... because Apple TV+ just screams family friendly....

Exhibit 1: The Morning Show, See, Servant, Defending Jacob.

The amount of bad language and adult themes on these shows puts to bed the whole “all TV+ shows are family friendly” argument.

Servant was a family show about a family! ;)

No. That's the point of nihilism. The entertainment industry constantly challenges everything that was once considered normal.

Sounds like you’d love Hallmark movies.

Decided to watch Servant this weekend, for the sake of it... what a pleasant surprise of a show, it’s slow paced but loving it so far, already on episode 9 and if the others are similar then damn, definitely not the Disney Channel or a pool full of politically correct content.

I’m very confused. Have you seen the masturbation scene in See? Heard the dialog in the Morning Show? Hell, the last episode of Ted Lasso mentioned a 6 year old girl and a vibrator in the same sentence. What is it about Apple TV+ that makes you think it’s limited to “family-friendly entertainment?”

While I don’t agree that ATV+ is family friendly, I do think it strays from overt gratuitousness that you would find in other platforms (Netflix, HBO). See does have a masturbation scene, but there was no full-frontal nudity shown. See is also very violent, but it dosen’t get close to some of the other TV-MA offerings of late. Language is definitely “through the roof” in TMS and other similar shows. I guess maybe ATV+ is just classy in it’s deviance?

why doesn't apple 'think different' rather than trying to compete with Netflix. it will take forever to build up enough content to make the subscription worthwhile. meanwhile all the services are going downhill because they are fighting for content. I wish they had a service that allowed you to pay apple a fee - like the news service - and cherry pick the best of HBO, Netflix, etc

Something like that would likely involve very pricey content deals with many providers (like HBO, Netflix, etc.).

Yes. This. This is why I love TV+. It's not gross out disgusting just to be provocative. The adult elements are tasteful, like art. That's what sets TV+ above HBO and Netflix for me. Thank you for recognizing this.

who says they are competing with netflix?

who says they are competing with netflix?
Yep. Apple is competing with HBO, not Netflix. Apple is going for highly curated, quality, prestige content. Very similar to what HBO has been doing for decades. Netflix just shoots for the lowest common denominator with its algorithms and tries to have a show for every single demographic.

Beats a mistake? You’re joking right?

Not only has that acquisition paid for itself plus billions in profit—just on sales of Beats headphones alone—but it leapfrogged Apple into competition with Spotify.

Oh and gave them industry insiders like Dre and Iovine, though many like to trash both of those highly accomplished and valuable men.

No, not joking. The joke is how Apple had to spend $3B to compete with Spotify when Google created a similar service by buying Songza for $15MM. But why did Apple need to buy a company at all when they had an indomitable position in digital music and video? Because Tim Cook and Eddy Cue had their heads up their butts and couldn’t see what everyone else saw a long time ago... streaming was the future. They also thought they could buy “cool” but instead bought a fad.

You have no idea how much profit, if any, Beats contributed because Apple never disclosed that information. How many beats headphones do you see in public these days? The success of Airpods is proof that Beats was more of a distraction than anything else. If Steve Jobs returned to Apple today, I’d wager that he’d sell the beats brand in a heartbeat... and that’s what Tim should do.
