If anyone banks with Natwest then you could use their 'get cash' option which works on the watch app & draw out cash if you do need to do so when out, with that & Apple Pay I could well do without my wallet...
I have used this a few times, very clever. But only works with RBS and NatWest cashpoints, including for instance those in Tesco.

Does anyone else feel like a complete **** when Apple Pay doesn't work on tfl and you hold everyone up. Granted it is a rare occurrence but when it happens I feel like such a fool. No matter what I tried it would not work on the bus today.

I've seen people encounter the same problem with contactless cards and Oyster cards. Just dodgie readers.

Pub had contactless in the end - yay!
Edit - and they are not on the map...
Not everywhere is on the map as it'll only show up once someone has used a MasterCard via contactless card or Apple Pay there. (And even then map is only updated every 30 days) but its still a good guide to look at as it tells you they definitely have it.

Ive had the same happen with paper tickets, dodgy barrier usually.
give it a second try, if it still doesn't work, do the awkward traverse across the barriers and see an attendant or wait for things to calm down.
Tickets, oyster, bank card, Apple Pay, I've had them all fail on me at some point.
If you hold someone up for 10 seconds they would of forgotten all about it 5 minutes later.
It's no big deal.
