Hi,
I got a hot tip from a friend of mine. His sister was at MWNY. She knows a janitor at the JAvits Center where MWNY was held.
This janitor was cleaning a Men's bathroom area one day , during the Expo, he found a curious piece of paper in the waste basket, he thought the drawing on it was unusual,.
The janitior had the piece of paper in his pocket, and that afternoon went for a break in a neraby cafeteria where he ran into my friend'S sister. The janitor asked for her new ph. number , the janitor, looking for a piece of paper to write on, pullled out the piece of paper he had found in the John. The woman, Mary Lou, took the piece of paper to write and noticed a drawing of a rectangular device with a small screen-like area with OSX.p sketched on the screen area and some notes on the side.
She happened to be an avid Mac user who in fact was on
her way to MWNY. So seeing OSX she immediately guessed she might have found something interesting.
Anway, the notes scribbled on th paper read as best I could make out (how I got the note is not important) :

"1) compat. other PD OS.
2) New name for os
3)Phone capable, HS internet.
4)under 400$
5)Dec. ship, w new G5"

Then the most intirguing part , the last note on the bottom.

"To Jg , get report on this, this week. SJ"

Looks like solid proof to me. December ship date for an APPLE PDA.

HAHA that's the most bull**** story I have EVER heard! lol :)
thanks you've made my day!

Although you have to admit, this thread was DOA. Who really expects to see an Apple PDA? I thought so.. :)
What would be really weird, is if Apple does release a PDA... I think that it would shut us all up... :D

Cracking walnuts open should be much easier with a handheld than a laptop. Personally, I can't wait!

Does anyone have the article copied down? The connection was refused when I went to the site. Could be busy.

stevesien, it seems you have the rumor accuracy of a highly paid weather man. :p

Now, it seems so many people either want a PDA or know that it's not going to happen. Would someone tell me why you would need an Apple PDA over a little Palm OS? The iPod should be as close as you can come to a PDA as possible.

apple PDA sighted!

This happened on Thursday.

You see, I do gene therapy on cats (I have a basement). My latest work is concentrated on getting them opposable thumbs and a fully formed frontal lobe. Thumbs first.

Tricky, as I call him, is an 8 month old genetically modified cat w/ said opposable thumbs. The other day, he jumped up on my desk and stole the glasses right off my head! "Wafflemaker!" he said to me (Tricky has limited speech capability, but no real grasp on grammar).

I chased him around the house for awhile -- he's pretty fast on two legs -- then back into my office and under the desk. I dove for him, hit my head on the desk, almost passed out -- and then I saw it.

An Apple PDA. On the floor by my desk. I reached out and touched it. It was real. I picked it up. Beautiful. A 3.5" by 5" screen. Handwriting recognition and the best stylus I've ever used.

I turned it on and it had all my contact and calendar info from 1998 on.

And on the front it said: Newton MessagePad 2000.

YEAH...RIGHT. Nice story though but highly unlikely for a janitor to pull that out off the trash.
what he didnt tell you is that the paper actually floated out of the trash can into his hand. as if it was being pulled by some unseen force or was ALL A BIG FREAKING JOKE

stevesien, can you post the "paper" as an attachment, so all the words and stuff are legible enough to make out?

If the thing is really big, you can email me. But tell me if you can post a pic before I give you the address. (Some of you probably know...)

I wonder if Apple's getting people to circulate PDA rumors just to see what we say... That way, we can immediately dismiss any Apple PDA rumor we see, and then, BAM! Apple releases a PDA...

Dammit Steve!!! You're messing with my mind

Or better yet, how about an MP3 Player/PDA/Cell Phone all-in-one; 1 device that does all 3 in your pocket!!! And it doesn't have to be made by Apple.

Because Palm support for Macs is second rate as well as their product line. With a Mac PDA we could hope for a better product with better integration and support.

iPod input ability is virtually nil. I use my PDA to take notes with, manage to do lists, and both retrieve and store calendar and personal information on the fly. iPod is totally inadequate as a PDA.

ipod is pda

I think that going in to the pda market directly isn´t what apple is about right now, you see that the ipod clearly is capable of doing pda like tasks like calandar and contacts, and all you newton users out there knows that apple really CAN make such a device. I remember dreaming about the fantastic newton when they still used to sell it, but it was way to expensive for me at that time(student). I think they are going another route this time, spearheading the market with a mp3 device, evolving it to the best pda in the market while everybody is waiting for the praised iwalk.

Go apple, im in.

regular size hard drive? uh huh...

and like they have to mention that osx is "still unix based"

whoever wrote this knows next to nothing about computers. a standard 3.5" hard drive in a pda?!?!? and o pocket osx is still unix based. whoever wrote this is the worst kind of liar (a stupid one).

i love pda rumors. i mean its clear people need/want something, but as long as you are going to make stuff up, please at least make it up well enough so we can drool over the possibility. this is just so bad its embarrassing.
I am pretty sure that the regular sized hard drive he mentioned meant a regular 2.5" Laptop drive, not the 1.8" iPod drive.

And stating that a pocket version of OS X was still Unix based would be a response/reflection of Windows CE being totally different under the hood from other versions of Windows.

That said, I think this PDA rumor is as unlikely as any of the others.

What the hell? Who deleted my post??? Was it because it had an image in it? Hey, if you don't want people posting embedded images remove the 'IMG' ability from vBulletin! Or at least erase the post and replace it with a REASON or a NOTIFICATION. Sheesh! Anyway, I reiterate my last post... hopefully if someone wants to delete it they'll at least notify me?!

IMG: Another Thread Down In Flames

This could have been from a moderator, or maybe you posted somewhere else. If it was a moderator, they do not have to notify you. Posts will be deleted W/O warning.

Was the image offensive? If it was, then that could have been why it was deleted.

BTW, I think this thread has gone down the toilet, rather than in flames, but I'm not going to post a damn pic about that! :p
