They can be as happy as they like about it. I'm not exaggerating anyone's posts. I quoted one post in this thread.

I see the post you quoted, and neither that nor any other post in this thread says anything about lying awake at night in anticipation or drooling to shop at Walgreens.

And I didn't say that someone specifically said that. I said I wasn't lying awake over it. :) It's a combination of sarcasm and humor, that's all. Some take things much to seriously. :)

So Apple pay will only work with a handful of the largest banks in the nation? Suddenly it becomes useless to anyone using a slightly smaller, or regional, bank... Kinda pointless if BANKS have to opt in, too; it is bad enough that retailers have to opt in (if more understandable).

Yes, kind of a drag. When I initially read it worked with Visa and MasterCard I had made an assumption it would work with any card with the logo. Bad assumption. It was one of the biggest things I was looking forward to when I receive my 6+. It would also seem like it would seriously slow down adoption. I hope one of my banks goes for it.

The implication was that others were lying awake over it.

I don't enjoy judging other people for what they find exciting. I'm not saying that someone in this thread is specifically doing that, of course ;)

I am guilty of taking things too seriously sometimes, and usually people I debate with are taking it too seriously as well. Which is an awful combination. So I'll take a chill pill now...

Credit Card Rewards Points

Does anyone know if you would still get your credit card rewards points/bonus points when using Apple Pay?

I know a lot of the fine print for the card of different companies state that contactless payments don't count towards earning points or bonus points and wanted to know if that would be the case here?

Apple is very much in the computer business. Personal computing and Mobile computing is still pretty much their core business and will remain so for the foreseeable future. :apple: Pay is a service that they provide to their customers. It is not a stand alone business. If it were apple would be rolling it on to the entire mobile industry through Android and Windows devices. NFC terminal integration for retailers will most likely be a part of a broader strategy to allow (either immediately or in the future) all NFC based payments to be compatible.

If only apple was working with a company that did a lot of the behind the scenes implementation and services work for companies. Perhaps one with three letters in their logo and an ironclad reputation for quality.

With the high profile of these partnerships I think it would be a long shot for them now to work with rewards. Especially American express

An elegant and simple solution to a complicated problem.

Furthermore, in true Apple fashion, people won't know that they needed ApplePay until they start using it.

This has Jobs DNA imprint all over it. This EXACTLY what Apple is all about.

What a great way to send your transaction data directly to the NSA for evaluation.

I'm so confused as to why people keep asking this over and over. At launch, you can use any Visa, Master Card or AMEX credit/debit card that is issued from certain banks such as Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Citi. For the full list, check out Apple's website.

Amex has its own bank so any Amex that you got directly from them should work. Visa and MasterCard would depend on the bank.

I've already told my bank.. two months to announce plans to participate or I'm gone. I've got far more loyalty to saving my own time than I do any bank. lol.

Or is that just blind loyalty to Apple?

The rest of us in the world will continue having our time wasted.... How exactly is apple pay faster than contact less payments ?

Wasting your time is changing your shopping habits to shop in places that offer one payment system ;)

Yup , introducing something that is so awesome but only works under certain conditions or locations ;)

Make me think of the amazing FireWire , thunderbolt etc etc.
Went to the Apple Store on the weekend to enquire about hooking up two non thungerbolt minitors to an air with a friend. He was very unimpressed when he realized it meant buying two apple screens with thunderbolt. He already had two very good monitors at home. This is EXACTLY what apple is about. It's really simple if you use what they tell you to use .

All you need is a thunderbolt to <insert connector here> adaptor. Thunderbolt to VGA, HDMI, and DVI are all available.

Your friend's two very good monitors have either VGA to DVI connectors... or maybe even HDMI.

Adapters exist to connect his Macbook Air to any of those connections.

It's not as dire a situation as you're making it out to be :D

Apple should have anticipated this for the iPhone 5, or at least the iPhone 5S and built NFC right in. Then they could state there are already millions of compatible users out there.

Now, you have to have an iPhone 6, live in the US, have a credit card from a specific bank and shop in a specific shop. While these requirements may hold true for some very loyal apple fans, they're not for the rest of the world. No ordinary person will switch banks over this, or shop at another store.

I'm also worried about the robustness of the service. Every other day Siri tells me she cannot take requests right now, iTunes match is buggy and slow as hell, photo stream misses several of my photos, I would not trust my files with iCloud Drive based on years of experience with iCloud, ...

If Apple pay fails for somebody three times, they will never use it again, so I hope apple has worked long and hard on this one.

Apple pay goes over the line. I don't want to be any further immersed in my iPhone. So I'll be going against this tide and use the plastic I always have.

Obviously.

Apple can only control its products. ApplePay is offered on newest iphones with NFC, running a future iOS 8 version via passbook, and authenticated by Touch ID.

It's called a business model. Which is accomplished through an ever growing (and now fairly ubiquitous ) ecosystem.

I'd say they've done a pretty good job thus far.

Apple have worked long and hard on this. As have the payment providers. VISA have allegedly put 700 man years into it.

This has the potential to make Apple more $$$ than anything else they've done so far. If the security turns out to be as ironclad as even the financial institutions are now saying, this is going to be a watershed moment for the company.

The potential for earnings growth with their payment system eclipses anything that came before.
Well done Cupertino!

It hasn't even come out yet. Give it a few years before declaring it a rousing success.

Apple has been known to develop great ideas and royally F up the execution.

awesome idea!!!

Apple is now into a new business: credit card readers. Now apple has to provide support to these merchants. they now need new department called Merchant Genius.

that is a best way to lose focus on their core business and their mission statement.

Isn't this just called an iPhone or iPad ? these will take payments!

Seriously, the NSA stuff is getting old. The NSA doesn't care about the underwear you just bought at Walmart.

Google, on the other hand...

Does training also includes pretending all other payment methods suddenly take about 50% more time than usual?
