I tried Boots and Marks since Lloyds joined up this week. Both faultless and made me do a little squee, much to the amusement of the staff in both shops.

Had a few goes this week now that Halifax has joined the Apple Pay gang.

Firstly a contactless fail when trying to buy £30 of store vouchers for my Mum's birthday at Lakeland (cooking shop). Might have been their system not updated to the £30 ceiling.

Next today at a Wilkos in Cardiff that has Apple Pay. It wouldn't see my or my wife's watch(which uses HSBC). Epic fail. Was for £27.

Then after that tried £19 contactless at a Burger King, worked fine.

Not liking the lottery of it at the mo, but was great when worked.

Yep, I'm incredibly worried about using my watch for anything over £20 unless it's places that have said they have a higher limit from the start (Think Apple Store is £2000 and Pret and a few others are unlimited) I've spent £24 at Pret for a few people, but I've had a failure at Lidl recently and they said they'd upgraded, so who knows!

Hi guys, I have an iPhone 5S (getting new iPhone once its released here). I have an Apple Watch as of yesterday. I immediately updated the OS to v2. Can I not add a card to wallet without owning a 6 or 6s? I don't see an option on the phone anywhere to add a card.

Any help is much appreciated.

Should work without an iPhone 6. The Apple Watch app has its own "Wallet & Apple Pay" section. You should be able to add cards here.

Have you got the latest iOS on your 5s and a passcode set up on your watch?

Tried setting up Apple Pay on my Watch the other day but sadly my account was not supported as I have the old student card :( so NatWest are sending me out a new one that has contactless payment! Yay! :D

Just got apple pay set up on my watch today..can't wait to use it

It's great I use it all the time now and hardly ever use cash now. There has been the odd occasion when it hasn't worked on my watch like today at Costa and I had to use my phone instead but it works well for the most part. It's even better when you get a sales person or a customer waiting in line with a look of surprise or disbelief or someone comments how cool it is. :)

Guessing it works in any contact less place?

Yes it should do although not all places have contact less card terminals or not all of their terminals support it. My local Sainsbury's near my work doesn't at all. The McDonalds near my work does on one or two of their terminals. Most major stores like Co-Op, Boots, M & S, Apple Stores of course, Pret A Manger etc. do. A few have no limits like the Apple stores and I think Pret and M & S. Others have limits of £20 or £30.

New contactless card arrived! Set up was quick and easy. Now I just need to use it :D really wanted to try this feature/ service out since purchasing the watch :)

I opted out of contactless cards with Lloyds. I think that Apple Pay is more secure than a card anybody can use just by touching it to the terminal, so just use Apple Pay now for contactless payments

My NatWest card wasn't available for Apple Pay. When I contacted NatWest to see if my account was eligible they told me that I needed a contactless card. I'm getting a wallet that will make it so I have to remove the card from the wallet for it to be read by the reader to avoid accidental payments :)

If it makes you feel any better and you want to save a bit of money on a new wallet, I think the maximum distance of the contactless tech (Near field communication) is barely over 10cm. As for when it's in use on a card terminal/vending machine, etc: my experience with it on my watch and card is that unless it's pretty much touching the terminal it won't read it :)

I paid for my 6S+ in the Apple store using my watch.

I've not had that happen either but I look forward to the day I can leave them all at home.
Perfect example today, going on a Scott Kelby photowalk later based around a country pub. I'd prefer to go really light (keys, spare battery & card in pocket) but you have no idea if their machine is Contactless until you get there!

Have a look on the map at http://www.mastercard.co.uk/contactless.html

Thanks for letting me know :) I wanted a wallet as I store my Oyster and bank card together usually. It will mean I'll have to remove my Oyster every time but makes me feel less concerned and I needed a new wallet anyway :p

If anyone banks with Natwest then you could use their 'get cash' option which works on the watch app & draw out cash if you do need to do so when out, with that & Apple Pay I could well do without my wallet...
