I have trouble recognizing which terminals accept it and which don't. sort of like that new samsung pay commercial.

If it doesn't have that little reader at the top i guess they aren't compatible but it looks like samsung is on their commercial??

These are obviously easy to spot and use and I do:

These are the ones I see more of and not sure if it takes it:

I'd like to see Apple Pay supported at more of the places I use routinely. Many of the supporting places now are ones that I will use occasionally. Gas stations should really be pushed - I'd love to see a deal where Costco supports it at their pumps. The stations should be jumping on it to stop the rampant skimming.

Subway has support, but the card terminals at both the locations I am at each week are on the staff side of the counter and would be difficult to get my arm to, and the cabling would make it awkward for them to move it closer to me. I'm not sure how to solve that problem.

Panda Express's terminals are from the 80's and you have to swipe the card down the side of the monitor, so no Apple Pay there. Boston Market don't seem to support it.

If you want it to be the go-to option for consumers, you need to hit the kinds of places that people will buy from at least weekly.

In point of fact, Verifone's newer terminals, like the MX-915 and MX-925 have (or can have) NFC hardware built-in. At the nearby RiteAid here, when it gets to actual time to pay, the little NFC symbol shows up in the middle of the screen along with the total and such, and I just hold my Apple Watch up to the screen (part of the trick is to wait for the three blue blinking arrow LEDs to light up on the right-hand edge on the mag-stripe card reader, before trying Apple Pay - the terminal will often recognize NFC earlier, but likely their system isn't expecting it yet). Picture below shows an MX-925, though with entirely different stuff on the screen than I'm used to seeing. Amusingly, RiteAid's software, though equipped for NFC - the latest and greatest tech - isn't set up for signing on the screen (even though the pen is there), so if the amount is over some limit ($50?), they hand me a pen and a paper receipt to sign.

Is it just USA & UK that offer apple pay at present?

Also is the UK £20-£30? (no way of telling without asking) except apple store _no limit_

How much is the limit in the USA is it $50?

Debit card limit in the UK has just been changed to £30.

I'm not aware of a limit in the USA. I've spent over $50 using Apple Pay numerous times. I know I've had totals over $80, though I'm not sure if I've gone over $100 outside of an actual physical Apple Store.

thanks for the reply, its interesting that is a lot higher limit in the USA. I would have thought that apple pay is 100% fraud free, bullet proof, and the banks must love that and therefore pay lower imdemnity insurance.

I'm looking forward to how things pan out.

It certainly causes amazement in the shops I go to. I guess in 6-12 months time in will be common place.

It makes card skimming worthless, as well as malware on the POS terminals ineffective (eg. target hack) but nothing yet is 100% fraud free.. There are other ways that can and have been taken advantage of, sadly..

I've tried to use it in our local McDonald's a coupe of times and our local supermarket. Not once has the bloody thing worked, even though it's set up properly and is apparently activated. Ah well, just have to keep trying.

I guess my 100% was optimistic, are you allowed to say how the system is open to abuse? maybe that is confidential? just so I can be aware & try & take avoiding action.

there was an occasion I was in McDonalds (or 'Mackies' as we call it in Liverpool) drive thu' and when the assistant realised I wanted to pay with apple pay she had to take the terminal back and press something.

Everything worked okay.

Since then I always say 'is contactless payment okay?

Maybe that was the issue, not sure.

Probably worth mentioning it to them I guess. The staff in our local aren't always, ummm, uhhh, on the ball shall we say :D

Someone posted on the UK thread they'd spent £59 in M&S so they are fully apple pay'd up.

Paid for race programme at Silverstone yesterday with the watch in the SRC. Poor lady panicked until I just said put it through as Contactless and it'll be fine.
Funny how she commented best not lose the watch and I explained it's got a passcode on when it comes off my wrist, yet you don't hear many shop assistants saying the same about my Contactless cards.
I just look forward to the day I can leave them locked away at home!

I gave up using Apple Pay on my iPhone a while ago. It worked pretty good at Walgreens and Staples but fails most of the time at McDonalds (although that usually seems to be the employees not knowing what the hell they are doing).

I was at Trader Joes last night and saw the Apple Pay logo on the Card Swiper machine, so I decided to try the Watch. Worked smooth enough but there was a lot of steps - basically everything you normally do with a Debit Card except the actual swiping still had to be done).

Seems to work better on the Watch than on the Phone, so I will probably try it again

What do you mean by a lot of steps. It's just one step on the watch. You double press the button on the watch and ApplePay is ready. Then you just bring the watch near the NFC card reader and bingo the transaction goes though. That's a lot quicker and far more convenient then taking out your wallet and using physical cards or even using your phone. It's also far more secure then using your actual card.

You can. Add the Costa app to your phone then add the Costa card to your wallet. It's then available on your watch.

Waiting in line, I open Wallet on the watch and go to my costa card. Scan the watch's costa barcode on their laser scanner, double tap the side button on the watch then pay with Apple Pay.

That's exactly what I do. It's far more convenient and quicker then what I was doing before ApplePay and before I could add my Costa card to the Wallet app on the phone/watch. With Subway I do the same thing and with Starbucks I just use my reward card on my watch which I top up regularly. The Starbucks card acts as both a reward card and a method of payment. I just use ApplePay before hand on my phone to top it up. I have a Greggs card which can be used as a method of payment by topping it up but I've not used it yet.

Yay!!! Used it today in Boots. Had a little trouble navigating my wrist to the machine but the purchase went through.
Can anyone please tell me where it is recorded on the watch or the iPhone? Lots of info about a Passbook on the net but my iPhone hasn't got Passbook.

What version of iOS do you have on your phone. If it's below 9.0 then you should have Passbook on it. If it's 9.0 then Passbook has been renamed Wallet. In 9.0 in settings it's listed as Wallet And ApplePay.

It's not £30 in all places though. The terminal software needs to be updated so in some places it's still £20. Also some places have had no limit from the beginning when ApplePay was introduced. I can't remember exactly which ones but the Apple stores don't and I believe Pret A Manger doesn't either. There are a few others too.
