They may end there, too, if the idea is that the iPad is a “computer” replacement and the iPhone is a mobile device.
Maybe. I’m actually interested if there will be any software changes or changes to the keyboard. Is it possible for them to keep iPad only software changes hidden so no developer could uncover them?

They’ve done it before.

I too would love this to be true, but I’ve heard nothing. How cool would it be if apple slimmed the bezels on the ipad mini making the 7.9” screen 8.5” with face ID and pencil support! That’d be so cool. The perfect travel size ipad. At least update the ipad mini and give it pencil support tho.

And if there is no update, at least drop the asking price. $399 for the dated iPad Mini 4 is just bananas.

My prediction (everyone is entitled to a prediction):

1. Face ID on the new iPad will be a failure- customers will whine about it like we've never heard before.

2. The tiny bezels will not be greeted with enthusiasm. There's a reason why the older iPads had a big bezel. So you could hold the freaking thing.

This isn't looking good.

Ok. I'm done.

If that was the idea, then it certainly doesn't show on iOS 12's changes on multitasking just to make it more iPhone X-y.

I know there is slim chance they'll introduce an updated iPad Mini 4, but has there been any hints at a price drop, or an update to the internals?
No chance, dude.
I am also wishing this would be so; that is, a Mini 5 follow-on.

But no cigar. The claim is that the new phablets replace the 7.9-in Mini Series.
But those that claim that, forget the difference in aspect-ratio.

The Mini-series is 4:3; consistent with paper-size format.
The X-series phablets are 19.5:9, consistent video format.

Regardless of the series being discontinued (albeit, silently -- the Apple way), my Mini 4 remains perfect for trips abroad, due to hand-held size and weight.

I just want it NOW! And I hope the announcement comes today of the event on the 16th and pre-orders on the 19th. Delivery on the 26th.
JUST DO IT!

It’s looking good to me!

I still really want an iPad Mini with Pencil support. Mini is the perfect size to carry around to meetings instead of my notepad, and is the best size for reading eBooks when travelling.

Not new information but what I want to know if the new pencil will have an eraser/secondary function on the other end. That would be very useful but there’s currently no indication of it.

It seems that Tim Cook is in China.....that means no event next week or the other

usb-c is a goog thing. it is a shame that I can charge my Pocofone f1 with Apple-USB-C charges and cables but not my iPhone X !

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but why would Face ID on the iPad be a failure? It seems to be working out just fine on the phone, why would the iPad be different? How often are you holding the iPad by the bezel? There will still be some bezel on these in order to incorporate the Face ID sensors. I think that will be more than enough.

I had issues with my pencil that would refuse to charge if left in a dead state for too long (not sure how long that is, but let's just say a few months). Apple would not replace it under warranty and had to opt for a "refurb" for $39.

The refurb, so far stays at 100% after extended periods of non-use.
That’s the case for any rechargeable battery. If you leave the battery dead to long it will never charge again.

iPad pro with A12X bionic, FaceID, USB C, 6GB RAM, 512GB fast storage, cellular data... this thing is going to cost $1500... but it will be hecking awesome. Maybe I'll finally swap out my MBA for one.
I hope not! Because it’s still a mobile device (not using a full OS/still using mobile components) I don’t think it will be that much but I do expect a price hike of $100-150 over the current price.
