The real surprise will be if the new Apple pencils work with the Xs/xr.

I would say this is unlikely. I think if this was a likely factor, that would have already demonstrated this during the keynote back in September where Apple could have shown the capabilities of the Apple Pencil with the XR/XS. Showing the Apple Pencil now if it was capable with the iPhone XR/XS, would be kind of confusing if they launch separately.

Altogether, I just don’t see Apple allowing Apple Pencil support for the iPhone, it just doesn’t seem like something they would do. I think the Apple Pencil was made for a larger platform like the iPad.

It's unclear if the new Apple Pencil will be compatible with previous iPad Pro models or the sixth-generation iPad.

Perhaps proximity pairing wouldn’t work with previous iPads, but why would it otherwise be incompatible? It seems unlikely they would completely remove the Lightning connector for charging, nor that it wouldn’t support Lightning pairing as it would eliminate so many potential purchases. It’s hard to imagine someone rushing out to replace their 1 or 2 year old iPad just for wireless pencil pairing. And if they do remove Lightning support, then presumably they’ll continue to offer Pencil Series 0 for less? But why make two versions of the same thing while undercutting their profit margin?

It doesn’t seem like there are a lot of cases where connecting to an external monitor (edit- via usbc) would be more useful than airplaying to an Apple TV (either connected to a tv or monitor)—unless Apple is also adding a way to interact with an extended desktop on the iPad in iOS.

(Edit- a cable is cheaper than an Apple TV, so maybe Apple wants people to be able to present from an iPad Pro in more situations—though going from wireless to wired to save customers money doesn’t sound like typical Apple.)

What I’m hoping for is the reverse—to be able to (natively) use the iPad as an external monitor, with pencil support.

Totally agree! doesn't have to be a super upgrade. But faster processor better retina or 4k is all i need! I love the mini and believe its perfect for everyday use. The new Ipad Screen sizes are way too big IMO
4K for such a small screen? I thought your post was reasonable until I read 4K. :D
Can people please stop asking for nonsensical things? You won't be able to see difference on such a small device so whats the point of having it? Just because it looks good on paper? Lets not get carried away by vaporware, shall we?

I wish pencil 2 came with an eraser.

And I really hope it has an off switch. My battery is always dead. It’s fast to recharge, but it really shouldn’t discharge if I don’t use it.
have you tried unpairing it from bluetooth from your device? That might be running the battery down

Please don't call Apple Pencil a stylus. Only people who don't use it would call it that. I expect if you make a poll about it you'll see that vast majority of Apple Pencil users use it almost exclusively as a pencil. I certainly do.

dude, it doesn't have it's own ink. it doesn't have it's own graphite core. so i'm sorry to say but it IS a stylus, regardless of how they name it or how you use it.

I think Tim Cook is headed to China to address the Chinese spy chip scandal. That means the time frame will have to be next week. Could be in the end of October for release in mid November. I guess Appleis loosing it schedule due to circumstances. Just release the iPad Mini 5 now

I would much prefer having TouchID as an alternative or in combination with FaceID. If they release an updated Mac Mini with FaceID only I'm going to be put in a spot of difficulty.

1. Face ID on the new iPad will be a failure- customers will whine about it like we've never heard before.

2. The tiny bezels will not be greeted with enthusiasm. There's a reason why the older iPads had a big bezel. So you could hold the freaking thing.

1. It won't be a failure but there will be whining. Whining doesn't have to mean fail; people don't like change and just like to whine, nasty human nature that I wish – actually whining about, haha – would change.

2. You're holding it wrong. Seriously, I'm all for smaller bezels, just not zero bezel. People will figure it out as usual, after a bunch of whining of course.

3. Folks will whine about USB-C. Guaranteed. I applaud the choice if it's real. Let's move the phones to USB-C as well.

Any chance the USB-C connector is in addition to Lightning? USB-C for video and other accessories but Lightning for power and syncing? I would think not because of potential functional duplication but it would ease the transition just a bit. Not that I'm whining.

Bigger question is how much will this iPad Pro cost?
I wouldn't be surprised if the base model begins at $800 USD and rockets north of $1500.

Ideally there would be a bundle price with Pencil, but when has Apple ever bundled anything.

Here is a freebie Apple. Magnetic clip and induction charging, period. You got rid of the headphone jack, be courageous and get rid of ports, period.

To me, the biggest issue with the iPad isn’t the hardware it’s the software. Until iOS provides trackpad/mouse support, ability to have multiple files open within the same app and ability to set default apps it’s going to continue to be useless for productivity. Who in their right mind would want to use Excel without a mouse for example?

And price hikes for all.

Whenever these are released I’ll be *waiting on sales*, and to hear if these also develop the irresponsive touch issue the 2017 12.9 models did (I sure hope not).

The 2018 iPad is definitely going to my mom whom I hope won’t be too frustrated by it. It doesn’t run Safari well at all and I am finally noticing slow downs in Procreate.

As much as I want to switch, the competition’s tech doesn’t have the same software so :confused::rolleyes:

I too would love this to be true, but I’ve heard nothing. How cool would it be if apple slimmed the bezels on the ipad mini making the 7.9” screen 8.5” with face ID and pencil support! That’d be so cool. The perfect travel size ipad. At least update the ipad mini and give it pencil support tho.
Me three!!!! Cmon iPad mini and iPhone seX

Will be great if the new Apple pencil charges wirelessly thru the new magnetic connector on the ipad. That’d be cool. No more having to awkwardly stick the pencil into the lightning port....and losing the cap!

More of that awesome Jonny Ive form over function design. Just like the Magic Mouse the you cannot charge and use at the same time.
[doublepost=1539103334][/doublepost]Where do you store the pencil with the new iPad? I did not see that anyplace.

The Apple Pencil is great, especially for a first gen product. I wonder what they will add too the new Apple Pencil 2? Looking forward to seeing the new iPad Pro and it’s new accessories including the pencil and a new ASK.
Commonly referred to as a #2 pencil.

As a $199.00 option Apple will introduce the Touch ID pad, connected via USB-c port via 6 inch cable for additional $9.99

Now all the Touch ID people will be happy
