Northlake Mall is total thug life, I avoid that mall hardcore. It used to be such a nice mall. Its sad.

I always go to the South Park Mall store when I need to go, that is always a great location and awesome mall.
The entire Northlake area has deteriorated. The only worthwhile store in the mall was Apple. Almost every other major retailer has left.

SouthPark is still pretty amazing but nowadays there are so many random (and not random) acts of violence. Sad to see this happen

Several other Malls in Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill have closed recently due to high crime rates and shootings in the area. Note that these municipalities have rather liberal Mayor/Police Chief
Ya think there's a connection???
It would be a connection if every town with a liberal Mayor/police Chief was a crime-ridden, but as you know that's not the case. But great try at making it political.

I'd love to know which malls you are referring to? The few that have closed did so because they couldn't keep tenants since shoppers just went to the bigger malls like Crabtree and Southpoint.

Maybe the Geniuses should carry iRevolvers instead of iPhones.
A good genius with a gun? (Sorry - couldn't resist.)

Sad to see crime causing so much havoc. Something is seriously wrong with our society. Perhaps Apple should create a gunshot detector like the crash detector for car accidents. Only half joking here, but obviously such a detector would be prone to false positives during Quentin Tarantino movies.

Good. These people can’t behave and done this to themselves. They don’t deserve these stores in those areas. Expect more of these closures as store theft continues to spiral out of control.
It’s just a tiny percentage of the population ruining it for everyone else.

Why aren't shops spread in the town, so that one can _walk_ from one to another ?
WALK? You mean, using your FEET?? How’s that even possible?

Last time I was in US I was staying at the same hotel as an American colleague. I walked by him while he was waiting for an Uber, and said I was going to walk to the convention, about half a mile down the road. He exclaimed, with a startled look on his face: “WOW, that’s ambitious!!”.

I got there first by the way.

Might wanna recheck your data base. Portland, Seattle, SanFran, Los Angeles, NOLA come to mind. There are others.
Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, NYC, Nashville, Memphis, Atlanta, Philadelphia. The list goes on and on...

One factor is that most large U.S. cities (25 of the 30 largest) have Democrat mayors and it’s large cities that tend to get most of the attention when it comes to violent crime.

It's amazing how things look when you manipulate photos. Here's how it actually looks.

It also just exists as a waypoint between places. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breezewood,_Pennsylvania
Even the zoomed-in pic looks way nicer than an average suburb.

Indeed. Tulsa and Jacksonville have high murder rates and are Republican-run. Colorado Springs has one of the highest rape rates and it is Republican-run.

Sounds more like these issues are more to do with the greater issues of large cities in general than any specific party. Large cities tend to be Democrat-run, but being Republican-run doesn't fix the problems. A lot also has to do with media. As others have pointed out, overall crime rates in the U.S. are down, especially from their peak in the 90s. But the "perception" that crime is getting worse is on the rise. Crime tends to be concentrated to certain areas of large cities as well.

And the only solution I ever hear (from either side) is "more cops, more incarcerations". Well, we're putting people in prison at very high rates--doesn't seem to be fixing these problems.

Maybe if Apple made an iGun and then gave them all to employees, and hell, gave them all to shoppers too. We all know that a good guy with a gun always saves the day.
