its faster, easier and safer. That's why.

I just wished that apple pay took business credit cards, such as chase ink bold. or any!!

+1 This. Let's get it to more retailers first. I WANT to use my Apple pay, but most retailers are not taking it yet.

This is the issue Apple faces and, at least in the States, is primarily due to retailers stuck on the old swipe tech. All my credit cards have all been switched over to that chip thing which is less supported than Apple Pay.

Check out American Express. My business card with them has Apple Pay support.
